So, back in the dark ages (seriously, we are talking 40+ years ago) when I made costumes for the Gilbert&Sullivan operettas I used to be in I had to make about 10-ish small hats in various styles all similar to yours; I used buckram hat forms. Some I got from a wedding supply place and the others from a costume supply. I would discourage the use straw if you are covering with fabric as it’s difficult to work with and is visible through the fabric. I did use straw for a couple of the hats (mine was one, as a matter of fact) but the straw was integral to the style. The buckram is more cost effective and easier to work with. 🙂 ~Leigh
I saw on one of the historical sewing groups that the ladies of Larkin and Smith sold the company. Really too bad since they had a lot of great patterns. In 2015, I was lucky enough to take a stays class with them and learned a great deal about historic stays constructions.
I have seen examples of the hat. The ribbon hangs down to the nape of the neck where a bow sits the tail of the ribbon continues down a bit further. Lovely mitts can you imagine how long the embroidery wood hav taken, back in the day.
The mittens look stunning but I love the bergere, I really need to finally make one (or more) for myself! Also, you look gorgeous as always in your beautiful gowns!
Wow!!! Your brain for details is astounding!!! That Vienna Ball looked beautiful as did the costumes. The accessories that you made... Wow!!! Just wow!!! You are a stellar example of why we need an orchestra in life and not everybody playing the same instrument. Wow!!! Your patience is remarkable. Just wow!!! 😷😎😷
So recently I figured out that I could use some stones that I had been using as paper weights for ironing as well. They work well to press down seams ahead of the iron and I get to keep my hands away from the boiling steam. My stones are ovals about the size of a palm. They also double as weights for patten cutting as well.
Accessories make the outfit! Can't wait to see all the parts come together. In the meantime, you've got amazing mitts and a lovely hat to come up with new outfit combinations for.
2 layers of exterior and 1 layer of lining, using the lining to bind the raw edge - awesome! Gorgeous to watch, and I learned a specific thing I know I will use. Bonus!
gorgeous as always!!! i am IN LOVE with those gloves! i also think i like your version of her hat better, honestly. it's a shame to not have the blue (or green) feathers but i can see why you decided not to do the pleated bit.
Just for future needs, you can dye white feathers with Acrylic inks. I used Liquitex inks and my airbrush. Worked like a charm. After they dry, run them through your fingers to "loosen" them back up. I didn't have any problems with the ink coming off, but please be careful and check it.

Of course not everything we printed was artistic and glorious (gotta make that schmoney), but even then our print and sewing teams were awesome and did fascinating work from a technical perspective. I have never worked with such creative and skilled people (I miss them).

You look so beautiful! You have crazy skills. I did kept waiting for you to shop flowers in the NY shop Bernadette Banner had mentioned but that would have blown the budget to pieces. Once again wonderful video.
You do the most beautiful work! I'm always amazed at what you create. I love the movie so this was right up my alley. In fact I have a tricorn based upon the one she wears during her arrival at the palace scene. Now I want to create this hat even though I have nothing to wear it with since my true love is Victorian. Maybe this will inspire me to branch out...
These accessories are SO gorgeous, and your joy is infectious too (not dreading going back to my film college readings now 😅). Eagerly awaiting the next video, this one is brilliant!!
You are AMAZING ! I am so looking forward to any new video you make, I so much love what you do 🥰 it motivates me to begin my sewing adventure.
