- Meta Quest 3 is launching soon and Quest 2 owners have to decide if they want to upgrade. The benefits of upgrading are obvious, but that doesn't mean every Meta Quest 2 owner should. This video covers reasons why it makes sense to stay with Quest 2

I’m thinking about getting a quest should I buy a quest 2 or wait til quest 3
@@cookiekaigames It's close enough now that if it's in your budget, I would advise waiting for Quest 3.
I got the Quest 2 recently. It was actually the Apple Pro announcement that inspired me, as I can see VR / AR becoming more mainstream in coming years and I thought the quest is probably the headset to get started on. Also we are starting to explore and develop VR / AR experiences at work so I need to understand and get savvy with this technology. Iv been blown away so far on the immersion regardless of fidelity, excited for the future and will probably get the Quest 3 in due course but not right away.
Welcome to the cult!
The best app for work productivity is called Immersed. It’s free if you’re looking for a nascent spatial computing app. I’ve been recording for a video, but I want to wait until I have a headset with color passthru.
Thanks for watching!
Lol the quest 2 is still 600 here in aus.
@@jyeprice9382 Seriously?!? Geez....
Do you use quest 2 on a MacBook? I am looking at the apple vision for working in, but the thing which will put me off is if I can’t also use it with steam vr for racing games. I just want one headset. Also want to get rid of the index cos all the wires are annoying.
@@RockG.o.d As of now, you won’t be able to use AVP with SteamVR. Give it a few months post release and I’m sure someone will hack a solution.
I can’t say for sure about Quest 2 on a Macbook. I’ve heard shaky things about the Virtual Desktop experience and the Oculus PC app doesn’t have a Mac equivalent. Unless you have Windows Parallels running.
As for Quest 2 vs Index, you’re going to get better resolution on Quest 2, but a smaller (by about 20 degrees or more) field of view. For racing, that may be a dealbreaker for you.
I just bought the quest 2 a week ago and I LOVED IT. I didn’t wait for the quest 3 because its too expensive for my budget. I’ll 100% upgrade to the 3 once the support of quest 2 ends.
Makes sense. You’ve got a good year or more I feel. Thank you for watching!
@@liveopenmike your welcome!
I have a Quest 1, got it as it finally allowed me to test out VR without a pc. enjoyed it, but sorta shelfed it a bit. Air Link allowed me to take what was getting dated and connect it to my new pc and reignite that enjoyment for vr and experience even more. ill be grabbing the Quest 3 for that some type of thing. Upgrading to get the new stuff, while still being able to connect it to my pc for versatility.
That's where I'm at too. Best of both worlds!

Prepare yourself for a downgrade in FOV from the Quest 1.
93 on quest one up to presumed 97@@dtz1000
Literally exactly what happened with me
I have a quest one also except my controllers are broken and it's outdated
When I tried the infancy of VR backnin 1994, I could never have seen myself taking any more of an active interest. But from the moment I tried out an Oculus Quest 1, I was hooked for life. VR got me through the pandemic, kept me in touch with my friends as if we were having real parties, and has enveloped me in adventures and experiences that I never could have hoped to see otherwise in my lifetime. In other words, you'd better believe I'm getting a quest 3. LOL
It was a godsend for me during Covid too! Hope to see you around when I'm doing my endless streams of Quest 3 videos this fall.
yeah it definitely got me through the pandemic as well. As much as I dont really share values with the people on VR Chat, I cant say I dont enjoy spending time with people there. Idk what I would have done during the pandemic where it not for that ancients group I joined.
Not to get too political. But just yeah, there's a type that generally plays VR Chat.

@@ratuse yup and have wayyy too much time on their hands.
Nice video mate! I was actually full keen to be a day 1 purchaser of the quest 3 as well. I’ve had my quest 2 for about 2 years now and thought the upgrade was a no brainer… however I decided to instead sink all my savings into a vr ready pc which actually opened up wayyy more options for me game-wise, and playing cross buy enabled games I’ve already played stand alone on PC has definitely cemented the fact that a PC was the right thing to spend my money on. HOWEVER, I will still buy a quest 3 as like you said that’s where the exclusives are, and I want to play them with the best experience possible, it will now just not be possible for me to purchase it day 1 as I need to start saving again.
I loved getting access to PCVR for the back catalog of games, but I've bought precisely 4 new PCVR games in a year and a half (Wanderer, Vertigo 2, Lonn, & Hubris). The lack of frequent decent releases makes me glad I have the Quest library as well.
Thanks for watching!
