'It surprises me that we don't look for more Pink Floyds and less what's at the top of the charts at this particular moment.' A sentiment still true 20 years on.
Strange that he mentions his Grandmother, when my Grandmother died I listened to "Today" over and over again. Really got me through it all. I can only hope if my band gets pretty far I could do the same.
My aunt once told me that her mother (aka my grandma) once found some journal entry where she'd written lyrics from that song, and was like, "wow, today is the greatest day you've ever known???" Or something like that, and my first thought was to ask if she put in the line about "I'll burn my eyes out" lol. Both my maternal grandparents passed within two months of each other back in 2013.
I never knew Billy introduced Pink Floyd into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This is such a beautiful intro. Pink Floyd is my fave band of all time, especially David Gilmour. I just love WPC's intro and love seeing him play with them as well. Well done sir!
You can tell Billy is not out there because he signed an agreement to do it , or because he owes some record exec a favor.. you can tell he is a huge fan and PF’s music moves him and speaks to him. That’s why i love both these bands. They put out music they want to listen to themselves and not just some conglomeration of tones, beats & lyrics the pollsters tell them will play well on Spotify.
@zefdin101 it's an insane honor to induct a band of that caliber, I'd think. The only reason I can think of to turn it down is out of fear that I wouldn't be able to do the occasion justice.
Pink Floyd has had such an influence in music, even in today's releases from different cultures and society. Their music is timeless and that is what makes them the great band they are. They say that the greatest music stands there's of time. Funny the song Time is in itself is that standard
Personally, I would say that is their best singles album (Zero) from the Mellon Collie Era. Marquis in Spades, Mouths of Babes, Pennies, Tribute to Johnny and the infamous Pastacio Medley. The second half of the latter song was used numerous times to drive my roommates nuts.
Didnt catch either. Very nice observational skills. It's really very clever & oppertunistic is what it is & kind of exemplifies Billy Corgan & his carreer in some ways. Like I said, that's clever & oppertunistic of him but is the induction into the Hall of Fame of one of the truly legendary bands in rock music history the time & place to plug your current project. 'your' being the key word there. This isn't about you. It's about Pink Floyd. I thought alot of his attempts at humor fell flat, literally, because of the smug way he'd float them out there & when he didn't get the audience response he was hoping for he would he compensates by adding his own little kind of laugh/condescending snicker that didn't come off well. Don't get me wrong. 8 love alot of the Pumpkins' music up to Melancholy/ Sadness & I was one of the only people that bought Gish when it came out. He's talanted. I get that. He's media saavy. @Terrence Reardon and Friends Podcast Podcast D'arcy, James, and Jimmy sang on songs. Some of them even have their own songs sung on the albums. You clearly don't know that and go on to write a bunch of common knowledge. I feel bad for people like you that dismiss the bands you mentioned. It's ok to like more than one genre or era of music. I agree with everything else you said but you didn't really take a stance that was brave or unique, everyone knows all this. One thing I don't understand is how Zeppelin got away with ripping off so many other songs note for note and are never judged by it even if they did it 'better'.

Why? What if a casual fan got more of a connection with them that made a positive change in their life because of them? A super fan might not have that.
He may seem casual on the surface. But Billy doesn’t really do anything half assed. You can tell he was more than a casual fan by listening to early Pumpkins. They were very psychedelic. A direct influence of Floyd. So he may have been late to the game because of his age , but I’m sure Billy’s appreciation of Pink Floyd is fairly deep and sincere.
