Don't worry about playing scholar of the first sin, all it really changes is some enemy and item placement. Besides fromsoft released it as an upgrade to the original for a reason
I genuinely don't think its an upgrade imo. A lot of the stuff people complain about when it comes to DS2 are more specific to SotFS. There was a video breaking it all down, I forget the title, but yeah I played the original when I was going through the series in the past couple years and didn't find it nearly as bad as everyone likes to say.

Scholar fixes some mistakes of the base game and ruins some other parts. For example the dull ember you need for infusion, in scholar is in a chest as soon as you enter the Lost Bastile while in the base game its in Cheldora. One example of a mistake scholar fixes is that it adds a shortcut in the wharf while in the base game you have to run through the entire area to get to the boss every time you die. At least the DLC are the same in both versions.

You have to think about it from outside your perspective as a human, which is weird. To have an absence of light and heat, you need to have light and heat as baseline concepts. This means that before the flame, everything was an incomprehensible grey. Also seath technically did need a library lmao cuz he was paranoid asf and hated other dragons because he didn’t have scales to keep him immortal, so he became a mad scientist, obsessed with immortality (which is why he has the crystal in the fight)
RE: the light and dark thing. I hear you I really do but think about it a different way lol. WITHOUT light existing at all you wouldn't have "dark" you would have nothing. You need light to both EXIST (somewhere) and to not be present in your perspective in order to define or recognize darkness.
I don't know how some people get the wrong idea of saying Manus is NOT the Furtive Pygmy, have you all played a different game? Even finishing Dark Souls 3 doesn't change the fact that Manus is still the Furtive Pygmy, the first human, the father of humans if you're referring to the dwarven kings in the second DLC, they have nothing to do with Manus.
Ds2 is really divisive. It has a slightly different engine which takes a bit to get used to and mechanics that are unique to it. Most infamously the fact you start with less I-frames on a dodge until you level up a stat unique to that game. It generally just takes some getting used to and understanding which skills carry over from the other games and what skills are punished by this game.
In all honesty, Dark Souls 2... is the best sequel a game could ask for BUT it is not the sequel we wanted. Hence why I HIGHLY recommend to skip the 2. Go straight to the 3rd one as nothing or pretty much nothing will be amiss. The play DS2 for DS2 as a game related but not as a direct sequel. DS2 was honestly too good/ complicated for what we expected for a direct sequel. It is too much of a spiritual successor then a straight sequel. But I like it the most in the sense that it is different, they really tried a new approach to the game design and how to approach combat as a whole. DS2 is you vs a group always. Others are multiple 1v1, there is a slight difference.
@ i actually think its best to play it after ds1 as it eases how jarring it is. You can worry about the new mechanics more than adjusting to the different feel of the engine
Not having I frames when walking into boss fog is literally the dumbest mechanic I've ever experienced. And I'd rather staple my balls to the ceiling than deal with some of those runbacks again it's actually torture its not even fun torture. It's just ass. I've beaten the game and never want to ever go thru that again.
