I understand about the cats; weadopted 2 littermates, and our old cat still hisses at them, but the family pair keep them out of her hair most of the time. Good show.
Hey jaw tooth glad to see new locations for train watching. That dragging strap is why railfans should stay back when watching. Can really hurt someone. Glad to see lots of train action. Rail bent over ties shows how they would stop trains during civil war by heating rail so it bend out of shape so can't be used. Have a great railroad day. 🚂🙋♀️
"Really hurt" = kill -- if one of those gets tangled around you and you get dragged along by the train, there's a good chance you'll be dead before you can get free, especially with a faster-moving train. The metal banding that's often used to secure loads can also be pretty sharp.
My pleasure! Thanks for your super chat support! I was just going through the comments and I found this. I really appreciate it and I will use it for the gas tank. Thanks again for your support!!
What a cool spot!! So glad you made this video - really interesting track layout. May you have continued safety, and I'll be praying that your situation with the plates gets better quickly. You're an admirable man and don't need that pain. Be good, stay as cool as possible, and may God bless you
Guess what??? Back when that building was actually in service for the Southern Railway, you would've waited till your "dying day" for a (passenger) train...it was only a freight depot (unless you intended to ride in a boxcar!!)
You had a productive railfanning day in Dalton, Georgia on 8 August 2024, Jaw Tooth! Where were all those empty auto racks going? The first train in this video was a full auto rack train and the last train was a Norfolk Southern train with a lot of auto racks on it. Thank you for taking us inside the Dalton depot. Drayton from Delay In Block Productions has done live TH-cam streams from this location, but he has not gone into the depot when he does his live streams. Also, thank you for taking us on the other side of the tracks at the road crossing. It was nice to see the depot from that side of thetracks. (Post 20 August 2024 at 1530 CDT.)
Good morning Jaw Tooth, we watch your wonderful videos every morning while we have coffee, really enjoy them. I would like to wish my hubby, the Yellow Rope Man, a happy 77th birthday on August 29th. We live in Opelika, Alabama. Perhaps you will also.
Nice spot with five tracks and great trains. I enjoyed them all and seeing the inside of the train station. I’m so sorry to hear you are still having mouth pain. That should have been fixed by now! Thanks for the video JT take care. ❤
You always find the best spots Brian ! You make everything so educational and fun . It's nice the city and the railroads work together to build a viewing platform and center for railfans . Ever since 9/11 , the crews aren't always ameniable to having fans film . Tom is growing like a weed ! Chessie and Loki take to the water don't they ? I still say you have THE best rail channel on you tube period ! Blessings to you and the family and critters. ✝️🐕😺🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃
TY for your time and hard work. I remember the graffiti from some of your other videos. That one looks like a fingering chart for the trumpet. A great video start to finish as usual. Love your videos. Also Hello to 1960gambit. I hate that you are still in pain and having trouble. I'll keep you in my prayers. Love ya.
That crescent Pullman car there’s no telling how many times that car came through my little town of Pearl River Louisiana because that’s the name of Amtrak that runs from New Orleans to New York City is the crescent but anyway another awesome video JT and you might need to change Dennist because those plates shouldn’t be breaking like that but anyway, my friend you stay safe out there and watch your back and try to stay cool and put that hat on that ball head lol. And we’ll see you on the next one.
Thanks very much for the video today, JT! It was quite interesting. Most of the trains were on the shorter side compared to what we usually see locally. That's not a bad thing, just an observation. I really like the historical markers. History was my favorite subject in school. I also enjoy seeing the new locations and scenery. This was another fine video, my friend. I always like seeing your pets! They're so adorable. Have a great day and please be careful out there! We'll chat later. 😀😀😀😀😀❤❤❤❤❤
Trains in both directions all day! That kid on the motorcycle running the gates is crazy, so dangerous! Old track pieces there are interesting some history and disc golf cages too!
It's good to see others joining in. Georgia is hot! My parents moved to Valdosta and when i went to visit in the summer it was always HOT! Awesome trains. Thanks for the video Brian stay well roll on
Oh wow! I have never been to Valdosta that I know of. I should probably go to Georgia in the winter. Thanks for the Super Chat support! With the ones I got today I got enough to fill up the tank and head for Indiana. I want to get over there this week if I can. I have people coming over tomorrow to work on my pond dock. Hopefully I can get to Indiana on Thursday and Friday. I want to get one of the last Triple crown road railers. They are about to end service. Thanks again for your support Mark!
Hi JT. I sincerely hope you get your teeth sorted quickly, you can’t eat a steak without good nashers! And thank you for enduring the heat for all of us wherever we are in the world.
I hope so too! I can't eat anything hard and can't really chew anything. The bottom plate broke the second night in Chattanooga. That was a major ouch. My mouth has to heal soon and I am getting ready to go back to the doctor right now. If all goes well I am planning on going to northern Indiana this week for a couple of days. Thanks for watching!
Manly Jail Works was founded in 1888 by Frank Manly to produce jail cells. The Manly Jail Works building dates back to 1914 and has been empty for about 40 years. It was reported that in in 2020 it was bought by a local Dalton resident who was attempting to revamp the building and make it an upscale burger restaurant.
