What DW did was bad by eating big green, but what her mother did was far worse when she decided to tell everyone in Elwood City about DW's embarrassing moment.
Do the writers really expect us to believe that DW'S reaction to eating a poisoned chip would be silence? I think it be more like, "MOM! Arthur poisoned me with a green potato chip!" Also, Mrs. Read sucks in this episode, (well, more than usual.) Publicly shaming your own kid by broadcasting their embarrassment is plan wrong, even for DW, who absolutely deserves it.
Ikr? If I were DW's age and I overhead what Arthur said about green potato chips being poisonous I would run crying and screaming to Mom! As for what Mrs. Read did to DW in the follow-up episode I've seen parents humiliate their children on Tiktok or TH-cam or Facebook all the time!
People still do that to their kids. They post videos of their kids crying over serious shit or even just doing sexual dances cuz they think it's cute, but it's not cute. It's embarrassing to expose your child like that so other people can laugh or so creeps can enjoy the videos in gross ways. I'm not ever putting my kids on the internet, not until they are teens who can make better choices than a child.
Maybe she didn't want to tell her parents that she ate it right away because she figured by them or Arthur. She could've just asked her parents if green potato chips are poisonous before going to sleep, letting them take her fear away.

It just sounds like Mrs. Read was just being thoughtlessly funny to everyone in Elwood City, without thinking about how DW would feel of being humiliated in public, and the consequences of Arthur getting blamed by his bratty little sister without getting any good evidence whatsoever! Doesn’t Jane and David Read have any damn idea or any common sense on how to raise their kids, or even have some better understanding towards them?! also it really must have been a slow news day if a story about a 4 year old thinking she'd been poisoned ended up in the _newspaper,_ but also tbf elwood seems like a place where nothing happens so i'd believe it
Does anyone else think that it's odd that DW was only 5 years old for a small handful of episodes, but then went back to being 4 later? As for what episode that I would like to see you cover the one in which DW dreads celebrating her 5th birthday. Only for Arthur to help her remember some of the good times she had when she was still 4.
Considering one of the recent episodes claimed that Spanky died “a few months ago” even though it happened way back in season 2, I’d say Arthur’s lore is messed up enough as is
one thing that baffled me about this episode is why would a newspaper publish a story about d.w eating a green chip anyways. must be a slow news day if that made the front page. sorry kids say and do crazy stuff, my nephew refused to eat broccoli when he was little thinking they were little trees and if he ate one the broccoli would grow inside him turning him into a tree. that never made it into the papers. nor was he teased about it, people just said how cute and moved on. the only thing i liked about this episode was binky and d.w seemed to make good friends, d.w is a brat but can be okay sometimes. keep up the good work
To be fair, he had three goals, but the Brain told him that the first two were unrealistic. Had Brain been there at the Sugarbowl that day he would've explained to Arthur and Francine how unrealistic their goals were.
The second rate University that they go to is Elmwood Elementary. A school where Mr. Ratburn is so fixed on Reed-ing between the lines of Arthur's dad that he neglects to teach his students basic astronomy and physics!🤣
DW just can't move on (snowball, Mary Moo Cow, Crazy Bus, and to a much lesser degree, Tina the Talking Tabby) and Mrs. Jane Read never learned that thing about tattletales. Besides, DW deserved to be the Joke of the Day, the Week, the Month, the Year, etc. for eating that green potato chip and gaslighting her imaginary friend, Nadine Thanks for bringing this double-feature into one big episode! P.S. And by the way, 0:19 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
There’s an episode from a later season that indicates Nadine is real, but only DW can see her. A Pal and Kate episode shows Nadine talking to them and revealing The Tibble T******s and the neighbor Vicita also have imaginary friends. Nadine claims the world of Imaginary Friends is in trouble and needs the help of a baby and a dog. I’m not lying that’s a real episode.
The montage in the first episode always confused me as a child, but I eventually realized that this episode doesn't take place over the course of just a few days. It takes place well over the course of a year. It's never really mentioned or confirmed, but I think there's enough there for an explanation. Both DW and Binky thought they had only a few days left to live, and never questioned why they were still alive after all that time passed. It's just really funny to my lol
I was confused by it, too! I thought it was a one year time span because of the different seasons that passed during the montage. Then, when DW claimed they did it all in one day, I was like, "How can that be so?!"
