Mod author here! Hi Icarus and everyone! Thanks for reviewing! I understand that it's probably quite a niche thing, but AB3D was actually my first FPS and it left an impression on me as a kid. I know the game probably isn't great in parts, and that's fine! I just wanted to make something for people to either remember the game, or give them a introductory peek into the weird dusty corner of the FPS genre, the Amiga shooter. I tried to smooth over some of the issues from the original in the process, so I hope I struck a good balance between improvements and accurate recreation! PS. The Pit sucks. There wasn't much I could do with it, sorry! Glad you appreciated the teleport I added. The original game author literally showed up in the ZDoom forum thread and apologised for it.

I played this back in the day a lot with my old, beat up, second hand A1200. The mod helped me a lot as now I could finally see what the last boss looked like beyond "It is clearly a large pile of pixels" at a framerate above 15 FPS on a viewing area the size of a postage stamp. Also its kind of weird that the test arena Gamma boss is now seen as kind of cute as opposed to a frame rate killing horror.
Civvie's Dungeon can only be accessed through a sewer, so it's a salty spot for him. Along with the Doom 3 Shotgun. Great vid, Icarus! I remember playing this game when I was in a stranger's house. Just followed some of my friends into the place--I think one of them knew the kid who lived there?

Growing up with Amigas, Alien Breed was one of my absolute favourites, - Alien Breed 3D was a big game for me as a kid, loved it, pity they didn't have the xenomorph-esque aliens which were in the top down games and actually featured in the 1995 demo for this game. Would very much like to have a blast at this port

Alien Breed 3D was an incredible achievement for Amiga. When judging the simplicity and "emptiness" of the level design, one has to take into consideration the very low resoslution of the original, where simplistic level architecture allowed easier orientation. I was a PC gamer, but I still liked the stillshots from this game in the magazines and I wished to play it.
I was not expecting Civvie to make a surprise appearance but the idea of getting numerous weapons early in the game sort of reminds me of hte demo of Shadowgrounds where the demo gives you quite a bit of weapons to try out.
It's a "Szyslak Special", similar to the super shotgun in Quake II. Also, who knows if the ammo counter for the shells refers to single shells, or simply loads for the shotgun.
Since there's only one shotgun in the game, it felt a bit superfluous to have it use 2 ammo per shot. Keeping it a simple 'ammo = number of shots' situation seemed like the most intuitive option to me.
I would have loved to see the "Sewer Count" gag appear, the ding noise play and the total increase by one but then Civvie comes in and vetoes it. Then it un-dings and disappears.
This is AMAZING! I played both Alien Breed 3D and 3D 2 The Killing Grounds on my accelerated (Blizzard 1230) Amiga. I couldn't believe my luck when I saw this was available. Now, when is AB3D 2 The Killing Grounds gonna be ready :-)
10:06 Huh, can't attack directly, entirely too much health, spawns minions quickly? Why does that sound like a land-bound Pain-elemental, with "better" minions? (yes, better, anything that can shoot back is better than a melee skull)
I remember when AB3d came out for the Amiga. What a glorious, hopeful time! I mean, true room-over-room, and even PC fans were agog at the copperlist based water effects that *no* PC FPS had at the time. Sigh. What might have been!

Why, out of curiousity..? As - whilst it could be better (in a lot of ways) - there's already an engine that enables playing the _Marathon_ trilogy (and it's mods) on modern operating systems: Aleph One
Yes, but I think he meant that on a gameplay and appearance level, it is similar to a Beholder in that it likes to float around, shoot fireballs, and is a big sphere with a large central eye and mouth full of sharp teeth.

The Pit has to stay, there is always that one level that you can't forget, so Pit will be such place for this game. Thank you for your work!
