  • Skoda Octavia RS iV is a Plug-in Hybrid car (PHEV). It has 1.4 l TSI turbo-petrol engine (110 kW/ 150 HP) plus electric motor: 85 kW (115 HP). Total system power: 180 kW (245 HP), 400 Nm. The lithium-ion battery capacity: 13 kWh gross (part of it is available for driving). Škoda claims Octavia RS iV can cover ~60 km (~37 mi) in all-electric mode. I checked it in a city. Result: 60.5 km (37.6 mi) in real test (eco-driving in a city).
    Škoda Octavia iV RS results at certain speed:
    90 km/h (56 mph): ~54 km (~33.5 mi) [17.5 kWh/100 km]
    120 km/h (75 mph): ~38 km (~23.6 mi) [25 kWh/100 km]

    That’s pretty good. Many people could do their entire daily commute, including taking kids to school, in EV mode.

    Mam w domu A3 e-tron z 2017 roku, swietnie mi sie tym jezdzi. Jedyna wada tych PHEV Vaga jest taka, ze auta maja dosyc duzo mocy przenoszonej na przod i bardzo latwo przy mocniejszym wcisnieciu gazu o strate przyczepnosci, gdyby bylo 4x4 nie byloby tego problemu

    Fajny test! Dzięki za niego! 2h i 60,5 km jazdy na samym prądzie po mieście, to całkiem przyzwoity wynik. A testowałeś może czas ładowania?

      Po podłączeniu do gniazdka 230V przy minimalnym możliwym poziomie naładowania, 100% miałem po około 5 godzinach.

    Nice test! Can you repeat it after parking car outside for the night? Another Polish TH-camr reported huge range penalties due to cold battery (no possibility to park in the garage), less than 20 km range in Skoda Superb iV.

      @1001cars  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Less than 20 km? Sorry it is impossible :) After few minutes the temperature of the battery is the same no matter where you start. The whole trip took more than 2 hours.

      Really, I don't know what we have to do to use much more than 40 kWh/100 km. Difference between 1 and 4,5 degrees is in reality quite small.

    please explain the results : Skoda declared that car has 13kwh battery. But 60.5km with 15.7 kwh/100km its 9.5 kwh. Where the rest 3.5 kwh? I was sceptical that car with 13kwh could only do so little distance, but your consumption (15.7) showed that its pretty good. So with it, cat should have done almost 83 km. My explanation - either consumption shown in car screen is wrong, or car doesnt use all the battery efficiently. Because it does charge 3.5 h with 3.6 kw = 12.6 kwh

    • @1001cars
      @1001cars  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      As always (in every Plug-In Hybrid car) the user does not have access to full capacity of the battery. Usually you can use no more than 70-80% of it for electric driving.

    • @NoName-md5zb
      @NoName-md5zb 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@1001cars yes, I understand that. So you also charge only those 70-80%? Because Skoda says that it takes 3.5h to charge at 3.6kw. Which makes about 13kwh - full battery. As I understand you charged this car - how long it took?

    • @1001cars
      @1001cars  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NoName-md5zb Yes, you charge this 70-80%. You have to remember that you cannot charge last 5-15% at full speed (power), this is why you cannot just multiply speed of charging and time :)

    • @NoName-md5zb
      @NoName-md5zb 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@1001cars thats what I thought. So actual charging time is a bit less than specified by skoda. I didnt find any info about usable battery capacity on octavia, but superb iv seems to be using same 13kwh system and it says that 10.4kwh is usable. Probably same on octavia. Though in your test it was a bit less

    • @1001cars
      @1001cars  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@NoName-md5zb The usable capacity of the battery in Octavia iV is similar to Superb iV. Any differences comes from conditions (temperature).

    Does it shift in ev mode at all?

    • @1001cars
      @1001cars  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Are you asking about gearbox shifting? Yes, it changes gears in EV mode but quite rarely and this is very difficult to recognize- really comfortable.

    • @aka7kak8
      @aka7kak8 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@1001cars yes, I would expect to have no shifts in ev city driving for comfort and longterm clutch life expectancy. Gearbox allows most efficient ratio selection but shifting an electric motor is nonsense to my mind.

    • @1001cars
      @1001cars  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are right on the one hand, but you have to remember electric engine should be used in the most efficient way (the best revolution number) and this type of engine (low rpm engine) is different comparing to electric engines from typical electric cars (high rpm engines). Reason: it has to be similar to rpm of combustion engine.
