    FYI. Bought an Ioniq 5 a year ago from Platinum Hyundai in Tracy CA. We did pay $3K over sticker at a time when Bay Area dealers were charging $5K to $10K over. But we also got a much higher trade in on our 10 year old car than expected. So that was a wash. Most importantly, the transaction was completed in a total of 12 text messages after which the dealer drove the car 100 miles to our home and picked up our old car. They hooked me up with blue link and EA and everything Just Worked. Definitely a much simpler buying process than any other car I’ve bought before and also simpler than the stories shared by my many friends who have purchased Teslas over the years. And it supports Apple CarPlay.

    I like that you sit a bit higher. Getting in and out of low cars is not fun for many. BTW I love that you went in to the motor/clutch information. I would want the aero wheels, the others are just way to much of a compromise IMO. I wish the 20"s were a stand alone option.

    • @lanceareadbhar
      @lanceareadbhar ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I like that you sit higher too, but height can be an issue and everyone has there own preference. In theory, the 18 inch wheels can be put on the higher trims, but who knows how well it would drive since it was likely calibrated for the 20 inch wheels.

    • @lanceareadbhar
      @lanceareadbhar ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ioniq 5 makes sense if you need the extra space or don't care about the difference in range. Personally, I would say that if you prefer the top trims of cars, get the Ioniq 5, but if you normally get the base trims with the bigger battery get the Ioniq 6 as it has more features in the base trim and the longest range which is always nice to have even if you don't think you'll need it.

    • @CarsMadeSimple
      @CarsMadeSimple ปีที่แล้ว +4

      SE to SE, the Ioniq 6 is the better value. Limited to Limited the Ioniq 5 might be a slightly better value. SEL to SEL, it's your pick as they are fairly even.

    Hello Kyle, thanks for an other informatively video. I have an original Ioniq electric with the 38 KW battery pack which I love because it is so efficient and as long as I can find a charger 170 miles of range is all I need. I do which the DC charge speed was faster. If sold in the US I'm really interested in the rwd se Ioniq 6 with the smaller battery pack. Do you know if the small battery packs in the Ioniq line have the same charging curve as the large one or does it charge a little a lit faster.

  • @kevtheobald
    @kevtheobald ปีที่แล้ว +14

    It has been interesting to see people react to the styling. I think the Hyundai Group did a good job making something unique. Each of the vehicles built on this EV platform get enough difference in styling that it makes it seem like something for a certain buyer. Unlike GM, which basically put a new badge on the same thing, this line of EVs really seems to target different buyers. I do think the Genesis version was not high end enough overall, the EV6, EV6 GT, Ionic 5, and this Ionic 6, all seem to have different buyers in mind. I know, the EV6 and EV6 GT are mostly the same, but the reviews I have seen so far say the EV6 GT really does fit the high performance driver profile. Too bad the range takes such a major hit using that performance.
    Based on how polarizing the styling seems to be, this might be the Hyundai Group EV with the most discounts once the EV market gets more flooded.

    • @lemongavine

      The range hit on the EV6 GT is mostly because of the wheels and tires.

I walked in to take the delivery, signed papers and the dealer ecplained me the car and functions and drove away paying MSRP plus doc fees. I have ordered MYLR in JAN 2023 and so far it is the worst experience ever. No support or customerservice, no answers from anyone from Tesla, No updated info when or where my car is, or will be built, no customer relationship. At least at ICE dealers or other non Tesla dealers, you can talk to a person and have the hassle only for the day u decide to purchase the car with getting all your answers.

    I’m choosing to go for the Ioniq 6 here in the UK. With the colder weather I think it’s important that the 6 comes with a heat pump whereas the 5 doesn’t. Why? I’ve no idea. It’s a £1000 option to have one on the 5. The six is also much better equipped model for model. Having lived for three years without a heat pump in my current car, I know the hit my range takes as the weather cools here.
    I also hate the white screen surround in the 5. I find it distracting in bright light and it looks like an early iPad. The Nav in the UK gives you the option to ignore slow chargers. I’m sure an update will fix that in the US too.

    Kyle, as far as leasing for the $7500 mark down, one can lease the vehicle and then turn around and purchase the vehicle as new so long as it is purchased within 60 days of when the lease was started. Hyundai leases doe not usually have prepayment penalty to buy out the lease. I believe I am correct on these statements. I know I took advantage of the loop hole with a lease.

