I get so stoked watching your vids! This heat has been killing my skate motivation. I need to get out there and get some practice in. Anyways, nice work bro skating is looking 🔥🤜
Thanks brother!!!! Glad you enjoy them! The heat has been terrible, to make it worse its been raining also here. So the humidity combo is just nuts and makes it tough to get out unless you're at the park by 530/6am. Not a fan of cold weather but looking forward to fall sessions right now.
I'm 41, terribly out of shape, and haven't skated in 20 years. I just spent a year in hospital ICU 1:13 getting heart surgery, then got pneumonia. I'm still recovering, but for some reason, I have the urge to get back on a board. I'm going to document the process on video and see how it goes. It's nice to see others doing the same.
Wow, man, that is some intense stuff you've been through! It's great you have the urge to get back on a board, and hopefully, after you've recovered, you do. It's such a great feeling, and I'm not talking about rails or tricks, just the feeling of being back on a skateboard, cruising, and being able to do something I was told my legs would not be able to do. Also, I'm stoked to hear you will document your process. For me, this is what it's all about: so many people on here, and we all share some kind of experience that can help and inspire others. Looking forward to your journey, and make sure to be patient!
Thanks Nate! Really digging this low rail, makes trying them a little less anxiety producing. A square rail is definitely a way better option in my opinion.
Thanks brother!!! Definitely progressed a lot, no more just getting up then falling right off. Hoping to get back out soon, tweaked my wrist a little. Funny I barely went down and it must have just been the right amount of weight and angle...thought for sure I broke it. Sat down for a bit and after a while it was pretty ok.
Bro, what a video!! The 50-50 makes are awesome. Your slide up the rail was rad and the blunt to rock too! 👊🏻 Love watching your edits as you have a great energy ✌🏻
Thanks Bro!! My wrist took so much of the weight I thought for sure it broke. Had to sit down for a few minutes and re- think life 😂. Hopefully this week isn't too rainy and eventful so we can skate. This was Saturday 530/6am not a soul there till 8, not sure if you can get out that early. Think I may go surfing either friday or sunday so thats all I got happening. But will talk soon!
Thank you!!! Might be time to dial it down for a bit, back to some low key tricks I think. Hope you guys are getting some session in!! Saw a new vid pop up hoping to watch it later
Thanks!!! The one I have at home is low and about 6' (1.8ish meters) long, think because it was so short I was not able to get on at the right moment or something. Doing it on a longer one definitely helped, think more reaction time, thought time ect. The one thing that really helped was not thinking about anything other than getting on to it as light footed as possible. After a few sends, it started to click. If you try yours mates out let me know how it goes. Good luck!🙌
Thanks Wes!!! Believe it or not I still have learned a slappy 50-50 or many other slappy tricks, since I haven't been able to find a decent curb yet. Thats why jumped right to the rail 😂. Hoping this fall to find a curb wax it up and start doing slappys.
Thanks!!! Was so bummed out when I got home and saw a blurry one, dam humidity here does all kinds of funky things to cameras. Hopefully soon the weather will be back to somewhat normal.
From watching youtube skatevideos I was under the impression (myself having never attempted to grind any round rails) that in order to balance on the rail you must heel-side lock (wheel truck) in order to be able to balance in the first place- in other words if I try to land in the middle of my trucks, then I will always slip out- because it seems impossible to balance on a 50 50 without using the heelside rear leg wheel to lock. Can you elaborate on my understanding?
Hi! Your understanding is correct; if you do not "lock in," you will slip out. However, locking in will depend on what the rider "feels" and can be heel side, toe side (least common), or cross lock. For me, when I first started trying these in a previous video, I was dead set on getting some lock in, preferably the cross lock. All I was doing was thinking about this and getting on the rail in a locked position, which is pretty hard. In this video, I went with not thinking about any of this and instead stayed light-footed to get on the rail, then saw what lock worked for me, sort of like letting it fall into place. The heel side clicked for me, and as I get more comfortable, I can tweak this to the cross lock method. So yes, your understanding is correct, but in my opinion, trying these out for the first time while focusing only on the locking method will make for a not so fun slipping out experience. Hope that helps and I didn't ramble on to much 😂
@@OldBrokenSkater No, no you didn't ramble. I really appreciate you taking the time to communicate you insight/experience- I found it very helpful, cheers bro! I like your idea of letting your body decide- and i think that is so important and can be applied to other aspects (i.e., letting your natural inclination dictate how you approach/ do something). For example how I stand on a board and how far my feet are apart is in some measure dictated by my body type - leg length, inseam- and how my legs are attached to my hips - there is variation in human beings on what the natural inclination of the toes to point even when just standing. Of course, I will adjust- but in most cases, adjustments should be made off what is natural- not what you saw someone else do and are just robotically emulating.

Nice job on the 50-50s! You got them now!

Thanks Simon! I always have fun making these videos and documenting this wild journey. Much inspiration from you and some of our other mates!💪

Nice work. Looks like you'll have 50/50's soon. 👍🏼👏🏼🙌🏼
Thanks!!! Hoping to get back at them soon and get them dialed in🙌
Fall looked brutal but hell yeah for getting it!!! Be proud man!! Smashing it as always!! 🤙

@@OldBrokenSkater it’s so hard to not overdo it… I see hubby struggle with the same thing - keep telling him to take it easy but he can’t lol.
Good job man
Thanks bro!!!
So good man! 🙌🏾 Been thinking of trying these on my mates low, long portable flat bar. Even that is scary!

@@OldBrokenSkater Cool, taa. I think the 'light-footed' comment will be a useful thing to keep in mind 👍🏽
Nice brother you make it all look so easy, I eventually want to try some grinds maybe start out with some slappy 50-50 that round rail looks scary.

Awesome work on those 5050s shame one was blurry, that would happen to me haha
