I bought this tool decades ago. Never ever had any quality problem and works great. Highly recommend this tool.
That’s awesome. I didn’t see a lot of complaints but it looks like they overbuilt it now. Could have been user error too.
@@pozzee2809 I am not sure about long roots. I used it on typical weeds and worked fine.
I’ve had the old style one for almost 10 years now and it still works great. I pulled out a dandelion and the roots must have been at least 6 inches long no problem. Then again the soil my have been wet
I got a 2-pack of these for my birthday this year. Immediately went to work in the dandelions I our yard. Turns out I really enjoy wandering around the yard pulling weeds this way - it’s a great break from working in front of the computer all day!
Please don’t kill the dandelions, they are critical early food for honeybees
@@kevinstewart7657 here in Anchorage there is no shortage of options.for the honey bees… including the sizable dandelion population outside our back fence :-)
@@mikeandkerryak Sorry, not trying preach but here in Central Oregon and many places the bees are struggling from losing food sources and people applying chemicals incorrectly. Glad you’re using old fashioned methods for weed control rather than chems. Cheers!
A followup on this tool I bought on your suggestion, and I’m wondering where it’s been all my life. So easy, and it works! It is sturdy and will save your back. It’s almost fun to use. Thanks for reviewing and linking to it.
I felt the same, I never heard of it except for a subscriber letting me know to check it out. Good stuff!, Glad you like it
I got myself one I’m 34 and have back issues. This is the best ever. So easy to use.
I have been using one of these for years and it works great when used as you instructed. I would suggest that if you can wait until after a rain the weeds are a lot easier to remove.
Thanks for the rain tip. I was about to get after it then saw it’s supposed to rain tomorrow so I figured now I’ll wait and should be a little easier
I have an all-metal variant on this design, meaning no wooden or bamboo handle but it’s all one metal piece. Mine also has a spring-loaded rod that you push and it works to clear the clamp. Works great for dandelions and other weeds with solid centers, and I’m fond of it, but the learning curve included keeping it clean so that the extra “clearing” mechanism doesn’t interfere with the clamping action. With an occasional spritz from the water hose and/or some WD40 to lubricate the spring and other moving parts, I hope to keep using it for a while. Meanwhile, I’ve also had to work with sprays on the clover and “creeping what-cha-call-it.” Nice concise video, thank you!
I bought this after seeing this video. I actually enjoy pulling weeds now. Works amazing in grass, dirty, or mulch areas. I wish it worked in rocky areas. Thanks for the great suggestion!
Actually my grandma had a version of this. Thanks for the video which reminded me of it. I am actually one of those oddballs who cultivate a cover lawn- so this is a blessing since broadleaf herbicides get clover as well.
You are not an oddball. That is the direction we should all be going - ground covers and native plants instead of fertilizer-hungry and water-thirsty grass and non-native plants. I salute you.
I’ve had this tool for a while now. Works just like you said…very well! Especially worth it if you have hip or knee issues. No bending!!
I bought this off your recommendation. The first weed I pulled with it, I stood there for a second, and I laughed out loud. My neighbor must think I’m crazy but he just doesn’t get it.
How have I been overlooking this weed puller? Holy smokes, it really works!
So glad you are loving it. its really amazing. Goes to show the old timers didnt get instant messages all day and had time to really figure things out like this.
I have still have my grandmother's tool, with the patent dates US/CAN 1913, 1914. I kept it from her passing in 1973. And I have had to replace the wooden handle. Cool thing is I've shown my own grandkids how it works, they thought it was great!
Got my tool today. It's a 100 degrees at 3pm. I still went out to attack a few of my monstrous dandilion problems. Previously I used Roundup(ABSOLUTELY FRUSTRATED) on this problem. NOT GOOD. THEN I used the Grandpa's Weeder.
THIS THING IS AMAZING.
I have a lot of work to do but it's better than killing my other grasses.
Footnote: this is a "in the country yard" it's very large and consists of grasses and low growing weeds. Weed and feed almost killed everything but the dandilion. Super product
I bought the Grandpa’s weed remover after watching the video. WOW…..removing weeds was a snap. Love it. Thank you!
That's awesome. its funny, I ended up doing them all and now it's almost a little sad! It is very satisfying popping them out
Grampa's Weed Puller ROCKS!
I have this tool and love it. I actually enjoy pulling weeds with it and so does my wife. Its a back saver. I have had no issue with the handle. I would certainly purchase it again. I wife is really into our yard and she is the one that purchased it to save our backs. Good call.
I’ve had one of these for years and it works awesome and is built really good and has held up to years of my weed pulling!
That’s great to hear
To get that tap root. Use it when the ground is moist. Not dry.
Great video as always Silver. Your product recommendations are always spot on. Appreciate that you recommend products that are the real deal and not junk/fads
The reason your channel is so much more interesting than others. 👍
Wow, thank you, very nice of you
SC, this is the second time I've commented on Grandpa's Weeder. It is wonderful. 2 years ago I had a huge Dandilion problem.
