Do the writers really expect us to believe that DW'S reaction to eating a poisoned chip would be silence? I think it be more like, "MOM! Arthur poisoned me with a green potato chip!"

Part 2 to this episode is easily a FU Mrs. Read moment. DW is only 4 and didn't need the whole town laughing at her all because her mom thought it was "Cute". It was clearly mortifying to DW. Seriously Binky turning his same experience into a cute ballet number infront of the town was a good levity to this all. Why wasn't it Mrs. Read making an apology to her infront of the town? I liked the Binky ending but that would have been a lot nicer to give proper closure to what Mrs Read did. The talk she has with DW at the dock was too little too late and even as a kid I thought that.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but if DW wasn't such a selfish little pain, her friendships with Arthur's friends would actually be really wholesome, like Buster being her personal detective in the snowball episode, the Brain teaching her science and her genuinely appreciating it more than the kids Brain's age ever appreciate his knowledge, even if it was for selfish reasons on her part, and Binky bonding with her in this episode, even if it was over shared ignorance. Your commentary about ballet having the same appeal as karate for all genders is so true. Back in 2017 I was training as a teacher. The class I was training with had cheerleading as part of their Gym/PE curriculum. The teacher told me to show the class some rugby Haka dances “for the boys just in case”.
~ but to my surprise, when I started the lesson, the boys in the class came up to me and asked if it was okay if they could do cheerleading instead. They put on a fantastic performance at the end of the teaching block.

Despite being 4 years old DW is a huge hypocrite in this episode. Mainly as she hated being talked about and made fun of due to the green chip story. Yet she is so willing to spread news and reveal things about Arthur despite it humiliating him. Like when he lost to her at checkers, she bragged about it everywhere, including around his friends. Lets not forget about the times she revealed that he still sleeps with a teddy bear. Oh and accusing him of being a thief by saying to everyone he stole her snowball and Crazy bus CD. She had no problem spreading news and making accusations about him yet when one thing happens to her she goes into a meltdown.

Great review episode, Matt. I was surprised when Jane exposed her daughter on the newspaper about the whole green potato chip drama. Even I would’ve find it funny myself, DW didn’t need to have her green potato chip story spread around to everybody in town. Also, what the hell kind of mother or father does that to their own child without any of their consent first?! It just sounds like Mrs. Read was just being thoughtlessly funny to everyone in Elwood City, without thinking about how DW would feel of being humiliated in public, and the consequences of Arthur getting blamed by his bratty little sister without getting any good evidence whatsoever! Doesn’t Jane and David Read have any damn idea or any common sense on how to raise their kids, or even have some better understanding towards them?! That kind of thoughtless parenting is just absurd to me! I wonder if DW would ever get back at her mother one day! 😡

DW just can't move on (snowball, Mary Moo Cow, Crazy Bus, and to a much lesser degree, Tina the Talking Tabby) and Mrs. Jane Read never learned that thing about tattletales. Besides, DW deserved to be the Joke of the Day, the Week, the Month, the Year, etc. for eating that green potato chip and gaslighting her imaginary friend, Nadine

The montage in the first episode always confused me as a child, but I eventually realized that this episode doesn't take place over the course of just a few days. It takes place well over the course of a year. It's never really mentioned or confirmed, but I think there's enough there for an explanation. Both DW and Binky thought they had only a few days left to live, and never questioned why they were still alive after all that time passed. It's just really funny to my lol

The fun thing about the "green potato chips are poisonous thing" is that it has a slight basis in reality. The green parts of potatoes CAN be poisonous. They contain solanine. It takes a fair amount of green potato to make you sick, though, let alone kill you, and the amount of solanine in green chips is negligible.

Happy New Year Matt!! Hope you have a great year!! I'm glad you talked about the green chip episodes. When I saw this when I was younger, I didn't feel bad for DW. As an adult, I still feel the same way. After getting away with so much, I felt this was karma for DW. Don't get me wrong, it's not right for anyone to feel embarassed, but at the same time, DW never got consequences for her past behavior so it's hard to feel bad for her. I fully agree about FU Mrs. Read. What parent would purposely tell everyone about something that embarassed their kid without thinking about their feelings. Then again, DW does the same thing to Arthur. She annoys and makes him look bad without thinking about his feelings, so I guess like mother like daughter. I think what would've made the ending better would be if DW had an enlightening moment and realized that been humiliated doesn't feel good and she realizes she does this to Arthur and decides to change her ways. Wishful thinking. Still great episode Matt. Looking forward to next. FU DW. Fu Mrs. Read 👍👍👍

I think it'd be neat if there was a ballet class on offer here, but the closest thing we have locally is Irish stepdancing.
Having men in ballet is more encouraged and useful (because of the lifts during routines) than in stepdancing (which is pretty much all legwork and is rather focused on pretty dresses anyway).

Much like "D.W.'s Baby" (Season 1 Episode 11B), it often seems like both of these stories could have been one long episode, even though two-part episodes (apart from specials) didn't first appear until midway through the show's seventh season in October 2002. The in-universe show "You do the Most Embarrassing Things" is a spoof of "Kids Say the Darnedest Things", though I didn't know that when I originally saw this episode as a kid. And not to mention that clips from both of these segments have been frequently used in "Arthur Out of Context" compilations, including the "Giant lips" scene at 6:59 and the scene of eating the chip "costume" at 8:21.