Yeah I feel you there, I was totally blown away when I jumped into half life alyx the first time, it’s almost worth buying a PC just for that game. I’m also excited for lone echo 1 and 2 and asguards wrath but that’s about where my list ends. I absolutely love the quest 2 and think it’s an amazing piece of hardware however the horror titles never really sucked me in, I feel that the significant improvement in pc graphics is very important for immersion when it comes to those…. Affected: the manor made me feel slightly on edge on the quest but the pc version actually made me scream. Having a pc is now actually encouraging me to buy MORE quest games because I find incredible value in cross buy enabled titles, allowing me to play at home with the better graphics but also take the quest away with me when I travel or visit friends to still be able to play the same titles and show as many people as possible and try convince them to get a headset of their own!
@@Sharrocker Same! Love cross buy. I wish every dev did it.
I really bought the quest 2 for a cheapish wireless pcvr physical fitness reason/vr dancing. However I'd be more then willing to pay the extra price difference for better display clarity/readability and the ability to look around without having to turn my head to focus on something. The change in weight distribution of bringing the weight closer to the head could be pretty beneficial for keeping the headset more secure on your face with less "shifting" but I don't know by how much but just the slimmer profile is a nice direction also. I'm looking forward to the lcd displays as I've often felt the colours in the quest 2 look muted or not as bright as they should be and its a damper on my immersion.
I do think its a minor shame that the quest 3 won't support eye and face tracking however I can guess that it wasn't affordable to include it and still maintain a reasonable price for their headset. I do think the quest pro isn't to bad a price point at its new adjusted price when you consider the touch pro controllers + face and eye tracking into its price factor it'd be very similar to the quest 3 just without the higher clarity passthrough and a few other small things. Unfournatly for me the quest pro head strap design and the built in battery on the back is abit of a let down for me in the outward ability to change the head straps and comfort mods. Also I'm not sure what I think of its forehead only face cushion and overall design in that area. If I had extra money to spend I'd consider both but that's a bit of a luxury.
That's the ultimate catch 22 with having the battery in the back for Quest Pro and Pico 4. The lack of strap options.
With the recent report that Quest Pro production may be stopping this year, it looks like eye and face tracking will remain a premium feature until the next cycle of headsets comes in the next 2-3 years. Sucks for the crowd that cares about those. Hopefully the tech continues to get cheaper.
Thanks for watching!
Big dilema for sure. I almost bought Quest 2 but luckily i took my time with my research on the headset ie. endless and countless hours watching TH-cam content creators to the point rumours about Q3 coming soon started popping up. I am looking forward to Q3 be my 1st VR experience !
We all also know, Q2 will be slowly dying until Meta pulls the plug on it entirely.
Thanks for watching! Good on you for doing your homework first.
I think the death of Quest 2 is still at least a year out. As an introductory headset at $300, still decent value compared to the rest of the market, particularly if you’re in North America and Pico 4 isn’t an option.
Either way, q2 or q3, your first vr experience will be phenomenal
We all know it will eventually come but I'm going to say 2 years. Ill say Q2 will have another two years before things go downhill fast. I'm going to go further and say things will slow down with the quest 4 when things start to level out and they last a bit longer. Just a thought.
@@theo.outofthebox I'm actually okay with a two generations old headset being retired at that point. Only on PCVR do you see people still clutching to Oculus DK1s and demanding devs in 2023 make games compatible with it.
But for the folks who can't afford a $500 Quest 3 right now, Quest 2 still having a year or two left before it's put out to pasture (and by then Quest 3's will be on the secondary market) is a perfectly viable option.
Nah, Quest 2 still having life (2 years I think). Yeah, its an "old" headset, it has been released on 2020, but just now we are watching the real power of Quest 2. Since Meta stopped supporting Quest 1, the developers could focus on Quest 2 hardware and don't have to downgrade the graphics for Quest 1 users. Also, the fact that Meta is upgrading Quest 2 to "unlock" the power of the CPU and GPU (nowadays we are in level 4 of CPU and GPU power, and there are 5 levels, it means that there is one more power update left to Quest 2) could mean that they want to stay with Quest 2 some more time.
I have a Quest 2, and I will get a Quest 3, but maybe wait 6 months. I am in no hurry, so I can wait for the reviews and a few updates and still enjoy my Quest 2. I am looking forward to the pancake lenses, better chip and higher resolution. However, it will cost $150-$200 more in Europe, which is a bitter pill to swallow.
Ouch. Is that a common markup where you live?

Thank you very much, I really appreciate that. More to come!
I have the og htc vive but I hate the wires and cords and base stations so I don’t set it up often. Was looking forward to airplay from my new vr pc. Do you think it will be worth getting the quest 3 for that? I did not like the screen door effect and blurry text in vice it was a deal breaker for me.
I think if you hated the wires, Quest 3 will be a step in the right direction for you. I haven't heard of any screen door on any other pancake lens headsets.
Hello, quick question.
I have Q2 and I only use it with my PC. I never use standalone. In this case, is it worth the update? Since I am using it with PC all the time maybe new processor is not important upgrade for me but what about rest?
You will 100% see a visual upgrade using pancake lenses, even on PCVR. My experience using a Pico 4 recently was eye opening (pun intended).
