From the era I first played as well, criticism for being robotic / methodical but as he documented had to rebuild his swing to make it secure under pressure for the majors.
Wow! Just wow! Well I'm trying to think of a way to word this properly? For me it wouldn't matter what golfer you got on your show from now on. You have just hit the pinnacle of golf podcasts. Sir Nick is my all time golfing hero. You could get Tiger on, and it still wouldn't top this. A true true legend of the game, and when he speaks, you listen with every ounce of concentration you have. Well done guys for this. Thank you so much...
One of the best Faldo interviews I've seen for a while. Relaxed, knowledgeable and keen to share. Maybe him whooping you on the course first was a good tactic! Well done, chaps.
Best podcast yet, everyone knows Faldo is a legend but I could watch x10 more episodes like this covering each part of his life and career. #TheLastFarm
Absolutely top notch. Sir Nick has an unusual sense of humour, but once you get onto his wavelength, he is a great guest. He clearly was enjoying himself and the opportunity to speak without fear of misrepresentation. Well done Rick and Team.
This was my favourite yet. Just sounded like a conversation with an old friend and some incredible insights on a truly brilliant golfer. The 6 years from start to Ryder cup to beating Jack is mind blowing and what an amazing place that golf course is too albeit the weather was a shocker for you.
As a younger person who only heard about Faldo's legend, this podcast has given me so much more respect for him! 6 years to learn the game and beat one of the best ever! Insane.
Golf Channel would be very smart to have this on their programming as maybe a "late night" show. No other league besides maybe the NBA has anything comparable.
@Tom Kreiling Agree with you il spread the word to our syndicates here in Gibraltar Faldos stories of Masters green jackets and how it works is priceless and never been told
I'm 42 yrs old have been a casual golf fan since a kid and I've never quite liked Sir Nick Faldo when younger, probably due to press but this interview and 9 hole has absolutely changed my mind. What an absolute top guy. Hats off to him how well he's done for himself 👏
Different class. I watched Nick Faldo at the Muirfield Open. His long iron play was on another level. As he pointed out he was hitting drives 260 to 270 and firing the approach shots to under 15 feet every time. I watched from the green and to see him as a spec in the distance and the ball come thumping down on the green is a sight I will never forget. All done without a range finder just Fanny Suneson on the bag.
Absolutely brilliant - dropped Sir Nick home once - wow what a golf room full of memorabilia and two drum kits 👍 had a lovely red 911 in his newly built garage and one piece of felt fell on it he went mad - absolute perfectionist - that was back in the 80s - played at Frilford Heath and Staunton Sands with him - amazing ball striker every one pured! Great video chaps👍
Tommy was brilliant. Bryson was intriguing. Hovland was fascinating. But this one blew me away. Well done, guys. Sir Nick is such a great storyteller, loved every minute of it! Honestly, I can think of only one guy who could possibly top this ;-)
What golfer on the planet wouldn’t have had the best lesson of their lives from listening to Sir Nick in that conversation. Confident but humble, knowledgeable and intelligent. Great to see you both having the opportunity to chat to such a great champion. Thank you for sharing with us all.
Interviews like this are why this is the best golf chanel. Sir Nick was relaxed, your questions were insightful, resepectful but not obsequious. I think he appreciated ths and seemed to enjoy it himeself.
Absolutely bloody brilliant ! Thank you , so interesting to hear Sir Nick's thoughts ... As an older one and knowing some negative newspaper writes up about Sir Nick in those times I've always thought he was our greatest golfer
I think a lot of golfers even then liked nick for being so committed to what he needed to do at the cost of not being the blue eyed boy of the press. I remember him saying back in his peak on a BBC interview for him it was about trying his maximum to compete and win, when he couldn’t he would be done. But he could look back and know he had given his all and not gone through the motions
Epic what a legend 👌 On a different note how cool would it be to do the same thing with B Langer thst dude is another legend and still ripping it up on tour Rarely gets mentioned one if my personal greats that I grew up watching on the tele box as well as Faldo 👌👌 miss the days of golf on normal tele the open on all day every day with Peter alliss and Alex hay fantastic
Think he always got an unfair rap (and selective coverage) off the press back in the day tbh. That said, he's stated that in hindsight he would have got to know his fellow pros, e.g. Greg Norman, better than he did. What a legend though, love the guy
Best podcast yet, guys. I could listen to Faldo for days. We should also remember that the majority of us are only playing golf because of Sir Nick; he was our guy taking on and beating the world and inspired the next generations to get out on the course. Its a brilliant hour of top class listening - well done!
