  • This horse was very long and overdue to be trimmed and shod again. He was new to me on my books so this was the first time I had worked on him. This horse benefitted greatly from me trimming and shoeing him. Enjoy

    I've been watching a lot of horseshoeing videos lately, and I like yours the best. I appreciate you taking to the teach while you're working.

      @@USAfarrier-pnwfarriershow You are talented in your profession, people that are confident in not only themselves but their profession explain/teach. Everyone is looking for short cut or the secret, they dont want to put in the hours/practice to get to where your at, so you can share your knowledge but less than 1%, will put forth the hard work;dam Im getting windy, so in my long windy explanation teach on its greatly appreciated.👍

      @@USAfarrier-pnwfarriershow Oh crap been wanting to ask you to identify the white line verses the water or moisture line and how to find it to set up your nipper cut when dedreding the sole of the hoof with the knife, thank you for your time.

    I am so scared to use my nippers. I mean, I understand the rasping for smoothness and leveling, but when it comes to using the nippers, I'm so scared I'm going to take too much off and make my horse lame! She's really overgrown like this because I haven't had the money to take proper care of her feet, but now I'm learning to do it myself. Any advice?

      There are some good comments re feet from the video maker/ farrier, I would access those comments, & keep asking, but Never let anyone else touch your horses feet it they're not a recognised farrier, it could be the end of your horse, ( No feet, no horse)

    One thing I’ve noticed in my shoeing is the better I got at fitting feet the more the foot naturally exfoliates the sole better. I know environment and the moisture has a lot to do with retaining false sole. But have you found the better you got with trimming and fitting, the foot sort of self maintains better?

      Absolutely. If you’re nice to feet they’ll be nice. Don’t be aggressive trimming and fit the foot as it should and feet will look good.

    How do you determine "true sole depth"?

    • @USAfarrier-pnwfarriershow
      @USAfarrier-pnwfarriershow  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Going off of landmarks in the hoof while it’s being trimmed. You define the apex of the frog and that’s a good start to finding where the sole depth needs to be trimmed down to. Then as you’re knifing sole out the sole will change from a chalky type texture to a shiny smooth coloration and that’s a good indication of getting to a stopping point. There’s a lot of factors that go into it. I’ve got some more thorough explanations in other videos as well.

      @@USAfarrier-pnwfarriershow Thanks for answering clearly. Haven't had horses now for the past 25 years, but I am really doing a deep dive on shoeing these past few months as it was something I learned a little about back in the day. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge!