Beyond that, if you’re playing wirelessly and have a 6 or 6E router, that’s going to significantly help with any latency you’re experiencing. If you don’t and you’re on a 5GHz band, it’s really down to the lenses.
I can’t say that’s worth $500+ by itself. If possible, find a place doing demos and see for yourself.
I'm definitely getting the quest 3, mostly because I still have a launch quest 2 and its kinda on its last legs. It's battery life limits my play to about an hour or an hour and a half unless it's plugged into my pc. My controllers also have drift and for the money i could use to buy new ones i could just use to get a quest 3. Also id love the power upgrade, I don't use my quest much standalone but when i do its painfully noticeable and id like that boost even if its small
I’m in the exact same boat. Drift, bad battery, 64gb, everything. Can’t wait for the upgrade.
I myself am leaning towards "yes". I've started to get into VRChat and Rec Room (mostly Rec Room) and while they're still plenty playable, the framerate drops down to what feels like 20 very consistently.
Some of that may be server overload, which a new headset won’t help much with.
Thanks for watching!
I have unfortunately been living under a rock, and only recently found out about the Quest 2. I did NOT have any idea you could do so much... I will purchase a used Quest 2 and then buy a Quest 3 as soon as it comes out. It look absolutely amazing!
At this point I’d wait. You’re less than a month from Quest 3.
I’m a PC user still rocking the OG Rift CV1. I’m not as concerned with standalone performance as I am with screen quality. I considered upgrading to the Quest 2, but I couldn’t justify spending another $300-400 for meager improvements over the previous generations. I especially didn’t like how they ditched OLED for LCD panels. The quest 3 seems to be on par with the Pro and in some regards even better, so I’ll be picking it up on day. I’m curious to see whether the improvements in lens technology can make up for the LCD screen.
I think the pancake lenses will make a huge difference along with nearly double the resolution. You will miss the deep blacks, not gonna lie.
Thanks for watching.
Is this headset worth it if you already have a quest 2 and only use it for full body vrc, and beatsaber
My controllers got stick drift on both and my strap is broken completely i made a DIY strap but other rhen that it runs completely fine
My pupil distance is 55m which is below average and i heard the quest 3 is suitable dor 53mm because of the oancake lenses.
One last thing how would it affect pcvr would it look better more crisp more frames? (Aka how will vrchat look compared to the quest 2)
Your PCVR experience can absolutely be improved with Quest 3. The lenses are better (I have a Pico 4 and the clarity diff is huge) and the stronger chip should make for better latency.
You have to decide for yourself if that’s worth $500, but there aren’t many headset cheaper. My Quest 2 controllers are drifting BADLY so I’m ready to retire them.
Thanks for watching! 😊
Hey question. I just bought a Quest 2 as my first vr headset and was incredibly disappointed by the quality of the graphics. Is it worth getting a 3 or should I wait until the tech improves? I don't want to shell out again for something that's still going to look blurry.
Games will absolutely look better on Quest 3 due to better lenses, but as far as pure graphics, PCVR (with your Quest 2) is going to be your best route (if you have a mid to high tier PC). Or PSVR2 ($50 more than a Quest 3) if you have a PS5 already.
Also, the Quest 2 has a notoriously small sweet spot (the ideal headset and eye position) in part due to the fresnel lenses, so some of your blurriness may be due to that.
Quest 3 will be significantly more powerful than the 2, but we won’t see the upper limits with Quest 3 exclusive content for upwards of a year.
I had a Oculas Go that i hadn't touched in years, but I got a quest 3 now, Red Matter 2 looks amazing on it.
Vertical Robot are magicians.
What if I'm still with the quest 1 (more than 4 years) should I upgrade? 🤔🤔🤔🤔
Unless you’re using it for PCVR, you’re rapidly losing game support.
The biggest tradeoff will be in the lenses, giving up OLED for resolution, pancake lenses and a slightly larger FOV.
Is it suggested to upgrade if I just use it to play VRCHAT streaming it from my pc?
The lenses will be considerably better and it's been confirmed to work with Wifi 6E, so if you're using AirLink to connect to your PC, your overall experience will be better (assume you have a compatible router).
I can't say if that's worth $500 though.
Thanks for watching!
sold my quest 2 like 9 months ago sadly and always wanted to get it again. Can't wait for this headset. So HYPED
Me too!
@@liveopenmike bought 32 games on steam and havent played them all. gotta also finish resident evil 4 vr. only play 30 minutes of it. fruit ninja and fallout was an interesting game. definately want to play them again
@@animeremastered5631You've got a good backlog to start with then!
You helped me decide which one to get. Thank you.
Glad I could help!
I’m still looking for something to replace my valve index. I want what the index offers me for racing games, but also a very few shooting games, then the next thing is pass through and mac support so I can work on Mac but also have text readable and not all janky. Maybe the quest pro 2 will work for me. But going to have a look at the quest 3 specs to see if it will work. Current limitation when working in vr is the screen resolution.
