GTC4 Lusso will be the most practical but has the infamous problems with the front gearbox (unless you go for the V8 Lusso T with RWD). I would suggest the Portofino or even a California T. It has the convertible roof which instantly makes it more fun and a much bigger contrast to your 360 CS. It will give you a completely different character of Ferrari, a genuine two-car Ferrari garage to start off with.
The standard Portofino is the only car I’d be interested in getting out of my Alpine A110 for. Ideally in Tour de France blue, crema interior, Daytona seats and yellow calipers. And I prefer the wheels over the ones on the M. Sam… consider the Portofino M as a great all-rounder. Convertible, 2+2, with more sensible running costs, less complexity than an 812’s V12 and it’s smaller, making it much more useable. Absolutely love Portofinos! 🇮🇹 Good luck with your search.
The original Portofino was the first Ferrari I drove and I loved it - and so did my two sons (9 and 11 years old then) in the backseats. Brilliant for family drives! I hope you find a great 2nd Ferrari😊
Sam, it took me 4 years to find my dream car. I loved the journey. I hope you also enjoy because you do work hard and deserve to get that car that feels "just right"
You know what you need? A V12. Big, front-engined V12 grand tourer, 4-seater notwithstanding. If you're fine with no rear seat? 599 GTB. Amazing look (especially in black, grey, blue or dark red), Enzo-derived V12, and can be had for less than GBP120k these days. If you need 4 seats I think FF would be a better bet but the PTU problems can sting. Also if you want another V8 don't overlook the original California. Lovely car, that is.
I’ve been watching your vids for about 8 years but I’ve never noticed before your hand movements being so extravagant on downshifts. Not a bad or good thing, just unusual IMO. Keep up the great content.
Love that dealership. Years ago me and a couple mates got to just go look around and drool (we were like 16/17) cos my friends dad bought a Bentley from them. Andrew was super nice and welcoming and took the time to show us around a few of the special cars including a 911 sport classic owned by harry styles.
The Roma easily checks all of your boxes, but the V12 Lusso is the best choice in my opinion. Very unique car, blend of modern comforts and a front engine V12 platform… The backseat really cuts down your options; I would make sure the car seat actually fits-many cars that I’ve tried don’t support a car seat at the proper angle for our 1-year old. Once they’re tall enough to forego the car seat, they probably don’t have enough room in the backseat.. I’d love to see you get one of the more traditional front engine V12 GT cars. Congrats either way sir!
Wow, if ever there was a first-world problem... I've watched your videos for years now and you fully deserve the moves you've made upwards and it shows in the quality and infectious nature of your communication. The bottom line - you know that if that's your passion and you can get it past HQ, fair play to you mate, get the one that floats ya boat..!! About 30 years ago, when I was still living in the UK (now in China), I had the best job ever: driving Ferraris from the service centre in Thorpe to the showroom in Egham so that the owners could pick them up or sometimes to drop them off to clients. I did it in my break before having to get what my parents considered a "real job" and have driven some of what are now the most expensive classics in the world including my personal favourite 250 GT SWB (which, when the kids' school fees are done and off the payroll, I will finally get my hands on). I've not driven all of the latest models but don't get the Roma (it's a very good car, but after a 360CS (epic car) you'll be over it in less than 6 months and your wife will nick it). Don't forget the Lusso... I did a trip with 3 good mates in a Lusso to go skiing in Switzerland (where my son is at Uni). I was not a particular fan before but was shocked by how comfortable it was in the back (I'm not a small bloke). It eats miles on the motorway and can really pick it up in the bends... not bad on snow too but that was an unintentional wrong turn... If you have a Lusso you can get rid of the Panamera and from the reaction of the lads at my son's Uni when we went to pick him up and he got in to drive it, it's pretty bloody cool...
When my daughter was little she was obsessed with cars and going fast. She loved the tiny backseat in my 911. It was plenty of room for her, probably until she was 11 or so. PS - I think you'd enjoy any 911 Cabriolet so much more. Vastly more reliable and usable. But obviously not exotic like a Ferrari
Portofino M is the car for you Sam. 4 seats, maybe a service pack on its last legs and not so expensive you get overwhelmed by it. And open air motoring🤩❤️👌🏻
My heart says 812, my wallet says Portofino, and my "if you know, you know" side says V12 Lusso. I have a ND Miata and N55 M2 so I've always valued the importance of the car to me and don't chase the numbers or what is the halo car. Dig into the V12 Lusso a little bit more and I think you'll love it.