Absolutely fantastic! I grew up in the Faldo era, he was always misunderstood because of the media and he is a legend. Thank you, for such brilliant content!
Same here mate..he got a bad rap because of his temperament sometimes...like he'd get a bit frustrated and the media would make a massive deal out of it. Nick was my favourite golfer by far back in the day. Great to see him so relaxed and chilled here, very genuine with a great sense of humour.
Best one you’ve done by a country mile. Faldo was my golfing hero growing up and he’s such an good communicator and seems so comfortable in his own skin. Whenever Sir Nick talks, I stop and listen.
@@bagpussmacfarlan9008 I even did the same thing as him as a kid. One ball would be Seve and the other would be Faldo, my imagination would then take me to the last round of The Open and the final two ball and I’d then play a game between the two for the Claret Jug.
I have my old irons as have come back to the game at 60, they are about 25 yrs old cavity back even then and are still decent, but what the pros played then very unforgiving.
Sir Nick is a joy to listen to, please try to get him back for more of his stories about himself and the greats of golf. Best podcast yet by a country mile.
Great interview, lads. That was really interesting what Faldo said at the end about the fact that the tour pros usually only play the smae courses on the tour circuit and how businessmen will have played more of the top courses in the world than the tour pros. Also his perspective on a golf course without the grandstands in place was really interesting.
Indeed, as in a real opportunity to take in the surroundings and admire where you are. One of the joys of golf is the peace that often surrounds you as you cut away from everyday life
The best so far gents. Sir Nick was the reason I took up golf when I was a kid. My dad got me hooked on the masters because of Sir Nick. Still my favourite golfer ever. Keep them coming Rick.
Rick, this is by far one of your best interviews. Sir Nick is a very humble gent. I have always admired his play and watching him when he played and now as one of the best analysts on TV.
One of the most inspiring things I remember from the 80s and 90s was the Nick Faldo charge. There was a point in the middle of that era (probably '90 when I was 18) when you knew it was coming - and it did. He was the Ian Botham of golf for lads of my generation: more controlled and disciplined than Beefy, of course, but with the same champion's flare. He was simply magnificent.
Best interview to date, and zero offense to all of the other great ones! So awesome to see Sir Nick Faldo in just a mellow, easy going conversation! Love it!
At his prime Sir Nick was berated by the British press for his attitude and demeanour, that is why Nick and Seve are/were my favourite golfers, the fact is that he is the best golfer this nation has ever produced. I could listen to many many more podcasts with Sir Nick this was fascinating and the time just flew by. A national treasure.
Absolutely brilliant podcast, and the coverage of what happened on the course maybe even better! This guy is just so absorbing when you hear him talking golf or giving tuition, could listen to him all day. Love the bit about feeling like, "yes, I've found the secret! I've got golf sorted!" - and then it all goes to pieces on the next outing! I think all of us, whatever level, has experienced that feeling about our own game. Bloody golf! Keep up the good work guys, look forward to more content.
Listened to this in the car the other day; was laughing and smiling throughout - simply an excellent interview. Sir Nick is a legend. Watching it again to see your reactions to the big answers.
This is simply delicious...! FUN to see and ear the REAL Nick Faldo one of the coolest Tour Player I had a chance to meet long ago..! who at the time even if he was one of the most popular player, in private was one of the simplest and funniest guy I met. Exactly like he was with you guys..! I'm sure you know and understand what I'm meaning after your interview...when you are a big golf fans !.. Great Job Guys !..
Well done! This i s superb.... I have never heard or seen Sir Nick so relaxed and open. This is because you both put him at ease and you could sense that he was not 'on his guard'. Light and interesting.
I grew up watching those last 6 holes on Sundays at the dinner table with my dad. I wish I realized the greatness I was witnessing back then. My dad would tell me the stories of Lee Trevino and the characters of the day. I remember being a Langer fan because of the way he dressed and Seve because of his swagger. Tom Watson and that whole era just rocked. I still watch golf on Sundays and miss my dad. There's still nothing like the last afternoon of a major.
