Strong, smart, optimistic and aware. She's the way forward.
I just finished reading her wiki page, and was incredibly amazed. For such a young woman, her accomplishments are incredible. Did you know, she literally wrote the textbook, that law students are learning from today. I'm guessing she knows her stuff. If I were a betting man, which I am, I'd say she has the potential to be a star in her party, should she so choose.

Ashok Hegde I'm glad in the perfect world you live in people never become unexpectedly pregnant before they're ready, with good, secure, stable careers, insurance, benefits, family leave, years of savings, and a nice home. Unfortunately, in the real world, life will kick you in the teeth without notice. Jobs are not as secure as they once were, the cost of living keeps going up, while wages have stagnated for millions of people. Republicans and evangelicals seem to be trying their hardest to limit or eliminate access to abortions and even birth control, and cutting programs that help the poor, including struggling young families. These policies almost guarantee more families mired in poverty for decades. You may not agree with it, but even most poor people would like to have children before they're too old to enjoy them.
She is smart, articulate and Clean... don't forget Clean.

Indukuri Raju When you have a chance, watch her questioning various Wall Street, Corporate and Administration officials here on TH-cam. She is a study in “how it should be done”. Rep. Porter comes prepared, she does not waste ANY of her time pontificating for the cameras; instead she zeros in on the subject at hand and either gets the answers needed, or shows that the individual being questioned is completely ignorant of what it is they are supposed to be doing, or the harm they are doing to our country! You’ll be impressed!

@Ashok Hegde Well, you do make a good point there, about an entry level job and raising a family. My folks waited to have kids until they could afford to do so. Even so, minus the child, the fact is that entry level jobs, whether at banks, or elsewhere, are so low paying that it's impossible to live on one's own. When I was first on my own, at 19, I was able to afford an apartment and utilities and still have some cash left over and I had crappy jobs. Okay, this was back in the 1970s, but wages have remained basically static since then, while everything else (including CEO pay) has skyrocketed over the last 40 years, so the point is that even a bank teller should be able to live on their own, as I was able to. Wages need to go up and affordable housing needs to be built across this country.
@Ashok Hegde It's hard for me to consider that living on one's own is a luxury, as I was able to. I was a bike messenger, had a one room studio and still had money left over to go out to buy beer on weekends. No help from my parents, either. I didn't know anyone that had to live with their parents, either. However, as I said, I come from a different era. I do know that in most parts of the world, most single people don't live on their own, in fact, most families don't, either. At any rate, let's hope that wages, including entry levels ones, rise to the point that young people, whether they are college graduates, or coming out of trade schools, can afford to live, period.
Recently, as you may be aware, The Business Roundtable, a group of nearly 200 CEOs of major US corporations, stated that "shareholder value is no longer their main objective." They went on to mention "investing in employees, delivering value to customers, dealing ethically with suppliers and supporting their local communities", among other goals, are now part of the game plan for corporate responsibility. Imagine that! Jaime Dimon, the CEO of JP Morgan Chase that Rep. Porter was grilling, is one of those CEOs of that group. Perhaps her encounter with him and others was part of what got them to thinking that corporate responsibility is about more than just to the shareholder, maximizing profits and their own compensation packages.

I will tell him that for encouragement. That same prof pointe out a NCAA violation. Long story short one of the associate athletic directors had to leave. Student athletes are better off when you care both about their athletic and academic success. I have worked with some that take both aspects seriously. And that is education.

But her lady Vols had other careers waiting for them after basketball and most importantly if not when, injuries kept them from going further in athletic pursuits.

I’m such a fan of Rep. Porter. I wish I could vote for her! Watching her “grill” these Wall Street CEOs, other corporate bigwigs and Administration officials is truly a pleasure. Look at the statistics for people who work in slaughterhouses -- they become increasingly violent towards others (esp towards family, HUGE hike in domestic violence in areas where there are slaughterhouses); very high levels of depression, extending to suicide; a lot of workplace accidents, many of which are extremely dangerous (hello, youre working in a place where living beings are killed, so ofc).

American politics are so centered on the right that even the slighest wif of an idea moderately to the left freaks them out.
@wolfman02 yeah that's something that drives me nuts in American politics. Like they'll call some normal common sense policy "Extreme far leftist government overreach"; yet when some far right nutjob, bordering on fascism, gets into politics, they all expect you to listen and take their ideas seriously.
They'll just have to get over it and realize we are worth a decent wage, we deserve good healthcare, good education, good daycare. It makes me wonder why people think their not worth that, but on the other hand give, and give to the wealthiest in our country as well as corporations. If you want corporations to have a stakeholder culture - you need to do two things and make these things corporation law. 1. At least 40% of a corporation board/executive board has to be men or women. When a board is 40% - 50% women - those boards make decisions that are focussed on stakeholder more. 2. 50% of the board must be people that stock holders voted in and the other 50% have to be employees that the employees voted to the board. If you do these two things then you will have a corporate culture that makes decisions for the stakeholders (which includes employees and stock holders).
Corporations are psychotic entities by law- must put profit above all. Change the laws.

This interview with Katie Porter was the opening of one of Bill’s best shows ever ever. He topped it off with a monologue directed to Trump that was both brilliant and hysterical.

@@peace2all353 Of course the reality of global relations and respecting sovereign nations must be protected. However, American comedians have a long tradition under freedom of speech, of ridiculing our politicians and engage in satire on any subject. Maher's joke exposes the absurdity of the behavior of that guy in the White House, bringing the subject to countless people who don't normally watch a lot of international news. It provokes critical thinking where it would otherwise be ignored. The sad thing about this is that most Americans know virtually nothing about other countries or our relationships with them and get most of their news from the comedy shows.
Putting a monetary value on forests to save them is one way to improve their likelihood of surviving. Sovereignty though would stay with the state as it does with any property purchase.

I voted for George McGovern. It was my first presidential election. He should have won and we would have avoided Nixon's crooked presidency and the Vietnam war would have ended much much sooner.
Not really, the war technically ended almost immediately in Nixon's second term in 1973. At least when it came to US involvement

I think the major one was something about Bill's mother had a hard time raising him. It was all clearly said in jest but Bill didn't seem to be in on it. He got a bit snippy afterwards, too.
Sorry I can't remember specifics, but I hope that helps. If you search for Porter's last appearance on the show at the table, you should be able to see the awkwardness.

The Pretty Hate Machine that is corporate media today is responsible for fomenting division and social violence as well has eroding our election process by colluding with favored candidates.
Add to that the Wall St government takeover, Superdelegates, Citizens United, touch screen voting machines and the TPP proposal for an international tribunal of corporations who's (kangaroo court) decisions would supersede all national, state and local laws, it appears that a Great Wall has been built to shut out democracy and the political process.

He didn't say either of those things, he said that some analysts say Warren would lose 40 states, and he ASKED if Klobuchar was more electable. Criticize Bill all you want, but at least be honest and criticize what he said rather than making things up.
