    This brought back some happy memories, I trained at Ryton on Dunsmore Coventry class 2/81D I was 18 and proud as punch.

    @0:20 - As you can see, no expense has been spared by the filmmakers in this lavishly recreated aftermath of a burglary. The trick is to start with an empty sitting room & ship in 2 crappy old veneer-covered units, before strategically placing a bin on its side. Back in those days, was quite a feat to remove a tv set with valves in it - probably required at least 2 burglars........

    • @robinbrum
      @robinbrum 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, those old CRTs were huge beasts but I think the valve sets disappeared long before the 80s

    Austin Maestro, the epitome of a fast police car in 1984!
    The job has changed a bit since then. Nice reference to the Sweeney too.

  • @mistermatix8241
    @mistermatix8241 6 ปีที่แล้ว +61

    Love the part were the kid asks "does everyone get to drive a fast car?" then it cuts to a AUSTIN MAESTRO panda car driving out onto a main road! Seriously though, this is what the Police force should be about, enforcing law, meeting the public, educating. It's strange to see kids so respectful towards the Police. So sad, time has moved on, and things should have improved, but thanks to bureaucracy and red tape, society has slipped back to almost neanderthal behaviour. I feel sorry for the Police, budgets slashed, officers sacked, and thanks to political idiocy, human rights and a "criminal as victim" culture, their powers have been diminished to almost nothing.

      Oh believe me, people haven't respected the police since their damn inception. People will always hate those who bring order if they want chaos, particularly on council estates

    Unfortunately property crime including burglary, retail theft and the like are rarely even investigated today. The UK has one of the lowest clearance rates for larceny crime of any developed country. Most of the time there is no point in even calling the coppers unless you need a police report to file an insurance claim.

    • @LuciThomasHardylover-qx6ts
      @LuciThomasHardylover-qx6ts 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Rarely would be an improvement! Where do you live? We'll come there!! I'm fed up with seeing middle aged middle class women waltzing out of the supermarket with a basket full of expensive booze whilst the teenage staff stand back and let them because they've been told to not risk an altercation trying to stop them because the police (who would be coming about 30miles from another town) won't turn out for shoplifting! We all pay for that. And small shopkeepers are struggling to stay in business.

      They are out straight away these days, but only to nick people in possession of 'opinions' contrary to what the narrative sanctions and deems appropriate. Real crimes, like fiddy kiddling, are way down the list - the whole place has gone mad!

      Although it's a West Midlands film there are sections at the district police training centre. These served a number of different forces in the regions to would have young probationers from all those forces.

    How I wish I could go back to those times.
    I never thought I'd ever hear myself saying this, but I miss the 'Local Bobby'. (Don't miss the 'clip around the ear' though 😂)
    The Local Bobby seemed to always be where you didn't want him to be. Normally the place where you were upto mischief 😂
    I swear to God this is true. You could be messing around with your mates at the top of your street & he would suddenly appear out of nowhere. He will find out that you're being a pain in the arse & he would tell you (with a wicked, smug grin on his face) that he was going to talk to your parents.
    You would RUN down your road towards your house & he would WALK in the opposite direction. Now I don't know to this day how he did it, but by the time you got to your house the git was already there & 'Having Words'.
    But give him his due. If you showed him respect he would show respect towards you. And if you wanted someone to talk to, but you couldn't turn to your parents say, he would be there to listen & give you sound advice. You don't get that nowadays unfortunately

    The fact that in the mid 80’s the police were still bothered about stolen videos goes to show how far society has fallen since.

    Actually this is a police Constable. Police officers didn’t exist until the 90s/00s (I can’t remember when exactly they changed this), and this has nothing to do with a mere name change, their entire office changed, officers work for the state and enforce statutes and acts of parliament, a constables job is to uphold the law. However if a police officer produces their warrant card upon request, which they are legally obliged to do so, they are working under the office of Police Constable, and their powers are limited to upholding the law.

    Policing was taken more seriously then, with even the smallest crime logged and investigated, I remember back in 1982 arresting a guy for stealing just £3 from a female, this would be laughed at now.
    The biggest loss is the Bobby on the beat, he interacted with the public, gathered intelligence and gained knowledge of his beat/patch.
    Most nowadays seem to be in a car which they never get out of, interaction with the public is lost.

    • @joelangley7974
      @joelangley7974 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Not their fault, police officers have to deal with so much more jobs now due to funding cuts to other services such as the NHS. Their report writing and paperwork is absolutely ludicrous now, one simple job will take all day to write up due to the amount of bureaucracy involved in Policing.
      I say all this in the third person but I am myself a Police Officer and everyday I am intensely frustrated that I can’t just go out to reported crimes and walk a beat talking to people as this is what I joined for, instead, as soon as I come in I’m tasked to some meaningless task straight off the back then back to the station, write up 100 documents and then to the next job, I never have time to walk a beat which is seriously disappointing.
      There is a common myth that officers nowadays are just lazy and don’t want to get out and meet the public which is entirely false (most of the time, there are some officers that join the job for the wrong reason)