My neighbor, across the road let's her Dandilions grow to seed because she loves the yellow flowers.
I have conquered my problem and am able to maintain controll due to this tool.
Thank you so much for your web site and the information you provide.
I've got one of these. Nothing more satisfying than seeing the complete tap root of the weed when you pull it out.
Great tool that works and saves on your back. You have a new subscriber 🛎. Keep up the great work as the goal is for us to continue to inspire others to build something awesome! 👍🏼
I've got north of 100 000 goldenrod plants I'm considering hand pulling in my field, may purchase this.
This is one of the best tools in my shed. Watering your lawn before using allows more of the weed to come out.
I wonder if this will get rid of my wild violets that my tenacity doesn't seem to touch. Maybe I'll have to buy one and give it a shot. Thanks for the video and your time.
I have one and they are great. I actually look forward to pulling weeds using this. You can also use the fork on the pedal to pull small weeds.
I've had one of these for a few years. It works great. And it's kind of fun!
Thanks for the short to the point video. Just went to Ace, and it's the best $45 I've spent in a while.
Great videos,
I like your recommendations for yard tools, Mowers, great blog
My wife bought me this tool and I can concur that it works really well for me too!
Thank you for the review, I just ordered one from the link you provided. Looks like it will be perfect for pulling up those pesky live oak sprouts around the oak tree in my front yard. I've been doing it the old fashioned way, getting down on my hands and knees for years and pulling them with pliers to keep them at bay and that technique has worked pretty well, but I'm getting old and after a few hours of that I am shot and it is hard to get back up on my feet. This tool you reviewed looks like a MUCH better solution, and hopefully it works... :)
I have had this tool for years and it works great!
There is nothing more satisfying than spraying weeds. From the tiniest to large. All die as the sun shines.
Picking weed even with a tool is slow plus it doesn't get everything. Like clover. One early morning spray everything even before having a coffee.
Like a rat in a trap
So satisfying.
Ya? Wait till you get your cancer diagnosis!
Great job. Love that you’re back on the grass. Been missing the lawn videos 🤗. My favorite is the humic, sea kelp, super thrive concoction that has made my lawn look it’s best in 25 years! Thank you so much 🙏🏼
Thank you, it's been a really tough 6 weeks for weather but I don't care any more I gotta get back out there. More outdoor ones on the way.
I know too well. I’m in MA also. Rainy, hot and sticky. Perfect recipe for fungus😩
Now that is something ! Very ingenious....thanks for the video and link....
Plantain is a herb and can be used to treat insert bits with excellent results. 👌
I bought this tool off Amazon a few months ago. Think I paid 50 buck for it. It was totally worth the price, is well made and makes pulling hundreds of dandelions even possible. It's no joke, and dare I say enjoyable
I have found that a large auger type drill bit pulls weeds out and up all in 1 shot (the kind for woodworking)
It gets the weed and the root as well. Just a tip, only the tip, and just for a minute...
The weed-puller was so good that it was able to pull out their swingset. 🤣
So funny I was just going to shoot a video on this tool! We love this thing!
This thing is cool and I've never seen one before. I have to have one, thanks.
Do you have a really good channel I really enjoy it. Thank you for all the hard work you do.
I have this tool years ago it’s super useful 🎉
Ok. I might just go get it. Thanks.
I have the Fiskars version. I love it. It’s been recommended by arthritis foundation too I believe!
Love this for crabgrass! I just used it for that purpose last weekend!
Local hardware recommended this, I do too. Another great Silver Cymbal video 👍
Bro thanks for the video I didn’t even finish watching it and I placed my order, thanks a lot once again
I appreciate that, I think you will love it
Just bought one with your link before the video even ended.
I appreciate that. Let me know what you think. I love this tool.
Great video! Is this made in the U.S with U.S. steel? Thanks
Yup...just added that to my Amazon Wish List.
Looking forward to the shed build!
Wow that looks really cool! Might have to give that a go! Thanks for this👍😁
Nice tool, especially if you are weeding a flower garden
I cannot believe you even have weeds to demo this tool!
I actually don't believe it...
He tested it in his neighbor yard
They were a 'plant' - heh
I have one of these, but I do have one you didn't list using about 8 nails to grab the root ball... that's my go to
Perfect for me. I love clover but hate crabgrass
I bought one last year, it is a great option to avoid chemicals.
I bought a kit online and I got two of them and I had to install my own handle. Are used one a couple times not many times at all but today I used it and I’ve got it in the dirt over the plant and I pulled backwards like they show the damn thing snapped. The metal just snapped.
Fiskars has a similar tool that works very well. Not all metal except for the stainless steel teeth that grip and extract the weed. Had it for about 10 years.
What do you plug a little hole with after you pull out the weed? Also, I don't consider clover weed, they actually maintain healthier lawn mixed with grass.
Just ordered one through your site. Looks like a great tool.
Just bought this today on clearance at Wal-Mart for $19. Half price. Late summer and fall is when nearly everything goes on clearance. Anyway, this works great on those really prickly dandelion looking weeds. Hoping it will work good on pulling out goatheads.
goatheads?
