Never even thought about putting a craw on a buzz bait, clearly I’ve been doing it wrong. Great tips and video btw, stumbled upon your channel with your recent Spook fishing tips and quality content all around.
I been watching you for years man, always killer content. But I think it's time you get a hat cam. I know you got someone in the boat with you now, but they don't know where you're looking - would really help us all see what you're seeing to learn and enjoy. I even keep going back and watching your old stuff bro, keep it up.
Love the video, Brother! I have used a buzzbait a few times over the years and had some success. I have watched a few videos and have seen where some will throw the bait with no skirt with only a soft plastic. I have also seen where some will not throw any style WITHOUT a trailer hook. What's your opinion on theses styles? Thanks for all you do and keep it up!
I really think it just depends on the situation. Most of the time anymore I like to throw either a toad or a craw style plastic on my buzzbait without a trailer hook, and most of the time I have a good hook up ratio. If fish are missing the lure, I will usually change the color or style of my plastic before I use a trailer hook. This might sound funny but most of the time when I use a trailer hook on a spinnerbait or buzzbait, the fish gets hooked on that trailer hook. Some people might think that you would have NOT caught that fish without a trailer hook, but I really feel as if the trailer hook gets in the way of the fish getting hooked on the main hook. Now thats just my opinion, but I have heard Brian Thrift say something very similar when he talks about buzzbaits. So if you can't trust me, you can definitely trust him lol
I got a question dude. Bunch of old timers tell me to throw it in the morning but I’ve caught fish in the middle of the day too. Is it a old day bait or what?
Why can’t I keep my buzzbait from falling to the side when I retrieve. (Short of tuning it which I feel like I do) And for that matter, it’s like even if I throw on a lightweight trailer, the thing still stinks way too fast, and I can’t get it up and out of the water and buzzing until it’s already half way back to me...
Thats interesting Dawsonian, I am curious to know what the gear ratio of your reel is? Reel fast at the start of your cast, you might want to have a faster gear ratio reel, anything above a 7.1:1, and keep your rod tip up until the bait starts chugging along the surface.
BassFishingHQ hey thanks for the reply. So that was my initial thought, too. But I can’t chalk it up to that bc I’ve thrown it on a few different setups to specifically test the speed theory out. Initially I was throwing it [buzzbait] on a standard 6.4:1. Then I threw it with my Lews 7.5:1; but no joy. Though I’ll admit was the fatter reel I was able to get it up a little earlier into my retrieve. I really don’t know, other than perhaps poor quality lure. I’ve tried different trailers, from toads (heavier) to creatures (lighter), too nothing at all, but idk. Lol it’s really embarrassing to admit being that I fish at least 15-20hrs/week, and have for years. But hey, what ride can I do, right? Appreciate your channel and all you do for the fishing !
@@thedawsonian9094 I've only ever had that happen to me with those cheap walmart buzzbaits. Maybe try looking for a 3 blade buzz they seem to start pretty quickly
@@joehrdina1393 I used to run a palomar, but now I pretty much tie a uni-knot exclusively. I think my problem was most like just bent blades/not tuning them correctly. Or maybe it was my pole position on the retrieve- rather than a retrieving straight up/down like retrieving a spinner bait, I have a tendency to point my rod to the 2 or 3 o’clock position (off to the right).
A lot of people have not stopped throwing it, but I just feel like you don't hear about the buzzbait as much as you used to, especially with the invention of other topwaters like Frogs and Whopper Ploppers..

I liked this video when you admitted that you did what you said not to do! Great video as always!

I have boxes of buzzers and spinnerbaits! They are fantastic in the Spring and Fall! But anytime they will produce!
Lot of good info enjoyed the video
Thanks again!
Great tips, enjoyed the vid 😁👍
Thank you I appreciate you watching
If anything I throw buzzbaits too much. I make sure they will not hit it before I throw anything else! My favorite bite!!
I still use it, catch a LOT of bigger Northern Pike on it.
When does 1/4 outfishes a 1/2 do you think? Good layout of information that we can relate 2!$$$
Nice video, what is the name of the trailer you use on the black one ?
That is a 4” Berkley Chigger Craw
@@BassFishingHQ thanks, the one that I was using the claws interfere with the hook. thanks again.
great video man. Came here after I lost a few blowups last night on buzz baits lol.

When you use 40lb braid on a buzzbait do you use a leader or just straight braid
All braid

What knot do you tie? Could be part of the problem.

I didn't. Black with white baby
Never caught one on a buzz bait, but still trying...
Caught my first the other day, but it doesn't really count because it took it before I even began retrieving.
Good stuff buddy! Subbed, throw one back our way if ya can! Keep it up!! Tight lines !
Thanks man!!
When did people STOP throwing a buzzbait?

Choke...
Choking it!!
$16 for a buzzbait. Academy can buy it, I won’t.
