Good chart. Thankfully we hadn't the horror of Wind Of bloody Change yet! Shocked at Losing My Religion. It's a brilliant song and it only got to number 19. WTF?!
About the peak of my Anglophile listening. Saw Happy Mondays, Ride, REM, Neds Atomic Dustbin, Happy Mondays, Curve from this period. And Chapterhouses' "Pearl" is one of faves.
The Bizarre Inc track which peaked at number 4 was a re-release in October/November 1991. The original release peaked at number 43 in March 1991. An error which the U.K. Official Singles Chart website have not rectified. The re-released fact is mentioned in the Wikipedia entry of Playing With Knives.
The "Peak" numbers, are they just for the month or for the whole year? And great job as always with these lists, even if I would like them more in order by chart position not by release time.
@@dominewimbury2039 Okay, thank you for answer. So if the song re-released a few years after and reached a higher chart position then, that's included too?
An excellent look into nostalgia 👍 Roxette were huge but never hit the summit here. I'm shocked the REM song was not a big hit as it's very well known and probably the most famous of this list. 'Cherry Pie' was a huge hit in the US. Shame Warrant never had the same popularity here. That Queen video is sad to watch as Freddie was seriously ill at that point and looked so gaunt. 'Innuendo' is a good album. That Jane's Addiction video is funny oddly enough. Ironically the mullet has come back. Hazel Dean isn't she the queen of the lower rankers in the UK chart? I'm sure at the age of six I bought that Simpsons song 😂 My joint favourites on this list are 'I'm Going Slightly Mad' by Queen. A forgotten song of theirs but in typical Queen and Freddie style a quirky song. My other joint favourite is another underrated song which is 'Cowboys and Angels' by George Michael. A very sad song about an abusive relationship and the whole jazz feel showed how versatile a vocalist George was. I guess as it was a bit too much or not promoted enough to be a bigger hit. Silver goes to the catchy pop of 'Love and Kisses' by Danni Minogue. Bronze a tie between Eurythmics (I love her wigs in this video!), Soft Cell (yeah I know they were re-releases but great songs), REM, Warrant and Roxette.
Another stellar job Francis. I love hearing obscure tracks that I never knew existed.
Zucchero & Paul Young, the Anglo-Italian team up we never knew we needed.
Thank you!!! It brings me memories!!! Very similar chart in my country at the time I was there!
Thanks to this video, I finally found 'Word of Mouth' by Mike and the Mechanics, a song that I never knew title of.
Fantastic work Francis! 👍

More nineties!!! Love this channel!
Didn't know Jane's addiction only charted at 34, that mad video was all over MTV at the time.
THANK YOU.....

I didn’t realise that Ocean Colour Scene produced music before the Brit pop era of the mid 90s when they started to have big hits.
Same

It's the position they eventually reached in the charts, like it stopped rising at that position, even after a few weeks climbing the charts

Roxette ROX!!!

In fact it is very strange since REM's album that year was one of the best sellers in the UK, it was number 1 and spent 27 weeks in the top 10.
i was born in march 1991