Quest 3 will have a higher resolution, but you will be sacrificing field of view coming from the Index. For sim gamers (flight, racing), that's been an understandable dealbreaker.
Thank you for watching!
I only own an original quest that doesn't really work any more. should I go for quest 2 now or wait for quest 3?
If you can afford the price difference and have the patience, I would wait.
Is there a way to upgrade the android version of the quest, i think the quest 2 runs on andriod 10 so would there be a way to upgrade to android 11 or 12
Nope that's handled by Meta and I want to say they moved to 11 last year? There was some ADB stuff with audio forwarding I couldn't do until they updated to a new Android version last year.
I was thinking about selling my Quest 2… but then I’m not sure what I’m going to do after that. Maybe Bigscreen Beyond?
I considered the Beyond, but (a) losing access to the Quest library and (b) I don’t own base stations or controllers, so that adds to my cost. At least $1,500 for everything. 😖
I’m really don’t know what to do atm, I really wanna upgrade my pc well get new set that will be my last and it is going to cost abit but however I really really like playing vr too, it’s either get quest 3 now or upgrade pc later or do pc then wait for quest 3?
If you already have a VR headset that still works well enough, I would do the PC upgrade first. Better PCVR to be had with a better PC than a better headset. You can play games on higher settings and get more performance.
Hey, should I buy 2 or 3 version if I play only PC VR games?
Depends on your budget. Quest 3 is experiencing some sort of battery issue right now, so right NOW Quest 2 is the better buy, but the 3 has vastly superior lenses and 120Hz refresh rate.
Long term I’d go Quest 3.
So glad I was apart of that vote LoL
But seriously, I have been interested in VR as a whole for 6 years now but still never had the money or the means to buy any VR headset so now I put my foot down and so now I have enough money to get the Quest 3 which in terms of price is a good middle in the market, absolutely a no brainer for me. I’m getting it!
Welcome to the club! Excited to see how you enjoy it. PLEASE watch my video about good starter games. The wrong game will make you ill in a matter of minutes.
@@liveopenmike Yeah no don’t worry I’ve already watched it 😉
I had a rift S and after like 3 months of use I sold it because it was super uncomfortable and it just hurt on my nose to keep playing as much as I wanted to, I just would not keep going. Ever since I've been trying to get back into it and thought, maybe I'll get the Quest 2 or just wait for the next one. Now here I am waiting for the Quest 3, now I'm a college student and it would be a hit to get this VR head set BUT LIKE SCREW IT MAN I NEED A TASTE OF IT!!! Hopefully its more comfortable than that damn Rift S, but I'm looking forward to it.
I have a Rift S as well and I feel like it was made for one head shape, if that makes sense. I have a large forehead, so it's hard to get the headset low enough to get in the sweet spot.
I'm definitely getting the Quest 3, the main reason being that the joysticks of both of my controllers have degraded pretty badly in quality. That has made it way harder to play games that involve the use of a joystick for movement. So instead of buying two new expensive controllers right now, it is a better decision to wait for the Quest 3 to come out and buy the new headset along with new controllers in one purchase. The second biggest reason is that I enjoy VR and would definitely love to get the Quest 3!
Right there with you. My controllers have gotten bad. I keep having to increase the dead zone to be able to play, which makes it impossible to run in games where movement speed is determined by how far up the controller is pressed.
@@liveopenmike That is a very good point about the movement speed being controlled by how much you push on the joysticks, and I have definitely felt that too, ending up only able to move at the fastest speed because I set the deadzone to its biggest size. But another thing that has affected me more is that my left joystick becomes unresponsive while I’m turning it around. It’s kinda hard to explain, but that means that, in game, I slow down for a second and stop sprinting when I try to walk to the side. I just really hope that the new controllers for the Quest 3 don’t degrade or at least degrade slower than the Quest 2 controllers. I really don’t want to spend 70 something dollars every few months just to replace one of my controllers!
I have a video on how to fix drift easily
@@darkdiamondd I’ve recalibrated, adjusted the dead zone, and used contact cleaner all multiple times. If your video covers anything other than that, I’d love to check it out.
@@darkdiamondd Nah, it’s not just drift. I doubt any video or tutorial could fix it.
I already have games on my quest 2 I payed for, if I switch, will I still have them?
Yes, your games are tied to your account, not your headset. They will all transfer over.
Would it be possible to join pc vr worlds on vrchat without a pc on the meta quest 3
I honestly don’t know enough about how VR chat created worlds work to accurately answer this question. Sorry 😖
I have the quest 2 and plan on staying. I love it and am really enjoying playing. I don't see the need to upgrade when I have something that is awesome already. I'm thinking that the future is looking great for VR and the next gen after Q3 will be even better and I'm okay waiting.
