The goddess of that Mayan alter on the ceremony is not Maya! It’s name is Xochipilli (from aztec flower’s princess) and is from the Aztecs from the center of Mexico (Mexico city now), this show indeed a hidden side of the current ceremony sold to tourists, are not authentic mayan ceremonies, also the Temazcal or Temazcalli in Náhuatl (the language of the aztecs again) is a tradition from the cultures of the center of México, not Mayan at all, this was newly introduced in the region to sell it to tourists, specially the super commercial Dos Palmas, sad but truth, I’m a Náhuatl speaker and born from indigenous family.

My wife and I stayed in Tulum for 3 amazing weeks back in '96. We rented a palapa on the beach in Don Armando's and the Santa Fe campgrounds. We were back packing around Mexico but with a car, 11 weeks to circumnavigate the whole coast of the country. If I'd known then what I know now we would have spent the whole 11 weeks right there. We snorkeled all day, lazed on the beach, and drove into town at night to eat at the many roadside restaurants and eateries. It was one of the most relaxing times of my life.
don armando and santa fe were destroyed by hurracaine, they didnt continue. Santa Fe after many years of abandon , start a trendy ecologic resort in 2023.
@Pedro VIVAMXadventures That is so sad. We went back a few times over the years, tried once to show the area to some friends but the whole place, including Tulum town, had changed so much. It's the same problem everywhere around the world, your old neighborhood etc. You can never go back. It's just doubly sad when it's such a spectacular place as Tulum.

I went to Tulum in 1987 before it became what it is now. It was a magical experience. We had an elderly Mayan man as our tour guide. The ruins on the beach seemed surreal like something from an Indiana Jones movie. It's just sad to see what it's become.

Great video. It strongly reflects what we see here on Bali where i have been living for a decade now. Out of control development along the coast, making way for one new beach club after the other. The result is no more local feeling at the beaches, hard to find local food in these areas, and let along affordable food for local people. Social media really has destroyed these places.

I really appreciate your efforts in making a great video and striving to get as authentic a view as possible for us. Your work is exceptional. Great video Malini, I traveled to Tulum over 14 years ago, when all of Tulum wss still a hidden gem. This video is so necessary for multiple reasons. Awesome doc.
I stayed in a bungalow on the beach for $5 per night in 1993. BTW.... Mayans are not going to sell their authentic ceremonies. That 'ceremony' was staged for tourists, using a mixture of symbols, songs, and traditions from North, Central, and South American traditions (and a bit of new age). Regardless, it's still good to support local people and I'm sure the temazcal felt lovely.
My wife is from Mexico and wonderful people. Love your video on TH-cam and may God Richly Bless you and may Jesus Christ show you His GREAT love that He has for each of YOU ❤️ Just ask Him to show you personally His Love as He did to me years ago 😊
What a wonderful video! I was an off grid solar contractor in Santa Barbara and I got hired many times to go down to Tulum to do solar for the small resorts on the beach. I had a lot of really good times down there.
Malini, this is an amazing documentary. I love how you focused on the essence of Mayan culture. Very pure journey. I will be exploring more of your journeys. Thank you and your team!
Thank you for a non-touristic tour of Tulum: For INTEGRATING with local people; fusing with the entire econatural life--trees, water, air and sea; and allowing the LIFE that breathes there to move you and become part of your being.
Malini! Great work to show us places that we relate to, great content and the way it’s being filmed, the narratives is just great, complements to your whole team.
Thank you for the introduction to the subject. I am thankful that I have the chance to visit the area by viewing your video. I hope that wisdom will be a product of a gentler version of tourism that helps to preserve these cultures and locations.
I visited Tulum in 2008, I stayed in a cabaña by the beach and early one morning a truck load of Mayans arrived, they had arrived to greet the sunrise. I joined them in a game of football, such friendly people. I swam in the cenotes and also visited Cobá where there are many Mayan temples.
Thank you so much for this fascinating doc of Tulum and ancient Mayan culture which share similar spiritual beliefs, mythological practices even cooking methods of the first ancient seafaring navigators settlers of the south pacific islands. When tourism is the only means of economic prosperity it also becomes the monkey on the backs of the local populace environment etc- glad you subtly icluded that at end of your wonderful narration.
Wow! Stumbled on this video doing research for a class on American Indian Spirituality and will be citing this. Thank you for your storytelling style and showcasing the local community and experiences.
Sounds like what happened to Negril Jamaica. It was once a small fishing village until the resorts moved in. On the plus side there's a law that says no buildings can be taller than the palm trees. The Wife and I were lucky enough to visit Negril in the early days before it was taken over by the resorts. We cant stand the all inclusive places where they discourage people from exploring and claim it's to dangerous for tourist which is true to a certain extent but the Wife and I have some friends there and we go into the bush with them to see the real Jamaica.
I love your video! I was just in Tulum for 7 days and stayed at an Airbnb that was close to Tulum Centro. We had a car but I rented ATV to get around easier. I plan on going back next year. I will use your recommended tour guides. Thank you for sharing.

