Homemade Log Winch and Log Arch back on the job for some more work on the timber bridge project. Today on the bridge I'm able to get the second arched timber rolled and fit into place. Also used the blow torch and was able to burn some of the wood to help protect it from rot. And added a foundation drain around one of the bridge piers. Hope you enjoy it!

My phobia is two surfaces together hold moisture, leave a little air space for drainage. Early log home joints all had a slope for water to run off. Love your work ethic.

Looking good. You need a flat steel bracket to bolt the top of the arch to the flat beam below (to transfer the load up to the arch). I’d also run a cable (or long threaded rod) between the flat beams to stop them spreading in the middle.

Use a 1" spacer rod in between to keep them parallel and even spaced. The bottom of the boards and even the tops can be sprayed on whether it is stain or paint (Properly thinned). Good luck.

Coming along fine ... next time, a small diameter appropriate piece of rope at the bottom of your joint will allow you to pull and clear the sawdust. Also, "dish soap" is good, "Bar Soap" (Irish Spring, Ivory, etc) is better ... also good on faying surfaces of wooden stairs ... prevents "Squeaking" once assembled. Great job Bro !!!

Great video captain. The only change I would make, is to remove the end planks. Notch longer planks so they run longer than your beam. (water proof) Especially on the left side the turn coming off the bridge will force a tire off on your trailer. You can reuse the cut planks elsewhere. G1 Cheers!

Somethings that you can also use for moisture resistance in your joints is fibered roof coating as well used motor oil. Some will say "don't" but for bug resistance, and some moisture, it can do wonders as long as the moisture on the inside of the log, has a place to escape.
On the foot of your bridges do the best you can to keep the end grain from being exposed as they will draw moisture. If you have a bit more of your water proofing cover, see if you can cover it some so the water runs off before it can soak in. Just a thought.
