I strongly recommend that you cover entire inner floor of coop with hardware cloth then the bedding. It will amaze you how deep and far raccoons and snakes can dig to get under and into coop.

Thanks for the suggestion. But this way has worked well for us for the past several years and I also like to rake out the compost they make so it'd be hard to do that with mesh under the coop.

I would get a whole different area for ducks. I tried having mine together but they're way too messy. I had to clean the coop way more often. They also can't use a nipple drinker they have to be able to submerge their bills and they splash water everywhere. My chickens weren't happy and really the ducks weren't either. I made them their own duck house and a pool with lots of space

I've been going back and forth on this too! We are planning on getting muscovies which are a perching duck so at least that's something more similar to chickens. As far as the waterer goes that was my main dilemma but I finally found a solution that will work for both, more to come! And hopefully when they are free-ranging for the majority of the day everyone will be happy but let's see. Thanks for watching!

How do you not end up getting eaten alive by mosquitoes? Started working on my garden again, and I'm getting ruined unless I work super early in the morning when it's cool outside.