In my child hood we had a particularly insidious torture device called the Hula Ho. God, I hated that thing. Worthless. This tool looks like it actually works. Who ever heard of such a thing? Aren't these kinds of tools meant to virtue signal from your garage about how dedicated you are to your lawn, though you have never been seen using one? Sort of like the boat that cost you $60,000 and has been on a lake twice since you bought it 16 years ago? Now that could use Grandpa's Weed Puller around the flat trailer wheels about now.
Hope that made you smile or scowl. Have a great day.
Looks like it works exactly like the Fiskars tool. I would have liked to see you pull up dandelions to see how it does against the tap root. It's easy to pull out the visible plant but it will keep coming back if that root doesn't come out.
I have the Fiskars version. It actually works tremendously. It's a lot of plastic though, so if it ever breaks, I like this look of this.
Have you tried the Fiskars Stand-up Weed Puller (4-claw)? If so, which one is better in your opinion. I own the Fiskars and my only gripe is that it pull too much soil along with the weed.
Will buy mine soon! Impressive. Thanks!
Love this tool! With TTTF should I be reseeding all the areas where I pull out weeds or will it fill in on its own? I have some pretty big divots like the ones you posted in this video.
God blessed my back! Thank you for this review
I've got a tool similar to this which I labeled towards dandelion. And it's just terrible and snaps the roots very easily.
Looks great and I need one. But since my front yard looks like a salad, I will also need some seeds afterwards.
Such a cool tool and cant wait for the silver shed build!!!
I’ve heard good things about this and it’s not that expensive!
I wish I saw it sooner. We don’t get a lot of dandelions but Massachusetts cabbage 🥬 plantains we get lots of
It’s 112.00 Canadian 😱
a GOOD PRODUCT ! Thanks Silver
I have the one from Fisker from Amazon these do the job for a few occasional weeds to pull
I have this same product just have a question there’s times when I pull out big dandelions and leaves a big hole on the ground what’s the best method to covering the holes ?
I had to remove so much weed in my hard today and can’t believe how big they was as well as roots
Ordered! Thanks for the suggestion!
Tenacity works very well.
Thank you, I need this tool
Thank you ! I've just ordered one thru your site on Amazon.
Would this work in the desert? I don’t have soft grass . Just dirt hard ground rocks
This is great I need bbn one for sure
Please suggest something to get rid of clovers, in summer as well as winter.
Does this work for weeds around landscaping bushes that have rocks as mulch
Thanks for the video! Ordered one with your link. I’ve been hand digging cats eye and my back is telling me to stop, ha.
Thank you, its a totally different experience. So much nicer. I dont care if a few come back, it literally takes you 5 seconds per weed, more time to walk to them. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have
Best lawn tool for $39. Do you have to reseed the areas weed was pulled out?
Looks simple enough even my brother couldn't mess that up!😁
How well does it work with weeds in rocks
I have one caveat for this tool: The handle has a tendency to snap right where it attaches to the head. I bolted on a steel tube handle, and THEN it was the perfect tool.
I didn't use mine properly and broke the handle where it fits into the socket. I replaced it with a new handle ( wooden) and have had no problems since. Great tool.
I bought a Fiskars tool that supposedly did this and it snapped almost instantly. This one looks great.
Wow. That was great. For small yards, there’s no mixing, spraying, or waiting. I need that
These tools are the boss for crab grass.
Hi there sorry to bother you I was just wondering if you can review the toro zs3200s zero turn mower please and thank you
Because you mentioned Tenacity, Tenacity by itself will not cut it against clover. It spreads too quickly. If you want to destroy clover fast. Tank mix tenacity and Hi-Yield Triclopyr Ester (available on Amazon). Triclopyr is specifically targeted for clover. I had a massive clover infestation. Within two days the flowering clover was dead. One week later the clover was dying. Less than two weeks there are brown spots from where the clover was killed off. There is no grass kill off. After two weeks the clover is literally gone.
I decided to tank mix Tenacity with Triclopyr because it does a good job at hitting perennial and annual weeds.
Just a tip I discovered that works.
Recipe is for one gallon if water with
1/2 teaspoons of Tenacity
3/4 ounce or 4.5 teaspoons of Hi-Yield Triclopyr Ester.
3 teaspoons of surfactant
4-6 teaspoons of blue dye.
Be careful, everybody, with that Tenacity. It is not labeled for Bermuda grass so it is a no-no for 95 percent of yards in Oklahoma. Don't know what grass other places have.
@@channelview8854 if everyone reads the label, they should be fine.
What about weeds that are 1ft. Or 3ft. Tall? Can you pull weeds that arent just at ground level?
I already have the Fiskars stand up weed puller which is based on this tool. I pull out a hundred dandelions every year but they just come back more and more. I think it’s because these tools break the root off, they don’t actually pull the whole root. In your video you only pulled weeds with very shallow roots.
Do you spray anything like Tenacity or another herbicide in those holes to deal with any left over roots?