I'm genuinely wondering how many times she blamed arthur for the snowball event. Has public education failed her that bad that she doesn't know the basics of thermodynamics let alone the water cycle?
@@jasperjazzie Actually, before the finale, there's an episode called, "All Will Be Revealed." where Bud and Buster revisit and uncover the truth about what happened to the snowball. It ends with it being returned and DW finding it. No apology to Arthur though.
The 2nd part to me felt like retribution for all the times DW didn’t let it go about things that happened in previous episodes (hell she brought up things that wasn’t even Arthur’s fault from previous episodes in that episode) it just proves that she can dish out the shame and guilt, but when it’s her time to get it, she now has a holier than thou attitude
What if Arthur's Mom couldn't actively punish DW to her face, so exposing DW to the press was her only way to get back at her. Either she's just as much of a pshyco as DW, or she felt terrible for Arthur and humiliated DW in Arthur's honor.
I love it for the fact that they learned to live life to the fullest because you never know when it would be your last day on Earth, green potato chips, or not. Also, if you want to watch Christmas movies when it's not the holiday season, do it! I listen to "Merry Christmas Everybody" by Slade all year round and don't care what others think!
Ellwood City is north of Pittsburgh, PA. As a native of the greater Pittsburgh area, I can confirm that all four seasons in one day is an accurate portrayal of the weather.
I hate DW right along there with you but what her mom did was wrong. Gossiping about your kids is the precursor to them cutting you off when they get older.

Hi Matt! Great video as always. I keep suggesting this one, but you should definitely cover the episode Best Enemies. In it, DW meets another brat named WD. I think you'd have a field day with it
The fun thing about the "green potato chips are poisonous thing" is that it has a slight basis in reality. The green parts of potatoes CAN be poisonous. They contain solanine. It takes a fair amount of green potato to make you sick, though, let alone kill you, and the amount of solanine in green chips is negligible.
There is nothing wrong with a boy taking ballet. Lots of pro wrestlers took ballet. It's great for strengthening their legs and increasing flexability.
I remember as a kid I once tried to do Arthur & Buster's organizing potato chips system on one bag. It was not as interesting as the show tried to make it look
4:15 Interesting fact, Arthur DIDN'T actually confess to lying to DW. These were his exact words: "You DID eat my big green potato chip! And you THOUGHT you were poisoned, didn't you?" Okay, so Arthur either has self-serving memory or short-term memory loss. Even though literally the next episode has him reading off his mom's article about how HE deceived DW with this lame prank.
I tend to remember things different as a kid. For whatever reason instead of calling it big green, I always thought they simply referred to it as "The green chip" with this dramatic echo or something.
you know it's actually really sweet is that Binky's friends were really supportive of him taking ballet. I totally expected them to be the exact opposite.
If Mr. Ratburn wasn’t constantly handing out essays and having secret get aways at the the bake and sip with Mr Read she would have known more about Saturn also Arthur perfectionism is the reason I put my candy and chips in order at my big age 😂
I remember in 2011, my old man tried to get me to take a ballet class. Of course being a teen in 2011, I thought it was a “sissy” or “gay” thing. I didn’t know that male ballet dancers are actually badass. Wish I’d taken it, it would’ve been fun!
That was the same reason that Binky was afraid to take ballet until the green potato chip scenario. He didn't want his peers to think he was a sissy. When he thought he was dying he just didn't care anymore what his friends thought. I was amazed at how supportive his friends were when they saw him perform at his ballet recital!
They mainly showed some children in the segment "And Now A Word From Us Kids" touring a potato chip factory. One kid did ask about the green potato chips and the adult explained to him about it.
Fun fact: Green potatoes contain a toxic alkaloid known as solanine, so DW actually *did* eat a poisonous chip (although one was clearly not enough to kill her)!
