I disagree with the individual that wrote that message. First of all, I am not building for caretakers but my self. I’m building because when I go home, I want to have a beautiful place to live and not paying hotel bills that will never be mine. It’s up to you if you don’t want to build, but stop discouraging Africans from developing their countries.

You are right, Liberian will say I am building my dream house. When you are over 50 years, you build a retirement house not a dream house. Thanks for the info, I will try to locate you guys when I get to Liberia. As always be safe and bless.🙏🏽❤️

What is the development some of you are talking about? The development some of you are doing is building these big mansions and your city is not developed. This brother is only trying to give you some insight and he is so right about that. Thanks brother.

Lately, this discussion has been a hot topic on most social media platforms. All I can say is that whoever is saying this should pay a visit to Africa. They will never have such a mindset after seeing businesses owned by diasporas who are working the same kind of jobs as him or her. It is a proud thing to invest in your country after living abroad for 40 to 50 plus years. Whenever I think about this topic, I keep wondering why African Americans are moving to Ghana if it is a bad idea to build in Africa. I think people who are lazy and don't have the means to build anything are the ones brainwashing the rest of us. When Ghanaians, Nigerians, or other Africans travel abroad, they build mansions and commercial properties to contribute to their country's development and for their own source of wealth since riches come through multiple means. Another issue is that whenever you fall victim to a crime and have to be deported, where will you go? No matter how people understand this discussion, I will advise that we should at least build in Africa for tomorrow whether the caretaker will enjoy it or not.

I think what the writer is saying is, don’t suffer yourself or rather slave yourself abroad just to build a house back home but rather enjoy it where you are at because tomorrow is not promised. Unless you have a great financial situation, don’t slave yourself working 16+ hours per day. This is taking toll on your health. In most cases you won’t enjoy the fruits of your labor. In most cases, if you are doing it for investment purposes, go ahead. But it’s not worth your house being empty while you are a workaholic

To that writer, because you didn’t do it, you don’t have to be jealous of others that are developing their countries.

The author (of the message not the video) is only trying to justify his/her failure to invest back home.

This is a true example of the phase “Misery love Company.”
This man don’t have the resources to build anything so he’s discouraging people to be like him so he doesn’t feel guilty and incompetent.

Twenty six years ago while young ,unmarried ,no kids, sharing a apartment with 2 friends and doing my masters while working in the US, I built a simple three bedroom bungalow in Nigeria with a very strong foundation in hope of adding a second floor in the future, which I never did ! . Once I married and had kids I focused on life in America . Bought a nice house and paid off the mortgage and invested in my job 401k and enjoyed our life. That Nigerian house has been enjoyed mainly by the caretaker! If I was to do it again I would have bought the land , built a wall of course and maybe a boys quarter . Due to my wife and I investing in our 401k at work we have hit $800,000 dollars and growing . If one has money and land back home, you can build a house in 7 months , do not sacrifice your life building a house , unless you are planning to go back home soon !! MY OPINION!!

      Thanks for your comment
It makes sense what you’re saying
Just do it the right way is what I’m getting from your write up
Only thing I’ll say is a lot of folks living in the diaspora are making money from short term rental targeting people from abroad or leasing . That way when u do decide to visit u have something there but also have the little money it will genera be in your Nigeria account
But yes if you’re not planning on moving or managing a rental or just bring involved in such at all then just focus and build where you’re at like you’re doing

@@liberia-totheworld9628 Yes if you are building income generating property or planning to return and live after building that makes sense . But building a retirement home which I did , decades before you are planning to retire and return home I would not recommend . Luckily I did it before I had responsibilities and did not sacrifice our quality of life or our investment strategy in the US! My older cousin retired at 62 , owning one rental property , plus his primary residence in the US , went back to Nigeria and personally supervised the building of his retirement home from start to finish and it took 7 months !!

Even if you don’t want to live in Liberia, you can rent that property, wealthy white people built homes and don’t live in and paid property taxes in the USA all the time. You can stay in America and don’t build, but don’t discourage others.. I’m building my home for my family in Liberia I may or may not move back home but at least I’ve a luxurious house in Liberia.
