thanks Jeff, this is a "basic" video so many advanced slotters might wonder why I've done this. But I get lots of questions from new slotters who sometimes get nervous about asking questions.
Very helpful for our new friends. The beauty of the Scalextric option is you can use Goot Wick de-soldering braid to refurb pickup braid rather than overpaying for something very similar.
On the Carrera braids, I have found that bending the little "ears" just very slightly towards each other before pressing them down greatly increases the chance of a good connection on a first attempt without them kicking out as you press down. It's funny how such a simple process like changing a braid or unplugging a DPR-ready plug or plug-and-play chip could sometimes turn into a minor pain Lol.
Thanks for the tips Dave! Can you do the trick with the Policar braids like you can with the Carrera braids by pulling out the braid more to make one long braid instead of two shorter ones? I would assume so, but have not tried it.
Happy New Year's Eve, Dave and fellow slotterheads. Nothing wrong with going over basics with regards braids. Can't. Tell you how many used slotcars have never seen new braids. Would it be because of not really knowing how to change? Or types?
Hello you there, I may just use thicker brades,I cut the slots open a little bit bigger and slide them in ,but yes I have been busy, and some one broke 5 of my slot cars, and I have been trying to find a place, and live alone, and for good reason, but yes great subjects to talk about,
Comment on the Carrera change out. I've taken the worn out braid insert and opened it up at the fold over copper section. Removed the old braid and used thinner racing braid (Slot-it, NSR, take your pick) but the other change is to position the new braid into the copper section with NO trailing braid. Have it only come out the front and fold over to the rear, one longer continuous run. A win-win over the original setup, softer thinner braid, one long contact "patch" and the guide can be deeper into the slot if tire size allows (or sand the tires to a smaller OD) That's how we race them down here.
Looking forward to the show today. I just received the NSR EVO Corvette C6R Super Gt Series Runup what a car!

Great tip. I'm looking to replace my normal set controlers.
Glad I could help
Can you do a quick video on the Policar ? The ones that have an Allen key ?