My era as well, listening to the St Andrews open on the Saturday, Faldo V Norman, that round was the perfect illustration of how small margins impact golf. I think a ten shot swing where nicks putts that didn’t drop Friday, did and vice versa for Greg. His record in the Ryder cup, legend
We've had so many and have so many Great british, Irish and European golfers , but Sir Nick and Seve will always be the best , superb interview, Sir Nick will always be a legend 🏌️♂️⛳️👍

I’d like to take the time to thank you personally for such an amazing interview with an absolute legend of the game and my absolute golfing hero. Brilliant Rick just brilliant
Peter Allis and Sir Nick are the voices of golf for me! While we don't have the late, great Peter with us anymore Sir Nick has made the adjustment of not hearing him anymore that bit easier. Loved this Pod guys 👍
I'm 41, I grew up watching sir Nick Faldo on the little TV in the kitchen with my grandad, we loved cheering him on and the reason I picked up the love for the sport from a young age. this was a amazing episode, such a lovely comfortable chat really funny too, I just also want to say "cheese and salad cream sandwiches are awesome but also slices of cucumber raise the game! 😋 Cheese and pickle is standard but can i ask have you tried cornbeef and tomatoe ketchup? It's pretty good. Much love guys, thanks for the content x
Excellent. I remember when he went through hell after changing his swing. The ball was going in all directions but somehow, he kept focussed on what needed to be done and came out the other side a much improved player. Just shows how important the mental side of the game is.
And was getting grief for that single minded focus / dedication. As in you’ve won tournaments as a pro, Ryder cup etc and have to re build and be methodical etc. press soon changed when he won his majors
First I want to give my praise to you on making this happen. Nick Faldo was - and still is, my true hero. I started playing at 14 years of age as him, but I'm only 47 now, so he was a big inspiration to me when he had his "prime time" at the same time as other great golfers was around. I really feel a connection with him and I also practised looking at my reflection in our garden glasshouse back in 1987 (I even accidently broke a couple of those glasses (oops) Not on my mothers favourit list.) I watched him winning those six Majors and thougt a lot about how difficult it must have been to get a new coach (Leadbetter) and to make the dicision about changing your swing, just to get where he obviously ended up. When he was at his best, he was unbeatable. Just ask another of my heroes Greg Norman....
That had to be the best Podcast I've ever watched in my entire life. Not only the best Rick Shiels Podcast but the best ever. I honestly wish that went on for another 3 hours, just listening to Sir Nick Faldo talk was amazing. Truly class act, great job.
What a totally fantastic doco - well done guys - next Ian Woosnam. Being an aussie, growing up with Greg Norman, David Graham, IBF, Seve, Nick Faldo, Nick Price, Ian Woosnam and co, what an era....see if you can get some of the others for a truly international footprint - what a doco you did about behind the scenes at Augusta - well done team rick!!
Loved it!!! What a treat for you to have that opportunity to interview one of the greats and for Sir Nick to spend that much time with you guys. One of you best for sure!!
Soooooo good! I have watched it 2 times, and want to see it now for the 3rd time. But have to save it for tomorrow. You guys brought out the best of Nick. Fantastic work!!
I don't watch many long TH-cam videos but this one I couldn't stop watching. Hour plus? Seemed about 20 minutes and I could have watched another two hours. Thanks Rick.
What a superb interview with Sir Nick, this interview shows a different side of him and the wisdom he has and knowledge he has is brilliant. Think this is one of the best interviews I seen and really congrats on you both for getting a legend of the game to give up him time and talk about the great game we all love. Sir Nick i always thought he was up himself but after listing to him over the last hour change my mind a lot.
Best one yet guys. I could listen to Sir Nick all day talking golf and not get bored, absolute legend

I watched him winning those six Majors and thougt a lot about how difficult it must have been to get a new coach (Leadbetter) and to make the dicision about changing your swing, just to get where he obviously ended up. When he was at his best, he was unbeatable. Just ask another of my heroes Greg Norman....
Great interview. Faldo is a gentleman. And he gives great advice.
This is by far the best one yet- amazing insights and so cool to listen to Sir Nick. Loved the masters chat!!
Hands down the best podcast, I'd love watching Sir Nick when I was kid
I don't watch many long TH-cam videos but this one I couldn't stop watching. Hour plus? Seemed about 20 minutes and I could have watched another two hours. Thanks Rick.
What a superb interview with Sir Nick, this interview shows a different side of him and the wisdom he has and knowledge he has is brilliant.
Think this is one of the best interviews I seen and really congrats on you both for getting a legend of the game to give up him time and talk about the great game we all love. Sir Nick i always thought he was up himself but after listing to him over the last hour change my mind a lot.

The best yet!!!! So full of gems, he was so generous with his stories, so relaxed. Loved this one so much
