really great video. love the points. I want to share my 2 cents to on battlepasses.
Battlepass are cheap labor high return products.
Battlepass create pseudo content, where there isn't any actual content. The player is simpy tricked sub conciousnly that there is content. This is a very real strategy they use on players. The players do next to nothing, besides simply play the game. They still buy the battlepass believing they are getting something out of it, when in actuality they are being screwed. No dev, no matter how hard they portray themselves as needing money, is innocent if they implement a battlepass. As dumb as this sounds = "The very nature of battlepasses is to make money at the players expense.", people just don't realize the expense is what they could have had, not what they get.
Now playing the game is another issue. Battlepasses are meant to retain player attention. If you don't want to finish the battlepass, then this is not targetting you. It is targetting the people who have limited time, but have bought the battlepass. Battlepasses directly help player retention through pseudo content and prevent the player who is already invested from switching to another game.
I do not believe battlepasses are going away. They are forever part of the industry. They are a very good product that has a high ROI. They build false confidence in the community and retain players. Now are battle passes wrong? It is as wrong as a supermarket requiring paid membership for discounts.
