Maybe it was ‘just a horse race’ but it has inspired me to no end. I hadn’t watched any horse race in decades but was drawn to watch the Kentucky Derby that day. What Rich Strike did is amazing! I’m on team Rich Strike for life.

IF that Race Had been Longer, say A MILE and 3/8s, I personally think RICH STRIKE would of Won by Two Lengths Easily. Now it's Going Too come to The Belmont Stakes? What's going too Happen? There is Everyone's Guess and Question. I'm wishing RICH STRIKE, His Lucky Owner's, Eric Reed His Trainer, and everyone involved at T&R Stable's. True. It's an opposite, but equally impossible run... to Secretariat's Belmont T.C. run. I never tire of watching them. Very interesting...what a pro speedskater had to say about this run...the excellent training, running lots of races (part of training, he said), a familiar rider, and maybe most importantly, High Lactate Threshold. He just kept finding more, even at the wire. What a horse!
Very Cool! As a former assistant trainer and professional gambler for a number of years. This was amazing to see. I was at my parents and I started yelling he's gonna catch them. My parents said who. I said the one in 8th, 7th, 6th, now he's down on the rail....It was so exciting to watch.

I cannot "get over" this incredible race! Not even in the race the day before. Worst poll (pole?) position. A Gazillion to 1 odds. Yet, Rich Strike did it & emerged the dirtiest horse in the race (from having mud kicked in his face by every single other horse) ~ and yet, Rich Strike wears the roses! The amount of super equine speed Rich Strike put on when the rail opened up was impossible: he passed 8 horses like a phantom! It gets my heart racing every time. I was stunned when Rich Strike was not entered into the Preakness. Seems the owner & trainer care more about doing what's right & humane for the animal (they know he needs at least 5 weeks between races) than reaping that 2nd crown. I know what I feel. IT FEELS GOOD!
That was the most beautiful race ever I've ever seen other than a 50 to one shot these magnificent horses are from God our Father if only the beauty of these magnificent horses please do not hurt horses please do not take up to slaughterhouses they are a gift from God almighty and pray and hope for all the horses donkeys all animals this planet God Almighty please protect them
Rich Strike is an incredible animal. Once in a lifetime and history. He’s magnificent and beautiful. This Kentucky Derby Race was the best in history hands down.

I am horse person, rode and showed horses with my dad. Traveled all over the southeast showing. I'm saying that because it pays to know your horse and what drives or makes them tick. Not sure If this makes a difference or not but here it is. Rich Strike was very responsive to his jockey. R.S. had a great kick and made a great run. It looked like he was slowing just a bit. Watch what he does coming up behind the 2 lead horses. Is it my imagination or does R.S. look at those 2 horses. It looks like he came through that hole watched the 2 last horses and kicked it into overdrive. Nor sure I'f he could've been beat. But that look!!!
I agree. I immediately thought Seabiscuit (though, he didn't wear a short-cup cheater-blinker, so the eye-balling characteristic was eventually revealed by his pilot, Red Pollard). Not sure if that's 'standard behavior' according to the 'Herd Animal' Manual. 😏Racing would be different these days, if equipment 'fiddling' wasn't so prevalent. Also, if a horse's lactate threshold is low, drugging the horse with Lasix seems a questionable solution to me. I like that Kentucky bans it altogether. Maybe Trainers need to re-train themselves, rather than use 'props' in their efforts to 'produce' for the owners. Thoroughbreds are wicked smart, so I slant towards holding the humans responsible. 🥴

Rich Strike, Rich Strike, Rich Strike, yep what a win and what a horse, but people aren't giving enough credit to the jockey !! Hejust did a phenominal job of picking the right time to make the move to get Rich going and than guiding the horse thru all that traffic, man he just did a superior job and deserves as much credit as the horse if not more!!! Great job!!!
Watch closely as RS calmly looks to his right as he makes his final move. I swear he’s basically saying, ‘I plunked all of you and I can tell you’re totally out of gas. Then the beautiful animal ‘rights’ himself and stares at the finish line and enters the world of the immortals. The upset was complete. There was no answer from his competition.
I keep forgetting that Richie's Grandsire is Curlin (highest earning Thoroughbred in No. Amer. history)! The broodmare sire, Smart Strike, has now produced 2 Derby winners. So, the Pedigree oficionados couldn't have been THAT shocked that Richie would win. Holy Horses, Batman! I watch this over and over, and still can't believe how Richie positively GOBBLED the ground compared to the others. And he clearly eyeballed Epicenter--just like Sea Biscuit would do--with Sonny 'along for the ride' at that point. 80-1....Pfffft! Odds don't mean diddlysquat. All that silence from a gobsmacked crowd (or Wallet-smacked 😏). I had thought experienced bettors would be more prepared for upsets like this one. Richie should have had Int'l accolades similar to those that Flightline received after his awesome Breeder's Cup victory.
God is a female horse...just SURE of it. ;-) Secretariat's DAM line gave him a Heart 2.5x the 'normal' size, and it wasn't a 'birth defect.' Let's see what Rich Strike's dam, Gold Strike, might have passed along...
yes you're right but they're not the Kentucky Derby. You have to qualify to get in so it's like saying, the Super Bowl is just a football game, there are hundreds of football games per day all over the country.

Even at the beginning of the final turn he was at 17th position. This is the best reace of any kind ever. Such a comeback is not real in any measure.