Makes sense. Thanks for watching! ☺️
the problem is I will buy quest 2 after 10 days or should I buy the quest 3 but the problem I’m not taking a risk because I can only buy one thing in summer and I finish summer in September and the shipping from America to my country takes 1 month and I only buy from retail.and it could be out of stock like a snap so please help me with my decision
I don't think stock will be an issue at all if you're ordering online. It's more a matter of how patient you're willing to be. With that shipping, you likely don't see your Quest 3 until November.
Thanks for watching!
Im gonna pick up my first ever VR Quest 3 but i also have a pretty beafy pc should i buy the games on steam vr or buy them on the quest 3
If you have a beefy PC, PCVR's still going to be the better experience. Not all Quest games are getting Quest 3 enhancements, so visually PCVR will still look better.
@@liveopenmike Thanks also will 128gb be enough
@@BionicAZEN If you plan on buying most games on Steam, 128 should be fine. You'd only need the space for the Meta exclusives. If you plan on doing a lot of standalone game, go with 512.
I play VR Chat on a weekly basis (usually a little bit more than once a week) and I just use a quest 2. I'd love a PC only headset, but given my current situation I need inside out tracking, and there's no solution that tops the quest pro controllers in that. But I didnt go all out for a quest pro because its expensive and not a great bang for your buck, from what I hear. Comfort is a big priority. And it looks like quest 3 ticks all the boxes for an upgrade.
Yeah a Pro JUST for VR Chat would be overkill unless you really want the additional tracking.
Hell yeah this is the biggest upgrade in specs in VR from one Gen to another… ever. More than the rift to the rift s or quest to the quest 2. Can’t wait for the 3!
Thanks for watching! Never got the chance to try the original Rift, but I’ve heard stories. I do have a Rift S.
I'm getting the Quest 3, but waiting for a sale. The Quest 2 is great for now.
Makes perfect sense.
Is it better for me to stay with the quest 2 and skip the 3rd and wait till the forth?
Quest 2 will be discontinued long before Quest 4 is out and I doubt it retains game support that long, so it depends on how patient you are. I don't think we even hear anything about a Quest 4 until 2025. Probably get a new Pro headset before that.
Thanks for watching!

Thanks mate, this was really helpful
Glad to hear it!
I wanted to get into Vr for a while now, I don’t have a headset yet. Is it smarter to wait for the quest 3 or should I go for quest 2 to see if I enjoy it?
I’d say Quest 3 as it should be more comfortable out of the box and better visuals.
Just buy it from a place with a good return policy (30-60 days) and watch my video on Good Starter Games. Playing the wrong game WILL get you sick and make for a bad experience.
started with original psvr and that was mindblowing at the time. got a quest 2 in april and that made the psvr look like dog poo. quest 2 is going to be supported for awhile and it's already been beefed up since release (hand tracking, 120hz, recently got a 20% processor speed bump). only issues are the cheap helmet strap, lenses, and battery life (like 2 hours). it's so cheap though. big value and not a big loss if it makes you sick or whatever. and if you really like it, you can get a good pc to connect that opens up a whole other realm of value.
@@originalMP3com247 It feels like 2hrs of battery life is the standard for standalone. Pico 4, Quest Pro, XR Elite, and Quest 3 all have around that time.
Everything i own has oled, tv, laptop phone... I cant go to led for vr
Fair enough. We all have our dealbreakers. Thanks for watching!
Okay, so I have a problem, I have already experieced vr (playstation 4 vr) and thinking of buying one for myself, but I don't know which quest model to buy. I don't want any issues with ending of support in meta 2 either, but meta 3 is a bit pricy. So please give an opinion
Quest 2 will lose support faster than Quest 3. That's just the nature of technology turnover. Same thing happens with consoles. Sony's not putting out PS3 games anymore.
If you've already used VR and enjoy it, then I would go Quest 3 so you're more future proof. Yes, it's more money, but you will get more time and new game support out of it than Quest 2.
@@liveopenmike Thanks for responding fast, but how about air link thingy? I heard quest 2 had some problems with it, so it would be nice if I woudn't need mess with cables on quest 3

@@mataskumetis7054 Air Link is software. It’s dependent on your router. Quest 2 only goes up to 5GHz. Quest 3 can go to 6E for a better experience, but if Air Link is legit busted (I personally haven’t had any issues with it), that has to be fixed by Meta.
Another fantastic and polished video, Mike.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I want this to be my first vr headset but i also wanna play it with my pc, can i do this with the quest 3? And should i get it?
Yes, absolutely! You'll need a bare minimum a RTX 1650 or higher (you really want to be in 20xx series) and at least 16GB of RAM. Then you just need Virtual Desktop ($20) or the Oculus PC app to get set up. It'll be part of my Quest 3 setup guide when the headset releases.
