Do you have a video of replacing the pads?
I'm fed up looking for 'service parking brake' issues and getting results to put the handbrake into service mode. Does anyone have a link that actually services parking brake problems?
How did u activated service mode?
You went direct for switching the car on. Thanks
I have manual gearbox is the procedure the same as auto box
Hi yes it should be the same. Thanks
Does this have to be done for all break pads changes on an insignia? Mine failed its MOT due to binding on the pads. I've changed the discs and pads and its in for its retest on Thursday. Not sure if its in my head but my car feels sluggish to drive so not sure if they're still binding or not.
Hi one way to find out is by jacking both rear wheels, once jacked release the handbrake and spin the wheels. The wheels should spin freely if it doesn’t then callipers could be an issue but if that was the case then you couldn’t have turned the pistons so I think you should be ok. Don’t worry just put it through for retest and 🤞🏽👍🏼
Hi i heva 1st gen insignia, no start button...just key
I'm interested in the app you're using can I somehow get it?
Hi there, is this the same method if changing the front discs ect? Thanks
No Chap, the handbrake is only for the rear wheels
This is what worked for me on my rear brakes. As one commenter said, the video skips how to get into Service Mode!
Retract Manual Method (Basically, electronically wind the brake caliper in so you can service the brakes etc. This is actually better than traditionally forcing the calipers/piston in.)
2.1. Change the transmission gear to neutral or park position.
2.2. Press and hold the push button start switch for 10 seconds, with the brake pedal not applied.
This will place the vehicle in Service Mode (Ignition ON with the engine OFF).
2.3. Press brake pedal several times until the brake booster vacuum is empty.
2.4. Press the brake pedal and press the park brake switch until the orange park brake lamp begins to flash.
keeping the brake pedal applied, release and re-press the park brake switch for approximately 5 seconds.
2.5. Release the brake pedal. The orange park brake lamp extinguishes for a moment after which the rear brake calipers are retracting
Extend Manual Method (Basically exit service mode for the brakes work you've just done).
14.1. Change the transmission gear to neutral or park position.
14.2. Press and hold the push button start switch for 10 seconds, with the brake pedal not applied. This will place the vehicle in Service Mode (Ignition ON with the engine OFF).
14.3. Press the brake pedal and pull the park brake switch until the orange park brake lamp extinguishes and the rear brake calipers are extending.
14.4. Release the brake pedal.
Is it essential to use diagnostic ,can I not just hold down brake button in to service mode,I have no access to diagnostic reader with out paying some body
You can mate, it's standard practice. The brakes autocaibrate the caliper positions when you properly take it out of service mode with the correct method. See my notes (kindly pinned by the video creator) elsewhere in these comments.
Is this the same for the insignia B grand sport model that launched in 2017?
It should be the same for all B model Insignia's.
Yes, that's my car and the one I wrote the pinned notes for.
Can l then just push caliper piston back. Thanks
No need, it does it itself electonically so you don't have to worry about pushing fluid back as it's all automated! I was sceptical at first but didn't want to force them back as it was the first time I'd tackled brakes with an electronic handbrake, however I'm glad I took the time to research this before just going ahead and manually forcing the caliper piston back. I've posted my method in this comments section as the video misses the 'Howt to get into Service Mode' bit.