Sam’s passion here is so fun to watch and totally relatable. I mean, he’s showing some of us what we might be able to do ourselves. These Ferrari models are approachable to anyone who can afford a new 911CS for example. Thanks Sam for keeping it real.
If you can, go for the 812 SF. Sell the Panamera. Wait a year get one and put a Novitec exhaust on it. I remember the video from 2 years ago when you were in the Netherlands and drove that red GTS. You absolutely adored it.
I was lucky enough to be allowed to drive the (now sadly sold) 812 Superfast of my granddad. It was 3 years ago, he bought it, I was 22 years old and he actually let me drive it. I’ve driven a lot of cars, including an F-Type SVR, a DB11, a V8 Vantage F1 Edition, multiple BMW Ms, Alpine A110s, and some others. I myself own a Mini cooper S. The 812 was BY FAR the most exhilarating and exiting driving experience EVER! No car had made me forget the „missing“ (by that, I mean, BAD) infotainment and sound system as much as this 812 did. To add the cherry on top it was in a historic color with grey and espresso leather inside. Since I drove that car, sadly I couldn’t help but compare every other car to it, I drove afterwards, and everytime I was thinking, it’s good, but will never be as good as the 812… The fact, you could daily it and also don’t have to go speeds that will move you through time, makes this car an absolute dream to enjoy! You have to get what you want, no question, but if you have the chance to get an 812, I would not ask myself for a second which one I would be getting…
Sam, I've been watching your channel for 10 years, POV videos and the 4C. During that time I've seen you grow, you've done amazing. You and I are in the same age range, watching your love of Ferrari has also sparked a love for them in myself. Thanks for being a consistent go-to for entertainment and information.
The portofino m is amazing. I almost ordered one new and just missed the cut-off in 2023. I bought a used F12 instead. An F12 or 812 is the most dailyable car you can buy. I was so surprised.
There is a black Portifino around my neighborhood that I see every other day and it is a beautiful car, so underrated. I would take Portifino M over Roma and Lusso
Forget what others say, the front engined Ferraris have always been more interesting to me. My pick is the GTC4 Lusso with a V12 or a Roma. I look forward to more videos documenting your search!
Ferrari Roma depreciates pretty hard and would make a good car to do bigger miles in, and you could pick up something pretty new for your budget (more in 12 months time with more depreciation!). Also very different from your 360CS.
IMO, the 812 is one of the most beatiful cars both in looks and sound that i have ever seen. Definately worth buying one of those - or at least short list it!
My list: 1. GTC4Lusso, Roma and Portofino M as a "family" car. As a Ferrari, pure Ferrari: Portofino M. GTC4Lusso is an extraodrinary car and a very special Ferrari if it is v12 and the luggage included. Roma is the most versatile of the three.
Well i get your love for ferrari, but i would go for an aston martin. Rapide from 2017 might be right up your ally. I would suggest to at least check one out during your hunt.
I love it when sam is soo nerdy about ferrari's and a new ferrari on rge channel is always a treat secondly sam if possible as you said in the video going for the 812 will be a blast but if not V12 lusso isn't any less and also it ticks all the thw boxes
As someone who’s thinking of getting a Cali T or Porty. You should def get the Porty M. Currently in a 911 Turbo and want something I can fit my 2 kids in. As they love it. And I love taking them for drives. So any 2 seater is out. The Lusso is great, but I kinda feel like it’s a weird car. I’d daily it, but then it doesn’t feel as special. If I didn’t have little kids I’d want an 812.
