When I went through a long illness, I couldn’t get anyone to shear my goats around here, didn’t last 6 yrs but it was over two. It was very distressing to me & I was so grateful when an old sheep shearer helped me out! My girls were plenty loaded down, matted & dirty. And obstreperous! I was amazed at how steady this llama stood for a shearing! Very satisfying to see. May this creature know nothing but good care from now on.
Me too. I could see she was cautious at first. Poor creature. I used to work on a horse farm and we got in quite a few in terrible condition. I bought one who couldn’t be a school horse that had serious ringbone but worse, a blown knee and split hoof. He’d been a well known eventing horse who took a jump wrong. His owner kept him until he was 14 but the damage wasn’t properly remediated. It took almost a year of care for the foot to stabilize the crack and while we couldn’t entirely mend it, he would be ok for the rest of his life with proper shoeing. The knee was beyond repair but we could medicate and make him more comfortable. His right front foot occasionally drag so he couldn’t be ridden over pavement or grass or by anyone heavy so my daughter used to lie on his back in summer and read. Or ride him at a walk or fast walk for exercise in the sand ring. He was utterly bomb proof. I used to use him for summer camps to teach basic safety and grooming. He loved people. With me he had a silly sense of humor, stealing hats, tools, and tickling me while I groomed him. In time he also loved our farrier and would untie his apron while he worked. He lived to be 22. He was the most lovely boy.
You can see he's freaking pissed about it at first, but his ears gradually started perking up a little bit as the heavy matting was shorn off. I bet he was so much more comfortable afterwards. 💖
Such a beautiful pattern hiding under all those mats! Poor baby looked like he lost half his weight by the time he was done and looks so much better. Wonderful job!
What a transformation. I'm impressed with how still that llama was with not having been sheered for 6 years. Great job, Katie, for mastering the llama's huge fleece removal. I especially loved how you removed the big, super heavy blanket in multiple sheers and dropped it away from the animal. And going back to do a final finishing sheer made that a beautiful video and llama in the end.
When shearing that tail, the little flicker of "eek! I can move it again!" was felt through my whole being. What a magnificent creature, alas!! Looked quite dandy (and maybe quietly dancing) and sweet once it was all done! I've taken in foster fuzzies (and squawkers, quackers, shelled, and just about any other animal) and it's always a pleasure to see their true selves pop out from the weight of their pasts! 🥰
Shanta Williams(So) the reason the other ones had big ashes on them in that as if they explained at the end it's because the the match that were in the sheep we're so tight that it pulled the skin and made the razor cut into them it wasn't that he was doing it wrong it's because the maps were so tight against the skin that it pulled what he was shaving it that the shaver cut into it that's how the guy explained it at the end
What a good boy he was. He almost seemed to enjoy his neck being done. What lovely fiber he will have next year. So skinny under all that too. I'm thankful he is in better care now. I miss your voice over!

Sometimes cuts and nicks happen because there are irregularities under all the coat that the shearer can’t see or feel until the cut has happened. Shears are incredibly sharp - even the non electric types! The animal might also choose to move at just the wrong time, because it isn’t comfortable in the position it was placed for the shearer to work. I can’t think of a single shearer who would NOT be upset about accidentally curing and hurting an animal under their care. This is a really precise skill that takes a LOT of practice to do well, and make it look effortless. Kudos to folks willing to apprentice, study, learn, and practice this vital art for animal welfare.

He went from a plump Llama to a skinny one. He needs more groceries for that gorgeous giraffe colored body. The dirt accumulated in his fleece had to be murder on your blades. I love that you always have a smile and such a happy attitude. New to channel but now a dedicated viewer. Used to have sheep ( spinners flock) and a Angora goat.

That llama was incredibly patient and sweet considering it hadn’t been sheared in over 6 years!!! Only threw a few tiny jerks at you instead of full on fighting! Glad it’s all shorn and comfy now!

Truly a genuine PROFESSIONAL and an EXPERT are your craft and art of Shearing, - The lama could FEEL you ~ she sensed you are there to help her, - I could see all her discomfort just be sheared away- you gave her such comfort and releif that comes from having all that matted yarn removed, ~ She feels vibrant and uninhibited from all the weight of her yarn removed, ie approx. 90lbs
Wow. Knowing you work in Texas Nd living in Houston myself I couldn't imagine having to wear a heavy winter coat year round. It takes a very special person for these animals to be so calm while you shear them and to know you're there to help. I realize you are paid by the new owners to help but keep up the great work fixing human screw ups. God Bless you for what you're doing.

How oddly hypnotic! All I could think of from the beginning was that poor baby was scared but I watched him calm down and realize he was being freed from that mountain of wool. It was pretty amazing to watch.
He was so patient on the left side, like a statue. I wonder why so fidgety when Katie started on the right. Overall such a good llama though. Of course, much credit to Katie for being so gentle with him working to gain his trust.
I wonder if part of it is because the cord was touching his backside and back of his legs and it tickles. Then he was just tired of the time spent, even though it was quite quick.
Some animals just have preferred sides too, I'm a dog groomer and theres a LOT of dogs that are totally fine with me drying them when they're facing left but suddenly I turn him to face right and dry the other side and its CHAOS AND MAYHEM AND PANIC lol

That llama was incredibly patient and sweet considering it hadn’t been sheared in over 6 years!!! Only threw a few tiny jerks at you instead of full on fighting! Glad it’s all shorn and comfy now!
The llama was amazingly still through the whole process except for a few instances. I like how you went back over it after the initial cut and smoothed it out. I know he/she feels much better now! Great job!!

Truly a genuine PROFESSIONAL and an EXPERT are your craft and art of Shearing, - The lama could FEEL you ~ she sensed you are there to help her, - I could see all her discomfort just be sheared away- you gave her such comfort and releif that comes from having all that matted yarn removed, ~ She feels vibrant and uninhibited from all the weight of her yarn removed, ie approx. 90lbs

Wow. Knowing you work in Texas Nd living in Houston myself I couldn't imagine having to wear a heavy winter coat year round. It takes a very special person for these animals to be so calm while you shear them and to know you're there to help. I realize you are paid by the new owners to help but keep up the great work fixing human screw ups. God Bless you for what you're doing.

I am just appalled at this! I'm so grateful someone had sense enough to have this done! Can you imagine possibly what this poor lama has endured for 6 years?!!! Can you just hear it say thank you for doing this for me whoever you are? It's tail is just a wagging with joy! It seemed to be nervous at one time I noticed. Again my very many thanks for a kind thing you have done!

How oddly hypnotic! All I could think of from the beginning was that poor baby was scared but I watched him calm down and realize he was being freed from that mountain of wool. It was pretty amazing to watch.

He was so patient on the left side, like a statue. I wonder why so fidgety when Katie started on the right. Overall such a good llama though. Of course, much credit to Katie for being so gentle with him working to gain his trust.
I wonder if part of it is because the cord was touching his backside and back of his legs and it tickles. Then he was just tired of the time spent, even though it was quite quick.
Some animals just have preferred sides too, I'm a dog groomer and theres a LOT of dogs that are totally fine with me drying them when they're facing left but suddenly I turn him to face right and dry the other side and its CHAOS AND MAYHEM AND PANIC lol
I think he might've had a bad knot on that side that was causing pain. He was much calmer on the right side for the close clipping