Happy New Year Matt!! Hope you have a great year!! I'm glad you talked about the green chip episodes. When I saw this when I was younger, I didn't feel bad for DW. As an adult, I still feel the same way. After getting away with so much, I felt this was karma for DW. Don't get me wrong, it's not right for anyone to feel embarassed, but at the same time, DW never got consequences for her past behavior so it's hard to feel bad for her. I fully agree about FU Mrs. Read. What parent would purposely tell everyone about something that embarassed their kid without thinking about their feelings. Then again, DW does the same thing to Arthur. She annoys and makes him look bad without thinking about his feelings, so I guess like mother like daughter. I think what would've made the ending better would be if DW had an enlightening moment and realized that been humiliated doesn't feel good and she realizes she does this to Arthur and decides to change her ways. Wishful thinking. Still great episode Matt. Looking forward to next. FU DW. Fu Mrs. Read 👍👍👍
What if Mr. & Mrs. Read were sent to court for the negligence to both Arthur and DW for their bad parenting? Would they get all *defensive* and start giving out excuses of their actions?
Where I live there only seems to be kids' Karate lessons. My coworker's son and daughter are both in the class they run nearby. I think it'd be neat if there was a ballet class on offer here, but the closest thing we have locally is Irish stepdancing. Having men in ballet is more encouraged and useful (because of the lifts during routines) than in stepdancing (which is pretty much all legwork and is rather focused on pretty dresses anyway). So I'm not sure how your theory about modern after school activities shakes out. I just hope no one gets bullied tbh :'y
Binky really believed the word of 1. A preschooler and 2. Someone who can't fact check, even though I love that he likes dances, the boy is wrong for not asking Arthur about it first
Didn't expect the new season to start this early. Much like "D.W.'s Baby" (Season 1 Episode 11B), it often seems like both of these stories could have been one long episode, even though two-part episodes (apart from specials) didn't first appear until midway through the show's seventh season in October 2002. The in-universe show "You do the Most Embarrassing Things" is a spoof of "Kids Say the Darnedest Things", though I didn't know that when I originally saw this episode as a kid. And not to mention that clips from both of these segments have been frequently used in "Arthur Out of Context" compilations, including the "Giant lips" scene at 6:59 and the scene of eating the chip "costume" at 8:21.
I get the feeling Arthur might catch an FU in your next FU DW because the thing is unlike D.W., Nadine actually sticks up for Arthur and genuinely likes him.
I love this episode! What I liked about it is that you should live life to the fullest because you never know what tomorrow may bring. That kind of thoughtless parenting is just absurd to me! I wonder if DW would ever get back at her mother one day! 😡
Could you review these Arthur episodes for FU DW some time this year?
1. DW, Queen of the Comeback
2. The Secret About Secrets
3. DW Bossy Boots
4. Sick As A Dog
5. Best Enemies
6. All About DW
7. Never, Never, Never
8. DW's Furry Freakout
9. My Music Rules
10. Mind Your Manners
11. DW Tale Spins
12. The Tattletale Frog
8, 9, and 12 definitely.
Also “mom and dad have a great big fight”.
I've heard of parents who expose their kids' embarrassing stories on Facebook, Tiktok, and even TH-cam! I would be mortified if my mother exposed one of my embarrassing moments online for the world to see!
also it really must have been a slow news day if a story about a 4 year old thinking she'd been poisoned ended up in the _newspaper,_ but also tbf elwood seems like a place where nothing happens so i'd believe it
You must not be on instagram or tiktok. Embarrassing your kids is normal for a lot of parents unfortunately.
Does anyone else think that it's odd that DW was only 5 years old
for a small handful of episodes, but then went back to being 4 later?
As for what episode that I would like to see you cover the one in
which DW dreads celebrating her 5th birthday. Only for Arthur to help her
remember some of the good times she had when she was still 4.
Considering one of the recent episodes claimed that Spanky died “a few months ago” even though it happened way back in season 2, I’d say Arthur’s lore is messed up enough as is
2:38 wait where did the swing go?
It noped out a when Binkey got off of it.
Even inanimate objects dont want to be involved with DW's shit.
😂
Swing was like "fuck this shit I'm out"
Please do never never never. That episode is a gold mine for FU DW
one thing that baffled me about this episode is why would a newspaper publish a story about d.w eating a green chip anyways. must be a slow news day if that made the front page. sorry kids say and do crazy stuff, my nephew refused to eat broccoli when he was little thinking they were little trees and if he ate one the broccoli would grow inside him turning him into a tree. that never made it into the papers. nor was he teased about it, people just said how cute and moved on. the only thing i liked about this episode was binky and d.w seemed to make good friends, d.w is a brat but can be okay sometimes. keep up the good work
Binky was the MVP here
“Boy, don’t eat the damn sand” 💀
Do gotta admit, Binky's goal was genius compared to Francine's and Arthur's.