The portofino was the first Ferrari i drove. I absolutely loved it… think from memory was ok on finance as well. 20K in 1500 a month. This was 4/5 years ago
I have a Challenge Stradale like yourself and a Roma for the more daily Ferrari where I can take my 2 sons at the back. I get used to the haptic steering after 5 days. They don’t get accidentally pressed as you drive as you need to wake them up before they are active. The sound of the Roma is actually quite nice. Its very comfortable in comfort mode. I can drive 5 hours in it without experiencing any back pain (I am 43 years old). In sports and race mode, it is sporty enough for the twisties. I have a 992 GT3 Cup for track days. I would always take the Roma to drive to the track which is 5 hours away from home.
Sam! I love this series! Keep showing us your shopping and thought progression. My vote is for the Lusso! V12 plus practically! Can't wait to see what happens.
I've driven a couple of cool/raw cars in the past, specifically a 991 GT3 RS and a CLK63 BS, and they were fun, a lot of fun. But I recently I drove an 812 SF, and it was effing incredible! :D It's the most powerful car I've driven, and I was thoroughly impressed.
The heart says Superfast. The head says V12 Lusso. With a CS in the garage I'd looking only for V12. My favourite modern berlinetta is the 599. The GTO would be the first thing I'd buy with super-lottery money!
Early Ferrari Californias are so underrated. I have a friend who has a Turo business that rents a red over tan one and wow is it a blast to drive. Quite an attention getter too.
Just watched this video Sam, brilliant as always. I have to agree though these cars are very spec/ colour dependent. Personally, it can only be Blue,Black or Grey. The usual Rosso colours just don't work and Giallo Modena is a complete no go on the Portofino and Roma.
Roma spider sounds like it would make a lot of sense as an opposite to the CS, front engined, modern and a convertible, however a Lusso would be better as a 4 seat family car. surely youve got to consider f12/812 aswell
I bought a Portofino new which I still have .It is one of the most underrated Ferrari,s but I have found it one of the best. I had a GTC4 Lusso T which was great and many other Ferrari,s . I also have an F12 which is pure joy to drive, but always go back to the Portofino for everyday use. I heard the Portofino M doesn't sound quite as good as the original Portofino's but I may be wrong.
@Sam, with all the new Ferrari offerings of late. The Cillindri etc etc I'd forgotten about the 812. And then you go and do this. I thought it was black at first. Then as you revealed the close-up. I exclaimed! Dark blue ( sometimes black) is my favourite colour and quite rare on an 812. I would have pulled the trigger there and then. We'll you only live once 😅. Or is that twice or thrice 😂.
I think the V12 Lusso would be a great choice. Enough space for the family to actually use it for special family occasions. The V12 experience I think adds to the excitement and ticks off a box. Get some sponsor deal with Shell for some free fuel.
I don’t think the 812 will lose much value; in fact, I believe its value may even increase. The successor, the 12-Cilindri, is just as fast, but it doesn’t sound as good and, in my opinion, isn’t nearly as beautiful. It wouldn’t surprise me if the 812 gains a similar status to the 458, with prices staying high.
Hi Sam. For me it would be the Portofino M. Stunning car in the right colour. Blu Abu Dhabi and cream leather. What ever you choose I will look forward to watching the video. 👍
I have a very heavily serviced (maybe the most in the US??) Ferrari FF which is, of course, what the GTC4 Lusso is based on. I love it but the complexities of the four wheel drive system add heavily to the running costs. I paid $129k USD for the car and probably have $60k in upgrades and maintenance.
I feel like the current value of the cars shown, match up with the excitement they bring (to me at least). 812 is most exciting, but a but too much maybe? Lusso is super cool, 4 proper seats, V12 lusso must be insane Roma is cool but I wouldn't dare to drive it, it feels so clean, so classy Portofino is least exciting but it's a bloody ferrari. Seems really refined, imo best value/money for a dailyable Ferrari. Whatever car you decide to buy, I'll love it, will be awesome, looking forward to seeing the adventures with it!
Anyone who has driven a Portofino knows they are much more then we are led to believe. Much more usable then an 812 on a day to day basis! Definitely should not feel bad choosing one over other options!
Such a tough one 🤔 Not a huge Portonfino fan, however open top motoring is a joy to behold, Scuderia Prestige have a belter in stock, paint and interior 🩵 Always loved a Lusso, is it getting on a bit tho? 812 would be amazing, but there are so many of them around, maybe massive stretch to 812 GTS is the answer you’re looking for Sam 😳
If i was in that market id go V12 Lusso, family usability would justify it for me. And still a bona fide V12 Ferrari. Would also respect Portofino M and that would give very different Ferrari content, which is never bad! Good luck!