    I did not know about the cludge and the permanent magnet engine in front. I ordered the car two weeks ago and this is something that I am torn about. Yes, passively spinning up a deactivated synchronous motor without a cludge takes more energy, so it is a energy saver, however the cludge is something that can break... well, I will see what happens over the years. BTW: Route planning here in Germany is quite good, it routes you to the HV chargers (charging networks seem to be better in Eurpope), it preheats the battery automatically, and with Hyundai you even get a really good deal for the kWh at the charger IMHO.

    Range anxiety comes from the lack of chargers around at places. Charging anxiety imo is more about the amount of time spent while charging. This car charges fast so it's more of a range thing to me unless you get the base wheels.

    • @arthurchoi8080
      @arthurchoi8080 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Both range and charging anxiety are closely related to both lack of chargers and charging time spent. If electric cars had really fast charging time, range anxiety is no longer an issue. Also, the fact that there are not many charging stations as gas station gives you range and charging anxiety.
      Even if charging speed is as fast as putting gas, if there are not enough charging stations, you will have charging anxiety.
      Imagine you go on a road trip and have to schedule where to put gas if each gas station is 200miles away.

    Because the base price in Canada is going to be 54999 it makes the line up to anything that costs under 65k qualify for up to 10k off in federal and provincial EV rebates. 10k off makes it almost reasonably priced for what you get.
    Canada's rebate is a purchase price after sales tax rebate, and not a tax credit, so anyone gets the full amount, not just rich people.

      If all goes as planned by 2024 the tax credit will be converted to a point of sale discount. Will see how that rolls out in 8 months.

    I test drove the Ioniq 6 RWD SELThe car so like driving a cloud. Hopefully in 2 years I'll get one and maybe some upgrades = ) I had a Mach-E Cal Route 1 but I sold it for more what I paid for and dont ask me why I went out and got a Bronco.... I love it but after driving an EV I kind of regret going back to ICE. The feel of an EV is so smooth and just dives better. Just need to pay a little more off this Bronco and save for a down payment.

    I am very heavily considering buying an ionic 6 for my wife. The looks are polarizing but we like them. She wants a nice simple daily, I want something to hypermile on road trips, seems like we could both get what we want.

    Hmm, brake/steering by wire worries me a little, as since its electrical there is a chance that maybe it malfunctions, leaving you without steering or braking inputs vs the traditional mechanical attachments to it.
    Any comments?

    There are so many driving modes when considering regen level, traction control, acceleration, etc. Can you set all modes in user profile so I don’t have to press 4 buttons every time I get into car? This is real competition to model 3 if speed isn’t important.

      @@tomm5936 That's excellent. I wish more EVs did it that way, but putting modes in your profile is better. I didn't like resetting all drive modes every time getting in a Lucid GT. You shouldn't have to do that on a $155K EV. I have the same problem with EQS, but hopefully they can issue an OTA update to improve it.

    I'm not sure about the need for I-5 production being maxed I did my usual Sunday morning lot checks and my local dealer had 6 brand new I-5s and one used. I think the tax credit thing is really hurting sales. I know, it is a small sample size but I have seen other posts reporting similar pictures across the country.

    Still think the Ioniq 5 is a better deal, more room inside and useful hatch. Still not ready to call it a SUV , tall hatchback maybe.
    The 6 looks good, perfect for some people who want a sedans.
    Still missing low cost EV, the Kona is still to expensive for many.
    Sad to see subcompact cars going away this year, no more Chevrolet Spark and Mitsubishi Mirage. Low cost transportation is going away forcing people to buy SUVs

    really really like this EV...hits all my bells...high quality fit and finish...smooth..quite...great technology....and the looks!...so cool and very different...I have one coming next week with no mark up...I own a Tesla S P90D...and selling it for this....love the charging network with Tesla and software...one of the negative things about Tesla is if you have a minor accident your car is in the body shop for 3-4 weeks because of the Tesla parts availability.....drove a Tesla model 3 for 3 1/2 weeks while my S was in the shop....way too rough ride for me and too bland interior.....can't wait till next week to get my Ioniq 6!

      Congrats on your upcoming Ionic 6! Hyundai/Genesis are making some really high quality vehicles these days. I've watched some FSD videos recently on youtube with users in a Model 3 and was shocked how bad the car sounded and looked over rough roads. It literally banged over pot holes like there was no shocks at all. The youtuber was driving on terrible Michigan roads.
      I've got my eye on the F-150 lightning. I've heard it rides like an old cadillac, which is my type of comfort driving.
