3 Hours of Pure Pony Pleasure.
A lot of my early childhood is actually more heavily centered around generation 3, and I had a bunch of little toy sets like an ice cream shop and bumper cars. I even had the pinky pie ds game. Gosh I miss those days 😭
i loved g3 as a kid! yeah it wasn't as like, lore heavy or appealing to adults as g4, but it was cute and cuddly and was great children's entertainment. i had pinkie pie's car and this weird baby rainbow dash. rd is a chewtoy for my dog now and sadly got decapitated lol

G2 was my favourite growing up, Light Heart always has a special place in my heart. I remember there being G2 Bed sheets as well
Littlest pet shop had a completely different look that came out much earlier, which looked much more realistic . They didn’t have huge eyes or huge bobble heads. Looked like little cartoon versions of the real thing. I still have some of mine. Some little hamsters , rabbits and turtles. Haha. One of the hamsters had a ball on the bottom and came with a hamster wheel that you could spin and it would “run” inside of. I think the other hamster had a magnet inside it’s face that came w food, that also had a magnet inside, so it would stick to the animal’s face. OR…. the rabbit set came w a carrot w a magnet that made it stick to the rabbit’s face. Maybe both, I forget. One of the turtles had tiny little wheels on the bottom which made it “walk” moving it’s legs. I forgot what the other turtle did. I was obsessed with them and when they changed the look of the toys I was utterly depressed. Seems like they did REALLY well with the newer looking version of them, but personally… I probably would have kept buying them if they looked like the first version.
I had that turtle set and either my sister or my neighbor had the hamster. You just reminded me of this and how much my sisters and I loved those little toys! Thank you!

my only exposure to MLP has been through watching VHS tapes with my sisters while babysitting them/again years later when babysitting my 1rst brother who loved whatever generation brought the brony into prominence-
so this entire video will be a lore dump unlike any i could ever hope to cram into my memory banks; appreciate the time & effort put into it, keep up the good work !!

As someone who mostly watched G4 mlp when growing up, it’s really fun learning facts about the past mlp generations (side note: I did watch the first mlp movie from g1 and some of g3 and g3.5, however the majority of mlp content I watched was from friendship is magic)
As a pony restorer and collector this video is extremely informative. I'm still only a few years into the g1 world but I really appreciate how many new things I'm still learning! Thank you Shunks!
The My Little Kitty, Puppy and Bunny toys just gave me flashbacks to toys I played with at my grandma's house. It's hurting my head thinking she might have had some but I can't remember fully. I wonder if she still has them now...
i was waiting for this! i was never attached to g1 or g2 and watched a few g3 movies growing up but mostly was interested in g4 which i still like the best. i've been meaning to dive into the other generations too!

I had one of the scented ponies at my Grandpa's house when I was very little. It smelt like strawberries and cream! I was addicted
I also hade one of the g1 scented ponies. I still have her & the rest of my ponies stored away in a box, she still smell strongly of berrypie to this day & she is around 30 years old. Yes I went through my ponies last year so I could give them a better & safer box since I have vague plans of displaying them one day when I have space for it.

1:17:00 or it might be a marketability thing. Pinkie and Rainbow were some of, if not the most popular ponies of G3, and maybe the higher ups at Hasbro wanted to bring them back, because they knew, that those two would sell well.

When I was a kid I had that plushie. But it was the Raindbow Dash one (Can't remember her G1 counterpart name)
I remember cutting her hair to look like a Mohawk. Don't know what happened to it now, though.
G1 Rainbow Dash's name is Firefly.
Lucky is the first boy male-order pony. Clipper is the second. I know this because I was fanatical about MLPs as a little girl and had my father order Lucky for me with my horseshoe points.

It wasn't just the UK, it was most of Europe. And the UK didn't get any of the TV show properly aired until after G1 had ended. Instead there were the comics, and the tales ponies appeared in the comics in 1993 and 1994. I do wonder if they intended to sell ponies in the US with the series then changed their mind, but the school was already on sale in Europe in 1991, so it seems like they were always thinking a bit of the European market.
Most of the G1 toy line didn't get into the TV show anyway. It wasn't as important in G1 as it is in G4.

Omg the parts with g1 & g2 was a blast from the past. I still have my collection of g1 ponies stored away in a box. Sadly most of their accessories are lost to time but I still have some of their clothes & shoes. I also had Megan who came with the Sundance pony back in the early 80s, but Megan went with my Barbie collection to my niece when she was a kid.
I really want the G1 German exclusive pony Nightlight. But she is SO expensive.

interesting that firefly was given pinkies signature poof hair when (as far as i know) original firefly was always released with straight hair and was shown this way consistently in official artwork/animation. i guess this was broken by the comics.