I love this videos! Great work But to be honest none of those 3 cars really call for me. If you could buy something like a 458, a 488, a 599, wouldn’t you regret buying a more “normal” one? BUT… if you can go for the 812, go for the 812!! There is no other option really 😅 Still, can’t wait to see it
Portofino and Roma are good, but having a V12 Lusso is more practical. Plus it's a V12 screaming Ferrari. You don't have a V12 car in your collection, so it would be great to experience owning one. Thought I would love for you own a 488 GTB or the sypder variant because it more 'newer' mid engine supercar.
I know your heart seems to be set on the Portifino M, but the Lusso seems to tick all your boxes AND has a V12, it’ll probably be the most comfortable for your whole family and it has the appeal of the older Ferraris
So amazing seeing the progression of stg! Starting out from the 4c and f type and now having an amazing selection of cars in the garage and an 812 super fast possibly on the cards 🙌🏻 crazy
I daily my FF. I can't swap it because the V12 is so addictive. I appreciate the FF and Lusso have devisive looks, but honestly, they are worth buying for that engine alone. The 812 will be too close to the CS, you'll want to use it for similar trips.
The Portfino M being a convertible carries a premium over an equivalent Roma which many consider the better all round package, looking on Auto-trader the cheapest Portofino M is £179k and the cheapest Roma is £132k so I’d add that to the list as an option, if I were spending then be the Lusso
Great videos, Sam! Most definitely share your opinion on the Portofino! My friend just lent me his for two days to join him on a tour of Northern Italy with the Suderia Ferrari Club. Fantastic car. I would not worry about what the Net says. I have a Testarossa and 328 and I’d like to add that to my garage for all the same reasons. The M would make more sense, but that is a great spec you tested! Cheers Jason
Surely any car search starts with a list of needs. 1) ferrari (done) 2) budget (£130'000 - 1800'000) 3) seats, 2 or 4 (? Only you can answer this) 4) engine v6,v8,v12 Seems you need to answer question 3 before you move on
A second Ferrari means more videos to pay for it. I second this declaration!

Just finished the video. Do the 812. Hands down. The ideal NA V12 GT car.
Lest not forget how important the analog Ferrari tachometer is. It's bliss, and the new Ferraris don't have it anymore. Shame on them.
If you’re seeking elegance and timeless looks go for the Roma coupe not the spider please, but choose the right color
Portafina M in a heartbeat. Or even a California T, those are spectacular value for money at the moment.
Cali T is the most revolting Ferrari ever made 😞
@@sneakymemes573California T is the mondial of 2010s lol. Even regular California is better
Sam’s passion here is so fun to watch and totally relatable. I mean, he’s showing some of us what we might be able to do ourselves. These Ferrari models are approachable to anyone who can afford a new 911CS for example. Thanks Sam for keeping it real.
Andrew @ AP is always a great guest on the channel. He seems like a really decent bloke and a good crack.
If you can, go for the 812 SF. Sell the Panamera. Wait a year get one and put a Novitec exhaust on it. I remember the video from 2 years ago when you were in the Netherlands and drove that red GTS. You absolutely adored it.
Absolutely love the Portofino, I think its the best looking Ferrari in the past few years. If I had the money it would be my first choice!!
Since I drove that car, sadly I couldn’t help but compare every other car to it, I drove afterwards, and everytime I was thinking, it’s good, but will never be as good as the 812…
The fact, you could daily it and also don’t have to go speeds that will move you through time, makes this car an absolute dream to enjoy!
You have to get what you want, no question, but if you have the chance to get an 812, I would not ask myself for a second which one I would be getting…
Never really known much about the portofino but saw an M recently and it really turned my head
They are amazing cars
Sam, I've been watching your channel for 10 years, POV videos and the 4C. During that time I've seen you grow, you've done amazing. You and I are in the same age range, watching your love of Ferrari has also sparked a love for them in myself. Thanks for being a consistent go-to for entertainment and information.