To be fair, he had three goals, but the Brain told him that the first two were unrealistic. Had Brain been there at the Sugarbowl that day he would've explained to Arthur and Francine how unrealistic their goals were.
Seriously, you would think her mom would talk to her about her story going into the newspaper.
The second rate University that they go to is Elmwood Elementary. A school where Mr. Ratburn is so fixed on Reed-ing between the lines of Arthur's dad that he neglects to teach his students basic astronomy and physics!🤣
2:31
Boy, don't eat the damn sand!
DW just can't move on (snowball, Mary Moo Cow, Crazy Bus, and to a much lesser degree, Tina the Talking Tabby) and Mrs. Jane Read never learned that thing about tattletales. Besides, DW deserved to be the Joke of the Day, the Week, the Month, the Year, etc. for eating that green potato chip and gaslighting her imaginary friend, Nadine
Thanks for bringing this double-feature into one big episode!
P.S. And by the way, 0:19 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I Hope her imaginary friend gets killed by the *Youkai Sisterhood of Elwood
*Based on the ones from Touhou
5:50, I know that's not Binky's mom making fun of her when her much older son had the same reaction!
4:08 the literal transition to a thx sound effect is just funny to me- and I genuinely love it xD
All jokes aside, DW and Binky’s friendship was so wholesome. It’s a shame we didn’t see more of their dynamic
2:38 Is no one gonna talk about how the swing had disappeared when Binky got off of it?
It never got back down
There’s an episode from a later season that indicates Nadine is real, but only DW can see her.
Maybe they traveled around the world with the Odyssey from Super Mario Odyssey
I was confused by it, too! I thought it was a one year time span because of the different seasons that passed during the montage. Then, when DW claimed they did it all in one day, I was like, "How can that be so?!"
Green potatoes ARE poisonous but a green potato chip isn't for some reason.
In a later episode DW gets teased by the town for eating a green potato chip and she blames Arthur.
And it turned out that it was Mrs. Read that was telling everyone in town about DW!
I'm genuinely wondering how many times she blamed arthur for the snowball event. Has public education failed her that bad that she doesn't know the basics of thermodynamics let alone the water cycle?
i bet you even in the finale where they've all grown up, d.w is probably still internally holding a grudge over the snowball
Maybe she was just as bad as DW is. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
I honestly love this episode very much for no reason whatsoever.
I love it for the Binky and DW scenes honestly. Their interaction in this episode was very wholesome and provided much needed levity for the episode.
Title: DW GETS KILLED BY A GREEN CHIP
Peter griffin: SAY THINGS THAT ARE ONLY TRUE!
6:50 It was Mrs. Read all along who told the world about DW's green potato incident
Didn't know I needed a birthday gift, but this was probably the most requested episode.
Happy Belated Birthday.
thanks! @@tiffany2527
6:46 NOT THE SNOWBALL
I remember this one from when I was a kid. Honestly though DW had this coming
Ellwood City is north of Pittsburgh, PA. As a native of the greater Pittsburgh area, I can confirm that all four seasons in one day is an accurate portrayal of the weather.
DW is responsible for creating the 2 Bad Sonic Games for the GameCube!
Arthur should hit Dw in every episode.
I hate DW right along there with you but what her mom did was wrong. Gossiping about your kids is the precursor to them cutting you off when they get older.
The Binky subplot saved us from max DW cringe.
Imagine if Lays released a new type of potato chip where the bag is filled with only green potato chips and they called it “Oops, all Green Ones”.
I like to joke about apples being released with “oops all cyanide”
Because apple seeds have small amount of cyanide in them
But you would need a whole 2 story, 7 bedroom house full of seeds for them
To be dangerous.
"Remember Arthur, only we can do things to DW; you can't even if she did something to you first."
Someone get Arthur new parents.
5:45 “It’s Ice Cream. It’s already vegetarian”.
