I love how cliff asks Claire if she wanted to handle their daughter first. He didn't become passive and "let the mom handle it" he had her back and was 100 percent present and ready to step in if Claire needed him to but trusted that she had the correct response for their daughter. This showed Denise that they were a united front and she wouldn't stand a chance if she got the notion to try and use one against the other. They didn't have to get aggressive or angry, they didn't even have to raise their voice. They didn't talk down to her or demean her. Parenting goals.
Parenting. You hit it right on the nail. We live in a world where we've unfortunately, allowed social media and its wares dig their claws into the minds of children, convincing them that parents are unnecessary. It was shows like this and others before that still held parents in honor. God bring this back please...give our children a chance!
@@lamontmelrose7640 You people are ridiculous. Y'all say this crap as if people weren't saying the exact same thing DURING the 1980s when this show was popular. I promise you, they WERE saying it. "Kids these days" is an old, old line that people have been repeating for every damn generation. It wasn't true then and it's not true now. Yes, with a nice chunk of money anyone would like. Hee Hee--just some humor to let out. Claire/Phylicia was a great actress and smart enough to be a lawyer in real life, I bet.
Unfortunately, with this newer generation of bad parenting and allowing their brats to do what they want with not an ounce of respect for their elders or authority figures, we may never see this kind of good stern discipline and excellent parenting EVER again. We are in an era where children are now terrorizing schools. That alone speaks volumes about the kind of parenting today. Back in the 70s and 80s, that kind of foolishness did not happen.
I wanted to be like Claire Huxtable when I was a kid. Claire was such a boss. She always kept everybody in check. My favorite was when she got Elvin all the way together about his sexist attitude in the "serving him coffee" scene.
....and elvin's roles of women was waaaay outdated, so Clair had to put him in check: she said "if you don't get it together & drop this macho attitude, you're not gonna have anybody bringing you anything anywhere anyplace anytime EVER!!! Now.... would you like some ☕?" .
If we had more parents like Clair, there wouldn't be the issues with kids these days needing a trophy for everything, or getting into trouble. She wasn't her kids "friend".