Go for it. You enjoy the chase. We enjoy following you.
I was screaming 812 from the beginning of the video. The ultimate gt car and a definite to be on the hunt for. You would never regret it…
The portofino m is amazing.
Okay but why did the tractor at 11:02 sound so good?
I just did a review of the Ferrari Roma and they are great value now and fairly new!
Wow, that’s quite a lineup.
Your video with 812 GTS is one of the best videos on the TH-cam! Go with 812, and just stream and record every drive!
Lusso with the v12. Then you have the v8 and v12 in Garage. It is also perfect to take your family out for a road trip. That 812 is😍😍
Last year I bought a 360, my first Ferrari and now I’m as exited as you. Can’t wait to get my second 🙌🏻
Thinking along similar lines, to go with my manual 360 Modena. Will watch with interest; unless I manage to beat you!
Alexanders is a top place.
Finally!!!! ❤❤❤❤ how does this channel not have over a million subscribers is beyond me
The heart says Superfast.
I've had a 458, now have a Cali T with Speciale handling pack.... love the Turbo ❤
I think the cali and cali T was such a stunning car! I personally would go a black or red but deffo have a 812. One of the best modern Ferrari ❤
Just watched this video Sam, brilliant as always. I have to agree though these cars are very spec/ colour dependent. Personally, it can only be Blue,Black or Grey. The usual Rosso colours just don't work and Giallo Modena is a complete no go on the Portofino and Roma.
3:57 … the photos of each car are all dark green 🤔 a suggestive hint?! 😉 Would be a great choice! My vote is the GTC4 Lusso
I had a V12 Lusso and absolutely loved it. Only sold it because I hated putting the car seat in it.
My Ferrari dream came true last month with a 488 - Grigio Ferro with chocolate Alcantara interior. Good luck with the search Sam.
The Portofino M is probably the last Ferrari I genuinely liked everything about. Others have some nice things but the Portofino I think is perfect
I feel like the current value of the cars shown, match up with the excitement they bring (to me at least).
812 is most exciting, but a but too much maybe?
Lusso is super cool, 4 proper seats, V12 lusso must be insane
Roma is cool but I wouldn't dare to drive it, it feels so clean, so classy
Portofino is least exciting but it's a bloody ferrari.
Such a tough one 🤔
Not a huge Portonfino fan, however open top motoring is a joy to behold, Scuderia Prestige have a belter in stock, paint and interior 🩵
Always loved a Lusso, is it getting on a bit tho?
812 would be amazing, but there are so many of them around, maybe massive stretch to 812 GTS is the answer you’re looking for Sam 😳
If i was in that market id go V12 Lusso, family usability would justify it for me. And still a bona fide V12 Ferrari. Would also respect Portofino M and that would give very different Ferrari content, which is never bad! Good luck!
Sam, you have to go for the GTC4 Lusso!! Either way - good luck and we look forward to the choice you go for..
I love this videos! Great work
But to be honest none of those 3 cars really call for me. If you could buy something like a 458, a 488, a 599, wouldn’t you regret buying a more “normal” one?
BUT… if you can go for the 812, go for the 812!! There is no other option really 😅
Still, can’t wait to see it
Portofino and Roma are good, but having a V12 Lusso is more practical.
I vote for the 812 Superfast! Enjoy that V12, your family will understand 😂
I love the Port and the Port M. Great cars! Good luck, I can’t wait to see what you get!
The Portfino M being a convertible carries a premium over an equivalent Roma which many consider the better all round package, looking on Auto-trader the cheapest Portofino M is £179k and the cheapest Roma is £132k so I’d add that to the list as an option, if I were spending then be the Lusso
I’ve never understood the hate for the Portofino. Absolutely beautiful car.
Cheers
Jason
Surely any car search starts with a list of needs.
1) ferrari (done)
2) budget (£130'000 - 1800'000)
3) seats, 2 or 4 (? Only you can answer this)
4) engine v6,v8,v12
Seems you need to answer question 3 before you move on
You’ve got the special mid engine V8 it’s absolutely got to be the V12. 812 or Lusso would be perfect