@@liveopenmike alrighty thanks so much
@@Wafuo You're welcome! Thanks for watching.
I play VR a lot and only have a Rift CV1, definately going to buy the quest 3
Thx for watching!
Hi i am looking for a vr headset and it's going to be my first experience. I dont know which one to choose. i will mainly use it for pcvr with a link cable. And since taxes are very high in the country I live in, Quest 3 will be $1000 here (for the base version)
Ouch. $1k is steep. Are Pico 4 or DPVR E4 available in your country and if so are they cheaper? I'd take either of those over a Quest 2 as a pure PCVR headset.
@@liveopenmike both of them are available but pico 4 is 750 and DPVR E4 is 1545 dollars
@@liveopenmike is quest 2 still good?
what games tho bro, i love vr but it needs more development before i upgrade to the Q3
Great question and there's a debate on whether or not Quest 3 should get exclusives right away. I'm making a video that should be up within a week (my opinion on the subject).
Does anyone know what the future of the Oculus Rift is? Are they discontinuing it or is there an new one coming out soon or maybe the Quest Series is all there will be?
Discontinued. Meta is out of the PCVR business. Shame as I like my Rift S, but I guess the profit wasn’t there.
Thanks for watching!
@@liveopenmike Thanks a ton for responding. Haven't checked in on VR since I purchased my Oculus Rift S which I love as well.
I have quest 1 im in canada should i get quest 2 cuz idk please tell mee
As a standalone, Quest 1 is basically dead. Rapidly losing game support and it won’t get anymore software updates. For PCVR, it’s still fine, but the resolution is lower than 2 and much lower than 3. I would upgrade.
great video. after watching i think i’ve decided i will wait until it goes on sale or at least a couple months for a big came to release on it.
Glad the review was helpful. Thanks for watching!
I'm using my Q2 for PCVR right now, but I'm looking to upgrade either to a Quest 3 or to a PSVR2, and I'm having a really hard time deciding. It's either the freedom of PC (modding and library of games) or the exclusives, adaptive triggers & haptic feedback and lack of troubleshooting of PSVR2, and I don't know which one I prefer
Do you want an open or closed ecosystem? That’s really what you’re picking between.
i wish they make like a rift s 2 i feel like that will be good for people thats in the middle of how much they what to spend with pc since you can build one today for a good price
Yeah I think that ship has sailed with Meta.
They put a lot into PCVR (look how many Rift exclusive games they funded) without much return on investment.
I own a Rift S and still use it to this day.
My interest would be architecture software. A place where I can design my home.
I honestly don't know if an app like that (a high quality one, not something cartoony) exists...
I do think VR should be expanding into productivity horizons with software. That's been a lacking feature for years.
Thanks for watching!
First of all I'm waiting for the update V55 to come to the Quest2 and see what the performanceboost will bring. But I'm waiting almost already a year for the Quest3 to come to the market. In order to enjoy the benefits of pancake lenses I bought the Pico4 last year in november. Now the Pico4 is my main headset for PCVR gaming. The Quest2 is nearly only used for Holofit and for Beatsaber. I think the Quest3 might change that...
Pico 4's not been an option here in North America without importing it and jumping through hoops to get the native. I've wondered how well it would've done in this market, particularly with some of Meta's struggles lately with software.
Having said that I demoed a Pico 3 and WOOF, so Pico wasn't high on my list.
I might get a Pico 4 soon through 'alternative' means just for the collection. Starting to see them sell for cheap on the secondary market.
Check for updates. I have been on V55 for about a week now.
@douglasrowland9986 This morning I got the v55 update. Don't notice any difference so far.
I got my quest 2 and a bunch of modifications like extended battery, built in headphones, comfort strap, rechargeable controller, way better face pad, which costed around $480, I don’t wanna spend like $700 for faster running speed which isn’t that important actually, and less storage. As long as into the radius and Pavlov still work, imma keep my quest 2
Makes sense.
So what if i had a rift s is it worth it to wait until the quest 3 comes out or just buy a quest 2?
For PCVR? Quest 3. You’re going to take a hit on FOV with either Quest headset, but higher resolution, native refresh rate, and pancake lenses.
Thanks for watching!
@liveopenmike how bad is the fov compared to the rift s? I probably could get over that just depends on how much it hampers the experience
Roughly Quest 2’s, so about 100.
@liveopenmike oh okay that's not bad will probably pick up the quest 3 just hope it comes out shortly
Sorry for asking, I don't know the tax rules where you are from, but if you are gonna purchase it to use it in your content creation aka work, can't you write off some of the taxes?
No problem, it's a good question not enough people talk about. The short version is it depends on how much money I make in a year and what percentage of the Quest 3 is used for business vs personal.
in the States, you have to pay taxes on any income above $600. I've already made that much this year, so I'll be claiming the expense of my PC, which I only use for my job and Live Open Mike stuff, any games I bought for livestreams, and a portion of my Quest 3 purchase, since probably 80% of my time with it will be content related.
