Giant Danio Fish Care Requirements

  • Aquarium Giant Danio fish care and tank setup. These fish are an awesome addition to larger tanks. Be careful with tank size because I’d hate to see these giant danios in too small of a tank. I talk about all basic parameters such as food, tank mates, water temperature, etc. These truly are perfect dither fish.

I am starting off my 60 gal future mbuna tank with giant danios for a fish-in cycle. didn't think I would love them so much! They are cute, give off BEAUTIFUL shimmers in natural light, and so funny! I have 7, don't think they will be able to spike the ammonia too badly but still testing in case and will be ready to remedy any issues. Great video!

I have 8 giant danios and I keep them with rainbow fish, tiger barbs and plecos and they all get along great. They are the best. I love the constant movement. They are pretty cheap too. They did eat my zebra danios which I didn’t see coming but with the size difference that’s to be expected. I love them and will be keeping them from now on

It was probably your tiger barbs or rainbows that killed your zebras.
Giant Danio is a peaceful fish.

I have 10 Giant Danios in a 37 gal tank for 2 years now and they have quite enough room. They are the best fish I've ever had during over 30 years in the hobby and dozens of tanks. They're hearty, constant schooling, fun to watch swimmers that eat virtually anything that fits. No fuss no muss - super easy to keep: highly tolerant of wide tank parameters (which I stopped checking long ago). Love my Danios🖖🐟

FLIPPING AWESOME TANK & FISH, funny how I found your video
just after I was doing some research of this breed of fish but in the
leopard & zebra danios. Not very much leopard danio info is what
I was mainly looking for, found plenty of zebra info.
Now that I have seen this video, it's got me to thinking on getting
some of these to go WITH the zebra & leopard breed all in a 75 gal
aquarium just get 3 of each breed & let them grow up together.
That way it would be a trio-triplet-tank=(3 of a kind, 3 different breeds)

Giant Danio is a peaceful fish in the community tank and can be kept with other peaceful species regardless of size. However, they will eat fry.
They'll eat anything. A selection of Algae flake, brine shrimp, blood worms occasionally, any insect granules, chopped earthworms, all live insects especially mosquito larvae. They're omnivorous.
A group of seven or more is best and they will keep in a tight school unlike other Danio species who tend to shoal, Giant Danio is a true schooler.
Giant Danio is easy to breed. Half tank full of water, temperature drop to 70-72, spawning mop(s) and a 12 hour light cycle.
They lay about 2 to 3 hundred eggs if which about 120 or more will hatch. Free swimming in about 3 days. Feed fry baby brine shrimp, crushed flake, small micro granules, ect.
Females are fuller bodied and more heavily built than males who are noticeably slender. Females have considerably deeper belly's than males do. Both sexes are of the same length but like mentioned above, the Female is considerably heavier built compared to the male.
In a school of seven you would want a minimum of 4 females. Always keep more females than males in a school to avoid harassment of females.
A long tank is best for this fish, and a good amount of water flow too.
These fish come from rivers with flowing water and current.
Giant Danio is a strong swimmer!
But like all fish require an area where the flow of water subsides to take a break from swimming at times.
Giant Danio is an excellent aquarium fish.

What is the lowest water temp can they survive in ?
I live in Indiana & winter gets pretty cold here if I
was to keep them in a 110 gal stock tank outside.
I have a place that I could close off for a winter
green house set up with power.

I've read they can do with African Cichlids. I may try that with 12 this weekend. Fingers crossed. My African Tank just needs more motion/activity. Thanks Palmer!

They are shoaling fish and if you get a bunch they will school . They are my favorite fish . I have 14 I'm gonna pick up 6 more soon. They are jumpers , I always use a lid if not they would jump out usually at night time . I lost some years ago because I didn't have a lid . Danios are so underrated, they are beautiful. I keep mine In a 60 gallon, I also have cherry barbs angelfish and white clouds .
