I wonder if he also grew up in or near Los Angeles. We had a ton of import shops back then, also Frank and Son over in City of Industry. The prices weren't too crazy either, you just had to know where to look.

It’s just amazing to me how so few parents recorded their kids playing video games. It took Tyler’s dad being a gamer himself to have the desire to record it.
Because most parents tolerated videos… at best.

A couple years ago I realized my Super Retro Trio Galaxy could play super famicom and mega drive games after randomly buying Street Fighter 2 for $10 at a local retro store. I then went shopping on Mercari and started looking for non language dependent imports including several of these since I saw a lot of familiar characters. No idea anyone was playing them stateside back in the day. Very cool!

I’m a Kamen Rider/Super Sentai fan so I’m interested! There are so many Kamen Riders now, but the Kamen Rider in this game is Kamen Rider Black RX, which would be brought to America by the same people who made Power Rangers as Saban’s Masked Rider in the late 90s, despite Black RX being from 1989! Shame Super Sentai isn’t in this, it would have been cool to have played a game with the Power Rangers in it before every kid on the block even knew what they were! Especially if the rep was Zyuranger’s Dragon Ranger (Green Ranger in Power Rangers)

I actually have an understanding of the Japanese language. I've been learning it since my last year in high school.
And Great Battle is actually written as "The Great Battle".
Actually Ultraman has been around since the 60's, not just in Japan.
Kamen Rider was brought to America in the mid 90's as Saban's Masked Rider. Which is what Kamen translates to, "Mask".
My first experience with Gundam was in 2000 when Gundam Wing hit Toonami.
And where did you get that Super Famicom Cartridge to Super Nintendo Adapter? I've noticed that since the Contra III Video.

I managed to talk my little brother into getting a SNES for Xmas ( the year I got the mega CD). All for street fighter 2. My dad got it but as my brother was 4 years younger to make it more appealing to him, dad got the super scope pack. I remember being gutted. Then boxing day comes around and my brother was behind on the school reading scheme so had been sent ' homework ' for the holiday season to try and catch up, (turned out he was dyslexic). My dad smart guy he was showed me SF2 and an extra pad and said. "You help him learn this book and it's all yours" . Myself and my brother joke about it to this day, I kept the poor guy up in our bedroom until 3 o'clock. He learnt to read the book! He says now he couldn't read the words he just knew every page by heart by the end of that night 😂. He said he was literally falling asleep at points and I would get him so fired up telling him about all the cool things you could do in the game that he stuck at it! Most of these 'cool things ' were made up on the spot... Apparently I told him you can't tell the difference between the graphics and a movie, oh and you could play as the transformers ( his favourite thing at the time). Ehh great memories!!! Also I remembered hearing all these cool things about a game called Zelda from my friends (I had never played an RPG up to this point). I went to the local game exchange store and thought I had scored a massive bargain on a JAPANESE ALTTP! Couldn't figure it out though it was crap traded it in 😂. Didn't experience it's brilliance until after I played ocarina as an adult and went and got an English copy 😂.

My father enjoyed gaming with me to a point, but he never seemed to be as aware of what I wanted and what I liked as your father appeared with you in your videos. From watching these videos, I don't recall hearing about what happened with your father. Is that too personal or sensitive? Understandable if so.
