      As a Baby Boomer you like me no doubt remember feeling the despair in 1978 with the gutless engines of our time, thanks to politics...
      Fortunately I wasn't buying a new model at that time in my life. I owned a slant six Plymouth 1967 Valiant. Before that a straight six 1964 Ford Falcon.
      Both were less than $1,000 the '64 was my 1st car and cost me $400 in 1975 the '67 Plymouth I really don't remember what I paid for it in the very elate '1980's but even if it was $1,200 it was a good motor...
      Also both were three on the tree manual trannies. It was suspension, brakes and such that was threatening to put me in the poor house as I was in school at the time. So I sold it the '67 to a friend and rode my bike to school.

      @@claztube Politics have been a thorn in the side of inventors for sooooo long. We might have been discussing our steam powered cars if things had been different back then. But, yes, those cars you owned were great ones. My first car was a 1953 Chevy. I don't remember the model now, but I paid $10 to a farmer to buy it. Had to tow it home with a log chain, and after I replaced the timing chain it ran like a sewing machine. I've owned many since, but the slant six motor has always been a favorite.

    i bought a 78 in 78 and drove it for 2 years then me knowing what i was doing. put a 650 lift cam in it with the stock valve springs. and it lasted for a long time. just a guess 3 miles before i valve wanted to breed with a piston. but after that i put a 392 hemi in it with 180 headers. that is the only way it would work. then i found out what they called them boat anchors. because a stock 318 would out run it. but it sure was pretty.

    I had a '77 that I literally gave $1 for. The guy was a friend who was helping "deal" with the car after its older lady owner got a new car. It ran and drove great and was really clean other than behind the driver side door. It was hit and poorly repaired in the '80s. The only rust in the whole car in that spot...
    Would have been a great driver but ended up selling it when I needed some cash. One of the ones that had value that I could bare to part with. 😄

    I actually did a test drive in 1978 of this very model. This was the most basic Volare' you could buy. It had a 225 cubic inch slant 6 hooked to a small 3 speed trans. I ended up buying the Volare' brougham which had bucket seats, 'opera' window in the back, half vinyl roof and a 318 'Lean burn' V8. The dash on mine was different too as the Brougham had a wood grain dash and glove box cover. Mine was red with a white vinyl roof and white interior.

Ya that Ricardo Montilbon. Voooollllarrreee oh oh OH. Honestly cars like this got 30mpg and were common for about 4yrs before they fell apart. Lots of dads sent their daughters off to college in them. My buddy mopar Jeff has a aspen drag car lol cuz it was a cheap build. 451 stroker wakes up a f body. Oh side note I sold that 70 challenger and it left today. I think you should turn it into a field racer and take it to Tom's farm for some Mudd bogging. Then Scrap it for its parts that are good then put that 7.5hp 6cyl on the shelf. Those Trans are pretty rare to fine and you can get your 300 back on that alone. The dukes doors just screams beat me. Ya know if not for the terrible deck lid the body wouldn’t be all that bad🤷🏻‍♂️. I’ve never had an F-body, definitely similar to the nova in looks and I can’t say I hate it. Also, the cheap factor changes so many things 😂! I miss the days of all cars being cheap, I once bought a 73’ dart with a super 6 for $100, also a 73’ duster for $100, a 65’ barracuda formula S (273 dual point commando) intact..even got it running great-gave $200!! I even bought a 65’ impala (283) with still functional AC once I got it running for $50!! Bought all of those cars around 1999-2002~ ish..
    I turned around and sold all those cars for around $500 and I thought I made out like a bandit🤦🏻‍♂️…
    At that time I looked at a 1969 charger (383) that was really nice red, with red/white tuck and roll interior. I really wanted it, they had a $5000 for sale sign in the window with a phone number, dad said it was too expensive…🤦🏻‍♂️🙄😣

    • @DeadDodgeGarage
      @DeadDodgeGarage 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No this thing really isn’t all that big of a pile. The trunk is only as bad as it is because of someone’s brilliant spray foam job. The one quarter is bad, but overall it could be saved. The paperwork problems dissuade me from pursuing that.

    • @MidnightOilsRestoration
      @MidnightOilsRestoration 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DeadDodgeGarage I understand, so many cars end up that way, even my 68’ charger was from another state and it was a nightmare getting a title 42 done+$200. For 20+yrs I tried to avoid cars without titles because of that but once I finally became official (an LLC’d shop) the rules (for Oklahoma) allow for me to fill out lein paperwork, take it to the courthouse and a judge will assign it back to me for the tag agency to issue a brand new title…they just have to have a vin inspection, and the tag agency has literally sent people to my shop to look at a car on the rotisserie 😂! I then took them inside to see the removed dash with vin plate. 🤷🏻‍♂️They seemed pretty impressed and said they were fine with it. I don’t know what the laws of Washington state are but if they’re similar then I would think that rocket would have the same ability. Saving cars is hard work brother, thanks for all your contribution!

    twin turbo and twin carb please...... to retard ignition timing (to avoid ping), you can use the HEI 5-pin module, (EMR, fifth pin R) or (ESC, fifth pin D ), when the 5th pin of the module is connected to ground, it instantly delays the turn-on time by 10 degrees

    • @DeadDodgeGarage

      I’m going to run an EFI kit because I have it and it was free. And twin turbos seem excessive for the slant… but I like where your head’s at. Good to know! I knew the 5 pin had timing control, but I didn’t know the control mechanism for that. Is it all or nothing with the ground signal? Or can it be varied with a resistor or similar to reduce the amount of timing delay?
