- Greetings from San Pedro, Belize - one of the most celebrated destinations in the Caribbean for sport fishing, diving, secluded beaches, and of course...margaritas! At the end of my trip in April 2024, the winds picked up to a mighty 20knts+, which kept us land locked for a few days. While we did enjoy a few days of great fishing, I figured it would be best to enjoy a windy day doing one of my favorite things to do in Belize - exploring San Pedro and Ambergris Caye by Golf Cart!
San Pedro town is known for its dynamic Caribbean culture, excellent food, creative cocktails, and low-key island vibes - but to really get a feel for the island - there is nothing better than taking a golf cart out on safari.
In this episode, my good friend Ken takes us on a golf cart tour of San Pedro and Ambergris Caye, to sample the finest margaritas that Belizean dollars can buy. We journey from the heart of San Pedro town to Matachica Resort, which is a secluded paradise of its own, on the north side of the island. From there, we make our way south to Castaway, Rum Dog, and ultimately my favorite spot in San Pedro town for impeccable Margaritas - Caliente's!
Is It Worth Visiting San Pedro, Belize?
Absolutely! San Pedro is your "jump off" point in Belize for experiencing the very best fishing, diving, drinking, and beach hopping. It's affordable to stay on the island, and renting a golf cart is easy. If you're considering a trip to Belize, San Pedro should definitely be your first stop - so you can become accustomed to Belizean culture and get a sense of the "bustling" side of the islands.
What is San Pedro, Belize known for?
Besides being the largest island off the coast of Belize, Ambergris Caye is home to San Pedro. The town is known for its myriad of tropical resorts, dive shops, restaurants, festive bars, and a low-key island style that is distinctive to the region.
Is it worth renting a golf cart in San Pedro?
Yes! You should absolutely rent a golf cart in Belize and experience for yourself what island life feels like. You really can't go wrong. Renting a golf cart in San Pedro, Belize is easy, affordable, and an incredibly good time. It's really the best way to get around, because most of the bars and restaurants are spread out. And why walk, when you can putter along sandy streets in your very own ride!

That's a perfect time to explore the island. Less busy than most of the summer months. Be sure to ride up to Secret Beach!

How far do them golf carts go ? Im coming next month & my airbnb is about 30 minutes north of downtown San Pedro
That's a long way outside town, but certainly closer to secret beach. Golf cart mileage depends on how you drive! A full tank of gas usually runs for a week.