Mexico is a beautiful country. You'll love Tulum Mexico. In addition to its archaeological beauty, Tulum is also popular for its beaches and powdery sand coastline, which stretches 10 miles to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve. Greetings from Fort Worth, Texas...
I was there when they first discovered mu yil it was still covered in trees. They were trying to clear it out and we were the only ones there and those raccoon looking creatures are so nice they run through the resorts. It’s amazing very glad you got a chance to see it when we were there, we were allowed to climb on the ruins, and sat under the old thatched roofs and things like that it was amazing
This documentary is absolutely fantastic. So much interesting information about the Maya culture and I really liked seeing you interact with locals and try different experiences in person. Amazing! Subscribed!
I am native from México and, I hate to break it to you but, there was nothing Maya (Mayan) in this video. I did see bits and pieces of Azteca history but, that's the extent of it. What's in the video is the gibberish sold to tourists.

For any of you considering floating along in the cenotes (canals) near Sian Ka'an, please note that there are crocodiles all over that area. There are people who "specialize" in crocodile tours where you can see crocodiles in their natural habitat. The last thing most sane people want to do is become part of a crocodile's natural habitat. They aren' the same species as the giant-sized saltwater crocodiles you might encounter in Costa Rica, usually "only" growing to about 10 feet long. But that's more than big enough.
I am visiting Tulum soon. Last year in Playa Del Carmen i booked a $999 mx tour by bus to see chitzen itza including lunch buffet with a similar mayan ritual welcome ceremony. Thank you for your video.
I was in Tulum and I had a guide with more time I would of def loved to have experienced the more spiritual side to the connection we have to Cancun\Tulum. We must understand that in order for us to incorporate it into our being we have to Synch in with the Earth and its connection to our spirits and align.
Great segment First time there was 2005 , still a sleepy town, talk of development . Glad you were able to experience it and not from a mega resort pool bar Cool channel!!🙂
I"ve been in Tulum for the first time the Beaches are Incredible Beautiful. So sad we didn't have enough time to explore and see how realy Locals live. I've also been to Cenote
Temascal is the name of a neighborhood here in Oakland. From what i read it is a Nahuatl word for a sauna. “The word temescal derives from the word temescalli, which means "sweat house" in the Nahuatl language of the Mexica ("Aztec")”.
First time I went to Tulum was about 20 years ago. It was authentic back then. I would go over to Cozumel to scuba dive. Unfortunately, big businesses and tourists have ruined the ambiance. Now I prefer some of the Japanese islands. What a beautiful and intelligent girl you are! Safe travels. Much love and light to you.
Found you’re channel by randomly looking at Oman blogs & I enjoyed you’re Oman trip….. I plan to visit Oman one day & for Tulum I’ve visited it twice & it’s nice but I agree with what you say, it’s a tourist trap & to experience the authentic Mexican culture is hard around the Yucatán Peninsula…. Would recommend you going to San Luis Potosí ! Where I’m from ✊🏽! It’s a secret tourist hot spot. 😁 stay safe & saludos
Hello, may I ask, is it possible to share the information for the man in the video for his tour? Thank you! 🙏🏻