I have a White version of Windy but unfortunately before I got her some kid must have scribbled on her with a pink highlighter so she's not as valuable which is probably why I got her so cheap despite being supposedly rare 😢
There might be a way online to restore her! I'm sure someone in say, maybe one of the custom g1 ponies creators might know how to get highlighter off her, or someone who knows how restore old toys such as her

My mom has a white windy! She’s a little rough but my mom remembers her being white her entire childhood.
I know next to nothing about mlp other than the fan songs and fanart and I'm only here because of the childhood trauma vid and curiosity.
Watching this vid is like being repeatedly being slapped in the face from just how wierd this series is out of my very limited understanding, like the sea ponies, humans, monsters, etc. Or the fact that mlp is separated into generations, a lot like transformers, down to the inclusion of a gen 1.5.
I guess hasbro series are just made to make no sense.
The twinkle-eyes ponies were my favourites, too bad the backstory about them did not become an Episode/ 2 part Special or Mini Movie. Maybe they were scared that kids would try to put jewels or bits of glass in their eyes?

It would also been a great opportunity to give explanation about:
Were the Jewels magical? Did they contain magic reflecting the magic in the body?
Or could they also detect magic elsewhere? And if magic was fading from the world, they would get sick?
That would have given a fun but useful information about them.
Eks- When the Twinkle Ponies are very sick, lose magic or hurt, they lose the sparkle in their eyes.
The comic world in the UK (and sometimes Europe) and the animation in the US were completely separate. The twinkle eye backstory is only a UK/ European concept, it was invented in the comics there and never in the US at all, so couldn't ever be in the TV series. No US kid in G1 ever heard of those concepts till the early 2000s when UK people started putting comic stuff online.

The pegasus shown has the exact kind of wings and leg adornments as ponies I and some other kids used to play with in kindergarten in Hungary.
I remember those kind of wings exactly, you have unlocked a deeply buried memory with that picture.
Plastic horses were all the rage in my kindergarten.
I remember taking the wings (they were one object) out of the saddle, and gluing them onto the back of the pony. I used to dislike clothing on animal toys as a kid, and this way it felt like the wings were more real.
I think I can still remember the material of the saddle on that pony. I used to have so many of these. This particular brand was very popular if my memories are correct.

Oh wow, this made me realize a few things. I already knew I had a couple G1 ponies but it gave me the context of why my sisters likely had them as they lived in Europe before I was born. I also found out I had a Kingsley (My Little Pony Friends) toy which I had no memory of until I saw the image... I think I also had a G3 Scootalo or some other orange pony with purple hair. I remember the particular shimmer she had and the little heart hoof and magnet...

2:00:59 Bro, all of what was said about diabetes was so wrong lol. Type 1 diabetics (insulin- depenend diabetics) don't produce enough (or any) 𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙪𝙡𝙞𝙣, not blood sugar. Insulin helps manage blood sugar, so those who have diabetes may struggle to manage having a normal blood sugar level. If anything, Bonbon would have type 2 diabetes- the type that most people get when they are older because they eat unhealthily (along with other factors). This unhealthy eating leads to the body resisting the insulin it's making.
I know these things because I'm a type 1 diabetic lol. No hate towards the video, but please do more research on these sorts of things.

Oh man. When I was a kid in 1988 my family moved to the States from Israel, and in Israel we didn't have My Little Pony yet so I had never seen it before. (Apparently Israel got it a few years later). I was so enamored by this show but I basically never got to watch it. I think it either aired on a cable channel that we didn't have or it aired after I had to go to school - so I just never watched it. On top of this, apparently kids my age (nine at the time) considered themselves to be too grown up for My Little Pony, so when I talked about wanting to watch this show I was totally ridiculed for acting like a baby. So basically I never got to watch it and I never even got to talk to people about wanting to watch it. My parents did get me a bunch of the toys, I had seven pony dolls. If only things had been as easy then as they are now, where kids can just go online and watch whatever they want! Eventually I grew up and lost interest in this show, and by the time MLP: Friendship is Magic came out I was already in my 30s and had long since lost any interest. I just can't help feeling like this is too bad, I would have loved to watch it as a kid but now I'm just not into it at all. Thank you for taking the time to create this video!