It gets complicated, so I have a great tax person at H&R Block who helps me. This year if I make a certain amount, I'm probably going to set up a LLC so I am more protected taxwise.
@@liveopenmike Interesting info. Good you are able to get a little out of it then :)
You know that they made a quest controller with none of the rings so I don’t see why I should upgrade just to play a vision of my room and just get stuck with it, instead I can just login and then I see the games and I go directly or something….
Given the launch game status, this is a totally reasonable take. It's a top tier headset desperately in need of software to maximize its potential. I'll detail that in my review video coming next week. I didn't get an early review unit like other channels, so I needed a week with it before making that video.
I was actually thinking about getting a quest 2 today, should I wait and get the 3?
If you can afford the extra money, I would recommend waiting. Unless you’re getting a great deal on a used Quest 2.
My birthday is september but the quest 3 is coming in october. should i get the quest 2 or wait for 3?
First, happy early birthday! If it's a gift, go for the 3. Get the latest and greatest (budget depending, obviously).
@@liveopenmike Thank you!! And i will try getting the 3 but if my budget is low i will get the quest 2 and maybe get the quest 4 or 3 once its done being supported.
They better continue quest 2 support for a LONG time, especially knowing most people can't afford to upgrade. I couldn't even afford to buy the quest 2 i had to have help.. so that would break me. :'(
I think it winds down in 2025 in terms of active game development, which would be a six year life with well over 600 games available. Not too shabby.
A very good point, we need to be rational. If possible, you can test the PC experience of both, plug in the official more than 100 cable.
That’s the plan. I don’t expect that experience to be vastly different on both. I unfortunately do not have Wifi 6E, so I cannot test that. ☹️
The main diff will be thru the lenses.
Thank you, I want to compare through plug-in streaming, not wireless streaming, so I use WIFI6@@liveopenmike
@@yohanswet3770 Sorry, I misunderstood. I do have a Link cable, so I will be testing this, but generally my cable experience has been rock solid, so I expect the same with Quest 3.
So I just searched when the quest 3 comes our and it comes out on my bday. Holy s**t that's amazing 😂😂😂
They announced an actual release date. I know Connect is 9/27, but that’s likely just the preorder start date.
@liveopenmike oh. Thats a shame then. I'll still probably be pre ordering it
It's almost worth upgrading just for the lens. It's a shame it doesn't have local dimming though. It's still going to be a bog standard LCD panel with greys instead of blacks.
Wouldn't surprise me if Meta were testing local dimming on these panels for a future update.
Quest 2 has had a ton of updates since initial release, so the Quest 3 we're getting in a couple of months won't be the same a year or two from now.
@@liveopenmike The display panel has to be mini LED for local dimming to ever work and I doubt they will put that in as it's expensive. So I'm probably going to stick with my Quest Pro as it has local dimming. Hope I'm wrong though and they put it in. Instant upgrade for me if they have that feature.
@@dtz1000 That's a bummer. Not a dealbreaker, but a bummer for sure.
Yo I have a psvr2 & yeah the motion sickness VR got me to stop playing. But poker VR got me playing for three days straight now!!
Pokerstars VR was one of my mains for months.
What game got you sick?
The 500 is for the people that are impressed with the 300 dollar version . Quest 2 be there for the 300 price and when bleed out the quest 3 lite will replace it on shelf as the 300 price point option .
300 price point the most important thing meta doing to gain mass adoption . I agree with everything ya said …. Save for the idea that 300 price tag was a mistake .
You supposed to be the one that understands it the most living “ paycheck to paycheck “ like me .
That gateway drug has to be there and that price tag is what makes it a gateway drug ..
Very well done and good points plus well informed .
That price tag important though , 300 has to remain as the entry . The reg quest 3 is more of an upgrade past entry point and on way to pcvr .
It was a mistake from a price perception standpoint and handcuffs them to the ‘budget’ tier, which is a part of why Quest Pro failed.
I’m still not convinced Quest 3 lite is coming as I don’t see what further compromises get the price down. This is part of why I think Quest 2 stays on the market a good long while. Thanks for watching!
Really I want to know which is better, Quest 3 or Quest Pro
Quest Pro has face & eye tracking and slightly better lens. Quest 3 is better (on paper) in any other measurement.
Does the meta quest 3 have the same games as the meta quest 2?
Yes! Same library with dozens of games having Quest 3 enhancements already (visuals and/or mixed reality modes).
I’m gonna buy it cuz my um quest 2 is like messed up like it can’t charge over90
Mine won’t go over 97.
I think I will sell my oculus quest 2 and buy an META quest 3 but I am sad because im leaving oculus. Oculus is a lot to me and if I sell my oculus quest 2 then oculus is gone and now its meta. That saddens me so I don’t know. Anyways I think I’ll sell it because it has sunburn damage so how much should I sell it for?
