    In regards to the first point:
    It isn't completely necessary to have the first CST mode at all but if you do; on the last node (second CST Node), the input colour space and gama should be davinci intermediate and gamut instead of SLOG3!

      How do I fix the image depending on the camera if the application doesn't offer this kind of depth?
      Is there any "manual" way to do it?
      (I'm using node video editor just im case you are ramiliar with it :)

      Cool, but how am i supposed to add a LUT that's mapped for Rec709 before the CST? It makes the footage look suuuper weird when i try it. Why is probably because the LUTs are made for rec709 and not for LOG, if i put the LUT before the CST it's applied to a LOG image not to a Rec709 image. Makes everything look weird AF. Isn't it very important to have that CST first or otherwise the LUTs look weird? Or is that why you dail it back? Because it's mapped wrong?

      Great to hear! And yeah for me it's always dependent on place of delivery for the project. If it was purely for a general social output, I wouldn't have added the LUT. But for the documentary it was for, I leaned more into that heavier look! Thanks for the support man!

    Very nice tutorial and information, but the LUT at the end wasn’t really effective, How I use the best out of Luts of that nature is that I add a layer node underneath my empty node and I apply the LUT on the node below and change the blend mode to color, that way I just get rid of the contrast and don’t loose the color of the LUT which means I don’t need to dial it back down

    Hey man, great stuff. Subscribed and looking forward to seeing more of your work.
    Quick question tho -- in the CST you put at the end of your node tree (the one that funnels it all into Rec 709), your Input Color Space is Sony S-Gamut3.cine and Input Gamma is S-Log3. But shouldn't the input be DaVinci Wide Gamut and DaVinci Intermediate respectively, since that's the colour space and gamma you're operating with in the node tree prior to that node? Not sure my question is clear, but since the first CST outputs DaVinci Wide Gamut and DaVinci Intermediate, shouldn't that be what you input in the final CST node?
    I always thought that was the case so I wanna make sure I understand fully 😅
    EDIT: never mind, I just read your pinned comment.

    There is no amateur or Pro tricks to color grad. Its preference . Videos like these are done so the sub can sit and watch someone color grade. That's it. How you color grade your footage is based on yourself and what you think looks good. I make videos for client's and often just fix a video if its over or under exposed. Not one client has ever said ' oh this video looks amateur due to you not color grading it' ...Videos like these are done for cheap views something that most video youtubers do.

    • @JusttJC
      @JusttJC  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I understand what you’re saying and agree to a point. However just like with any skill, technique or activity you’re doing, there’s levels to how well you can do it. Your client probably isn’t going to notice it when they first look at it but if you were to show them the video graded by an amateur and the. by a professional, they’d probably notice the difference. Additionally, isn’t the point of why anyone uploads a TH-cam video, to get views on it?😅

    • @orinorio1
      @orinorio1 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JusttJC Clients post phone videos. Phone videos sometimes gets more views than 'pro' videos. Yes everyone post on TH-cam to get views what I'm meaning is videos like these are cheap and is redone over and over. Its a video for you to show of how you color grade. I didn't even need to watch all of your video to know what you would say and show. Its been done over and over. Its more the amateur vs pro title. Just because you can color grade your footage don't mean you're a pro,. I'm sure you watched a video with the same title and thought you should do one. Why is the person you copy a pro? Is it due to the title or how many subs they have. The true Pros in the world wouldn't post videos about being a pro.

    Ok video. But i have to say that your CST setup is wrong. Your Footage is "s-log3". In your CST OUTPUT you are going from "slog3" to REC709 which is correct. but the CST in the beginning is "useless". not only useless you are transforming your footage to "DWG", so if yu tranform it to DWG your CST at the end should go from "DWG to rec 709". Hope it makes sense. Don´t follow Qazi. This guy is "blacklisted" in Hollywood. He steal a lot of stuff and he did many things completely wrong. He is a "hyperactiv beginner" and great salesmen. But don't take colorgradfing advices from him. EDIT: I watched the rest of the video. The way you are using curves (contrast) without talking about mid grey is something what Qazi also does. And it works for one image, but not if you want with 100 or 1000 shots. And your knowledge about LUTs and the way you are using it is also wrong. If you reduce the key output you are also reducing contrast and color. You can do it that way but again. It is kinda wrong. it is OK to make mistakes. It is OK to learn. But spreading misinformation is not ok. Do your grading, fine. But don't talk / teach about grading.

    • @JusttJC
      @JusttJC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting! I’ve used this method for grading full sequences but I guess throughout they have been mostly the same kind of shots/environments/lighting setups and not had any issues but that makes sense what you’re saying. With reducing the key output, if the colours and contrast are too much and I want to reduce them, why is it wrong to reduce the whole output of that node? But thanks for sharing this, will continue to build onto this 🤟

    • @allenpayne9182
      @allenpayne9182 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JusttJC What if you the light shines a bit brighter in one scene. Or you got more "color" in one scene than on another scene. Reduxing the key out will reduce not only the color, but also the contrast. So it is better to split a LUT. But it also has done correctly. Most of the LUT Split videos I´ve seen here on youtube are wrong, too. Sadly. And "pro colorists" will not reveal their tricks for free. Which is understandable, too.
      Learning a technique means nothing whithout knowing the color science behind the tools. I know I sound like an ass or gatekeeper but I am see so many weird things ... becasue people saw something in a video and now everyone is doing it.
      Even if you are doing things wrong, the end result might work. Working in a wrong log color space... it still works. You can create good images. But it is still important to understand that your color space transformation setup is wrong. You convert into a DWG colro space, but at the end you are going from LOG to Rec709. But you should go from "DWG" to "rec709".
      Anyway. Keep it up. Even pros do mistakes and it is ok to make mistakes. Mistakes makes us better. Important is to be open for discussion and listen and learn and try to get better. That is all what matters :)
