‘Israel is the provocateur’ in the standoff with Iran: Analysis

- The US is preparing new sanctions against Iran, in coordination with its allies.
Washington is expected to target Tehran's missile and drone programme, in the wake of Iran's strike on Israel.
Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen says every option is on the table to disrupt what she called Iran's 'terrorism financing.'
Israel has been calling for greater sanctions, after Iran fired more than 300 drones and missiles against it on Saturday.
Hassan Ahmadian, a professor of Middle East and North Africa studies at the University of Tehran, says the threat of more sanctions against Iran’s military sector won’t concern authorities because there’s nothing left to sanction.
He also highlighted the hypocrisy of Western diplomats’ scorn after the attack on Israel, noting those same officials had failed to denounce the deadly strike on the Iranian consulate in Syria on April 1.
“The Global South nations are critical of Israel - of what it does in Gaza, of what it did against the Iranian consulate - and there’s no change there even in terms of public opinion, including in the West,” said Ahmadian.
“Israel is the provocateur and it’s trying to drag other countries into a different narrative other than the genocide it’s conducted in Gaza.”

Yeah, I would say that Iran has a right to defend itself. Israel attacked an embassy, which by international law is considered an attack on the country it represents. Iran’s response was completely proportional in that it was merely a theatrical show of force that could be easily defended, leading to no casualties and little structural damage. If Israel doesn’t leave it there, we’ll know that they just want an excuse to attack.

That time was decades ago frankly, better late than never though.
From a historical perspective, the issue is not about who is the provocateur.
The airstrike on the Iranian consulate is not only one of hundreds attacks on Iranian targets in Syria since 2013, and inside Iran by the Mossad.
What is between the Israelis and Iran began once with Israelis against every country in the Middle East who intends to develop their own nuclear weapons program.
Iraq was in 1981 the first country that the Israelis attacked for that reason. Syria was in 2007 attacked for the same reason.
The issue is the protection as the only nuclear power in the Middle East since David Ben-Gurion breached the Atoms For Peace Agreement in 1956, that is some years after both the Israelis and Iran signed the agreement.
Only Iran under the ruling of the Shah remained committed to that agreement until the Iranian Revolution in 1979 broke out. Iran's nuclear energy program was put on a hold and initially banned by Khomeini as he found it un-Islamic.
Khomeini changed his mind during the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s. The Israelis had then their nuclear weapons production running for at least 20 years!
The roots of this all is the United States as they have introduced the nuclear militarization in 1943.
It is at the end of the 1950s that three countries became complicit in the Israeli nuclear weapons program: United States, United Kingdom and France.
Other countries that were indirectly involved are Norway and Argentina. Some also blame South Africa.
It's like arguing with someone who always has to have the last word. The Israelis will attack and attack, thinking it will stop the Iranians from responding.