I bought one like new for $200, so if it's damaged, definitely under that number, even if it's just cosmetic.
Very nicely done .
Thanks for watching!
I have a rift S that I still use, I am looking into the quest 3 because I am way past due for an update ^^;
I still have my Rift S, but I need a replacement cable for it.
my poor war torn quest 2 is on its last hinge so the upgrade would be nice
Same. My controllers are struggling.
Coming from my og HTC Vive, its a goddamn no brainer for me
Oof. Props for keeping the headset running that long.
if i can upgrade it through my headset than NO i would like to do it but i have quite some problems those being stick drift that i had for a year and a HALF
Yikes. I had to replace my left controller two years ago and now both of my controllers are having issues. I had to increase the dead zone to make them usable again.
I wish you had displayed the name of each game as they were shown. Some of them looked great but I don't know what they are called.
I’ve thought about that, but wasn’t sure if I wasn’t specifically doing a gaming list video if anyone cared to know.
Drop a timestamp(s) and I’m happy to tell you.
I have the quest 1 and still play on it… Definitely will buy quest 3
I’m really curious to get your thoughts on how much of an upgrade it is?
I really like the quest but I get crazy motion sickness so if the quest 3 don’t have way better ipd options I’m not getting it at all. I need they to actually care about people like me
It’ll be a wheel for more precise IPD adjustments than that crappy 3 tier IPD options on quest 2.
Really I want a VR headset for 3D modelling and maybe other design software. I have a Quest 2 which I bought after a design channel reviewed the Meta Quest Pro for design functions as I wanted to experiment. I’m currently a Mac user so I’m doing to wait until Apple release their own goggles to see if it’s worth either getting Apple VR or upgrading to a better Meta headset.
Personally I think Apple Vision Pro is going to integrate better with your other hardware and if you’re doing modeling, I’m going to assume you’d want the best lenses possible.
Apple is, right now, not a good call if you plan on any VR gaming at all, but you already have the Quest 2 to serve that function.
Personally I would hold for reviews as you indicated. Thanks for watching. ☺️
What's the game at 4:15? Thank you!
Lies Beneath. An excellent comic book styled horror adventure game.
I play VR on and off, because im really busy , and it is kinda inconvenient to play because the main game i play (Blades & Sorcery Nomad) is very physical, so i have punched many hard things.
If you're only playing one game, I don't think the upgrade is worth it unless you're playing it a ton, which you indicate you're not. I'd advise to stay put and wait for sales later.
@@liveopenmike I probably will. I do play other games, like into the radius, but B&S is the most performance heavy
I only want for 3d movies should i upgrade?
The only thing you're gaining is a 30% bump in resolution. If you're happy with the Quest 2 video quality, I would say no.
Wher do i get free 3d movies to download
@@dawitassefa8575 Honestly, don't know. Sorry.
Your so close to 1k subs!!!
😭
People commenting about the FOV being lower or no different are oblivious. I own a Quest 2, 3, and the valve index, and in my experience, the FOV is noticibly larger. When i hold the quest 2 next to the 3, I immeaditly see the lenses are larger in the quest 3 and are more comparable in size and fov to the valve index. To conclude, quest 3 feels a lot less like binoculars than quest 2.
I agree. I’m baffled Bosworth said there was no change. I DID put the face mask adjuster all the way back and it was right at Quest 2 levels then.
what's the game at 2:00 called? It looks funny
That is Zenith.
I would love to get more in depth into vr but i physically can’t due to money problems i want a PC and all that but can’t buy it and i don’t want to have to pay back interest on it with a credit card
Makes sense. I went to VR arcades for a year until I put back $300 to get a Quest 2. I was standalone only for a year before I bought my PC, so my stuff came in steps.
You don't have to start with a PC right away. That's the great thing Quest 2 has done for the ecosystem. A more budget friendly entry point.
@@liveopenmike thanks for the advice
Great video ⚡️‼️
Thanks!
I just want better resolution and more field of view. Other than that I love my quest 2 but would happily upgrade if my needs are met.
Well you're getting half of your wishlist. Res will be over 2k per eye, a hair under 30% more, but FOV would be roughly the same. This was confirmed by Meta's Andrew Bosworth. I covered it in this video if you're interested: th-cam.com/video/zIcchp9FkrQ/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for watching!
Desax on TH-cam did the tech analysis on. What graphics we can expect on quest 3 and it would be a Nintendo switch docked. So based on this I would live to play metroid or crisis type graphics in VR So I'm auto buying it
I watched Dee’s video. Frankly the Quest 2 can do that (I compared the specs) IF VR could run at 30fps like the Switch gets away with. It of course can’t.
I just hope devs are working to take advantage of it so we don’t have to wait years to see the full potential of the headset. Thanks for watching!
