From one old timer to another--Great Job--Now I need to do the same for my truck--but the difference is that I have a tool box that I have to contend with--But it can be done very carefully.
I did the exact same thing on my 2001. Literally turned a potential day long job of dropping that tank into a 30 minute job. I too used a cutoff wheel. Soaked some towels in water and stuffed them between the underside of the bed and the tank before I started cutting and I went very slowly. Now that the hatch is open I could easily swap pumps out on roadside in a matter of minutes. No regrets…
Hey Mr Wallace good job! I have replaced mine twice through many years but didn’t know any better and dropped the tank both times. Both times I had a full tank, that’s the only 2 times in my life I can remember having a full tank of gas lol!! Of course!!
Mr. Wallace nice job on the pump replacement. Extra work that will pay off down the road and will save you your back and time. I spilled gas on me changing one one time on a car that had almost full tank. Not fun at all! Have a Blessed Day Friend! Justin
I’m very fortunate to have an incredible company called Gas Tank Renu just a few miles away. They have done the job for me twice. Once on a ‘76 Buick Pk. Ave. and once on my Dodge Truck. Only cost me $30 for the labor. I don’t remember what the pump cost. But I could do it that cheaply myself if I stood on my head and shook every penny out of my pockets!!
30 bucks labor? Sure. That ain't nuthin'. I have a shop that if I bring the fuel pump, they take my camper off, remove bed liner, cut the hatch, install my pump, screw the hatch back down, put my camper back on, and they charge me 2 bucks, with a 1 buck charge for shop supplies, total charge is 3 bucks.
@@rexdaniels3350 Don't you hate it when people blow smoke? He might have been charged 30 bucks labor to change a fuel pump back in 1938. Or they charged him 30 bucks labor and $1,200 for the pump.
You know I had never thought of doing it that way I’m just happier it’s back up and running it wouldn’t of hurt to put a little paint on the part you cut just for incase reasons no rust hopefully
Hold my beer! - as sparks fly around fuel fumes! I’ve thought about doing that but I drop the tank partially and take the pump out. My biggest problem is getting the high pressure fuel line connections apart. My 1999 Ford F-150 keeps running well. I’m just glad I can do most work on it myself. These newer vehicles void the warranty if you work on it.
I like Chevy and have owned chevys! But, Ford is slightly better! Chevys are fairly easy to work on! Ford engineers get crazy sometimes and perplex the shade tree mechanic. But, if I get 400,000 on my F150, I’ll be a Ford man for life!
I feel for ya! I had to replace my old ford PU fuel pump , but we took the bed off and then we cut an access hole after we had it off, just in case that happened again!! Yes it happens to Fords too !! I know thats hard to believe, we are usally the ones that take the Chevy boys to the parts stores, haaahaaaha...glad ya gotter fixed old timer....🤣😅😆👍
They should just make the gas tanks where they can be lowered down like a spare tire. Just put a wrench in there and crank it down enough to get access to the fuel pump. Or at least have a hatch like you cut out from the factory. I guess that would make things too easy.
All you need is a jack, two jack stands, a transmision jack, a socket extention and a ratchet. And two - two by fours cut to lengh and run bolts threw To drop a fuel tank on a transmission jack. Have pliers for fuel lines to not damaging any of them. Borrow transmission jack from someone if need be.
😂how many people have transmission jacks??? How many people have a concrete pad to park on ? I guess you obviously didn't watch the videos that I watched trying to undo electric connections and lines. So easy to play Monday morning quarterback on TH-cam.😂😂😂😂
Did you use that Butyl Tape looking stuff (I believe you called it Dum-Dum?) to seal the piece of bed back in place? Nice job. I was surprised you cut such a large hole. What was the reason for that?
What a hack job. All you need to do, is disconnect the fill and vent hose, pull two bolts and drop the tank. Slide it out, and install the pump. That truck HAD a clean looking bed.
At the end of the day it still does with the liner re installed. I've just spent a week changing my pump cause I dropped the tank so I could clean it out. Better fking work today cause some dumbass that changed it last bent the gray wires pin I'm the wire harness plug!
They should have made that access hole from the factory. You did good. Much better that dropping the tank. You made it look easy. Good job!
Thanks! Yes they should have. Anything to make it harder on us common folk!
Thank you for sharing this video. I just got to save it for future viewing
That's 1 way to do it for sure!! Nice job!!

Got the job done! Sometimes you have to just get it done best way possible!!
Who Dares Win ..... You Won Mr Wallace.... well done ... take care .
She lives again!! You the man Mr Ricky! Runs better than a new 1!

I knew you could do it, you can fix anything, Good Job!
Great job
Nice job
Nice work Ricky !! 😊👍👍

You think that’s a good deal?? My shop will pay me $100, and a free lunch, for the privilege of changing my pump!!

I'm about to do the same thing to my 93, wish me luck 🤞
Nice job!!
I DID THE SAME GOOD JOB
Thanks!!

Ford? Did he say Ford? oh boy,, :)

👍Good job Ricky & Joey. I’d rather push my Chevy than drive a FORD! Ha!
The first thing I learned about TH-cam...if someone blows something up there would be no video to watch! No need to hold my breath anymore!
Thank goodness no boom!! This time :)

What is this thing called ford? ??
Try it you will liiiiiike it!!😄
I just knowed you hadn heard of one...attz why you drive a Checy!
Now would this be the same thing for a 1990 Chevy Silverado
what measurements did u use to cut it out?
Sure would be nice if he did ,I'm ready to cut mine out !!!
He probably got the measurements from: th-cam.com/video/n0Ymu0EqLZc/w-d-xo.html
@@RichardColeman-b6t I'm good now ,thanks I'm done 👍✌️

What were your measurements? Cause I'm looking at having to do this same thing and was curious.
Sure beats dropping a fuel tank that will always be nearly full when you need to.
Yep!! Thanks for watching!

It's been a chore and hopefully it works because whoever did it last bent a fking pin in the wiring harness plug.

Ford put your engineers to shame , Good JOb Sir
Thanks!

Nice job. I was surprised you cut such a large hole. What was the reason for that?
I did! Packed it around the ring. I used measurments from a video I saw, Slighty larger than I wanted but I had plenty of room
More than one way to skin a cat...
all you had war 4 bolts and you could of just pulled the bed back 2 feet

moron
Once the liner goes back in, he STILL has a clean-looking bed.
These vehicle manufacturers are responsible for this stupid process, If they only had a brain.😂