You do Shoutout for your viewers for their Birthdays, Anniversaries and etc . We all appreciate you for them . I just want to wish you a late Happy Birthday from all of us. Happy Birthday!!! Hope you feel better.
Dang, you caught some great action! The northbound CSX train with the SD40-3 is the L806. It's a mon-fri Chattanooga to Dalton local. I'm the engineer on its counterpart, the L807. It's also a mon-fri local that works industries around the Chattanooga airport. Btw, I hope you went into the Cremo! They have killer chili dogs and shakes. 😊
I have a few more videos from that area that I am working on. I also filmed at Ringgold, Georgia. I will post that one soon. Thanks for watching and commenting!
With the 5 track crossing and the diamond at a gentle angle it is similar to the one at Muncie IN you have shown in the past. It wouldn't be surprising if there were two more tracks at the Crossing which would have been for the passenger platforms. The first CSX train with the mixed Freight was powered by the same set you saw at Coffeys Cliff note the WM fireball on the trailing unit. A very nice restoration on the Depot add no doubt the passenger car will look Tip Top in the near future. As they refer to Dalton as the Carpeting capital it also reflects a major change from a century ago when much of the production was in the Northeast part of America. Curiosity prevailed on the rock train a the reporting marks on the hopper cars is assigned to Georgia Power and in an older Trains magazine that limestone is apparently destined for power plants for use in their exhaust scrubbers. Hopefully your dental issues can be resolved soon so that proper healing can take place. Combined with that heat and humidity don't knock yourself out. Maybe you can bring back some carpeting seconds for the cats to scratch on
More than 85 percent of the carpets sold in the United States, and around 45 percent of the residential and commercial carpets found worldwide, are made within a 65-mile radius of Dalton.
That seems massively unlikely and doesn't match any figures I can find, which say that the entire USA accounts for only 4% of world carpet exports, but 20% of world imports. That's by value, rather than volume, but production costs in the US are surely higher than in the world's biggest-exporting countries (China, India and Turkey) so going by value will overstate US exports. By volume, North America seems to be about 20% of world production.
Welcome to Georgia. Going south, the CSX line runs to Cartersville, there's a yard there and the line also branches north east, going to Etowah Tennessee. Continuing south, you come to Kennesaw. Ga where the Civil War locomotive "The General" is housed in a small museum, next to the original rail road station, from the Civil War. I live a few miles from there. Just that little extra distance south, affords lots of great train watching. In Acworth, GA. the CSX line passes a great Cajun style restaurant, Henrys Louisiana Cafe. Well worth the trip. The NS line goes south through Dallas/Hiram, Ga. and south to Austell, Ga, There is a large intermodal yard there and the line joins the NS line from Atlanta to Birmingham, Alabama. In Austell, if you go east into Atlanta, you will come to both the CSX and NS major rail yards. On the other side of Atlanta, in Duluth, Ga. is the "National Railway Historical Society's" southern branch museum, very much well worth a visit. And, its all within in a few dozen miles of Dalton. I know that you are from Ohio, I am too, originally. In Georgia, "It Ain't hot" until it hits 98 degrees or there about. (92 is just a nice warm day and 95 is just beginning to get hot). ;-)
I wish I could have seen The General. I went to Ringgold and filmed a train there passing the station and I saw plaques about it. I haven't put that video together yet but I will soon. I didn't realise how close I was to Alabama. I have never been to that state and I was almost in it and didn't know it. Thanks for your comments!
Great video. I guess this will be the only way I get to see trains. Unless CN, CPKC and TCRC (Trans Canadian Rail Corporation) come to an agreement or deal, both CN and CPKC will go on strike or have a worker lockout on Thursday
Great video, how do you count the inter-modal cars that are connected? do you count each segment or as 1 car? love the disk golf baskets outside the museum, makes wonder where the tee boxes are.
Brian, for those first two trains the growling sound of the locos really came through. I’m guessing that the wall of the porch captured, reflected and amplified the sound. The angle of the roof overhang might have aimed the sound straight down at you. For other trains I didn’t notice the same effect but think that’s because the locos didn’t seem to be working all that hard.
Sorry to hear you're in pain. Hopefully you get it straightened out soon. Nice trains. Does each railroad own its own tracks and when there's a crossover by NS on CSX tracks or vice versa is there some sort of agreement or does each company have to pay royalties and fees to the other?
That's a beautiful display in the old depot. 😀😀😀❤❤❤
I understand about the cats; weadopted 2 littermates, and our old cat still hisses at them, but the family pair keep them out of her hair most of the time. Good show.

Thanks for watching!
Dalton GA is on of my favorite place to railfan . love to go again.
Had a great time looking at the trains.
Glad you enjoyed it!
That next to last train was a great head-on shot of the CSX train crossing the diamond. Great video. Thanks.
Fascinating, a railroad station next to tracks , that’s just crazy talk!!! Them folk there in Georgia sure do live on the edge of danger 🤦♂️🤣😝
I'd guess that rock train was very heavy. They were loaded up pretty good! 😀😀😀😀❤❤❤❤

One of the cars had REM spray painted on it. REM,a Georgia based rock band.
Great catch jawtooth and at 16:20 when the front of the train was passing did you hear any clicking sounds from the control cabinet?
Yes, I hear that a lot. It removes moisture from the lines to prevent water damage