*Vegan enters the room*
Yeah lmao I was about to say he just pissed off all the vegan radfems on twitter with that one
Vegetarian and vegan are different
Ice cream is vegetarian, because no meat product
vegetarian = no meat
vegan = no meat + no dairy products
pescetarian = no meat, but still eat fish
flexitarian = occasionally no meat, like once every 2 weeks or so (as if that isn't already the norm?)
self identified carnivore = no vegetables + being even more vocally obnoxious about it than the average vegan
@@SupHapCakand vegans don't eat animal products
But ice cream is dairy ain't it?
Hi Matt! Great video as always. I keep suggesting this one, but you should definitely cover the episode Best Enemies. In it, DW meets another brat named WD. I think you'd have a field day with it
0:03 🎶 Eat A Green chip, Like A Boss. Now I'm Dead, Like a Boss 🎶
If you ever feel like you need a pallet cleanser, maybe try watching some episodes of Bluey to experience that show’s anti-DW: Muffin Heeler.
0:49 Looks like Mr. Ratburn failed as a teacher because his students think Saturn’s rings are solid
The read parents don’t know what the hell they are doing especially we never see DW get punished for any stunt she ever pulls on everyone even Arthur.
There is nothing wrong with a boy taking ballet. Lots of pro wrestlers took ballet. It's great for strengthening their legs and increasing flexability.
I wonder if a news craze like this happened in Brazil with that kid that broke his Dreamcast in the funniest way possible.
This will always be my favorite Arthur episode. I loved watching Binky and DW be friends.
I remember as a kid I once tried to do Arthur & Buster's organizing potato chips system on one bag. It was not as interesting as the show tried to make it look
They must have been really bored to want to organize potato chips on a rainy day!
Matt Neff and PBG are the best Arthur TH-camrs, change my mind.
0:54 Bro really just pulled an “erm actually ☝️🤓”
4:15 Interesting fact, Arthur DIDN'T actually confess to lying to DW. These were his exact words:
"You DID eat my big green potato chip! And you THOUGHT you were poisoned, didn't you?"
Okay, so Arthur either has self-serving memory or short-term memory loss.
I feel like this time, it would be FU JANE
We need a spin-off series of FU DW called FU Mrs. Read
I could have sworn the episode was about DW going to a chip factory and learning about green chips. I could have friggin’ sworn this yesterday.
They mainly showed some children in the segment "And Now A Word From Us Kids" touring a potato chip factory. One kid did ask about the green potato chips and the adult explained to him about it.
@@melissacooper8724 That's probably what I'm remembering then.
It's canon that she grows up to become a police officer, it's only my own personal intuition that she's a body cam off police officer
I GENUINELY forgot this episode existed.
I've only seen it 3 times and each time I was drugged up on various things in the hospital.
Fun fact: Green potatoes contain a toxic alkaloid known as solanine, so DW actually *did* eat a poisonous chip (although one was clearly not enough to kill her)!
thats because there's not enough in one for it to be deadly, you'd have to eat several at once in order to feel sick
Unlike Angelica from Rugrats, DW will NEVER be Redeemed
They're still just kids. They won't understand that Saturn's rings are just space rocks.
0:03 My life story rolled up into one pair of boxers! 😂
5:34 That is one LARGE book
If it was today, Mrs. Read would've posted it to her tiktok during an ice restocking...
"Boy don't eat the dame sand" lol 😂
8:51 Felonies?
But you said earlier that stealing newspapers was only a misdemeanor
The thing about Misdemeanors is if you rack up enough of them they start becoming Felony charges
I get the feeling Arthur might catch an FU in your next FU DW because the thing is unlike D.W., Nadine actually sticks up for Arthur and genuinely likes him.
This episode hit me the hardest as a kid because it was the most relatable one I had seen. I’m almost 30 and I’m still traumatized by my mom’s BS.
5:45 "It's ice cream, it's already vegetarian"
But it has milk in it tho
That would mean non vegan, theres a diffrence. Vegetarians eat milk cheese and even eggs i believe. Vegans don't eat anything that comes from animals
i can't wait for fu caillou
I love this episode! What I liked about it is that you should live life to the fullest because you never know what tomorrow may bring. Also if you want to watch Christmas movies or play Christmas music even though it's not Christmas do it! Don't worry about what others will say! I've listened to my favorite Christmas song "Merry Christmas Everybody" by Slade all year round and I like it!