Thank you for making this video, and for your final recommendation to tourists. YES, México, especially from the center of the country all over to the southern Riviera Maya is full of culture, history, and nature. Unfortunately, Tulum started with a plan for becoming a destination for cultural and eco-tourism but ended up attracting tons of shallow hippies not interested in the most important aspects of the region. Finally, I kindly invite you to fact-check our history related to one specific topic, Human Sacrifices. You'll realize it is more a myth than a reality. As with any other ancient culture, there were conflicts and some crazy individuals, but the critical sources for claiming "human sacrifices" are weird interpretations of ancient texts written AFTER the invasion from Spain, rare interpretations of other interpretations, testimonies of a very few invaders, and testimonies of local people under torture during the invasion and colonization. There are places such as Cholula, where the same invaders from Spain claimed to have locked up thousands of natives and burned them down... but hey!! Those are NOT human sacrifices, according to them! Check this paper: www.eccser.org/readings/readhassler.pdf Again, THANK YOU!!!! 🙏
Okay, I'm in . . . I really appreciate to all-round quality of this video and the way you present the conflict between the local culture and the invasive commercialization. Thank you for sharing.

the near future 😊🙏
@@Malini.Angelica I look forward to that.
I love the approach on this video is authentic and educational. You captured the real Tulum and create a strong awareness. Well done!
This is a part ofy culture with Azteca natives Were all truly always have a genuine connection to the roots we God's creation coming to this lifetime of paradise The part is yet come the new earth And new heaven Awesome!!

Agree they are some of the nicest people!
I love it.. I visited Tulum and was not aware of these areas. Will definitely love to explore more when I return! Thank you 🙏🏾
What a wonderful video! I was an off grid solar contractor in Santa Barbara and I got hired many times to go down to Tulum to do solar for the small resorts on the beach. I had a lot of really good times down there.
Thanks for sharing!
Malini, this is an amazing documentary. I love how you focused on the essence of Mayan culture. Very pure journey. I will be exploring more of your journeys. Thank you and your team!
Awesome video! I’m glad to see foreign like you enjoying our pure culture. Muchas gracias por este hermoso video ❤
I could feel the respect and love with which you made this video. You also captured very acuratelly what Tulum is!! I loved your video 🤗
What a refreshing depiction especially on The Essence of The Mayan cultural aspects. That's how you make a presentation!💫💯🙏
Thank you for a non-touristic tour of Tulum: For INTEGRATING with local people; fusing with the entire econatural life--trees, water, air and sea; and allowing the LIFE that breathes there to move you and become part of your being.
That dog @ 3:25 having the best afternoon nap of his life lol. So beautiful! ❤
Malini! Great work to show us places that we relate to, great content and the way it’s being filmed, the narratives is just great, complements to your whole team.
Awesome, thank you!
Gracias por recordarnos lo bello que es México....
Sounds amazing!!
Thank you for showing the old traditions of the mayans. I have seen a lot of Mayan sites, but not their authentic culture. Thank you.
Thank you. Nice video. Great information. Good quality cinematography and beautiful host!
I have a condo if you are interested!
@@gladlock I plan on going back in May. Do you have WhatsApp?

I just went to Tulum and loved it! I definitely want to check out the experiences you mentioned the next time I go. Like you, I would like to avoid the touristy scene and try to experience the authentic local culture as much as possible.
Then dont go to tulum. Bad city if you want a non turist exp
@@nathanross1684Like I said, I just went to Tulum and loved it :) My group found a knowledgeable local guide that did a good job of showing us around without getting too swept up in the tourist scene. Different strokes for different folks though.

This is a great way to experience ancient Maya culture. Gracias!
I loved Tulum, and the cave diving. Beautiful and unique. "Where the sky is born", what an awesome name!
Just got back from Tulum family vacation, worth every penny!!!
TULUM, es un lugar hermoso cuántas ganas me da entrar a nadar por esos ríos...
One of my favorite episodes, right after your trip to Crete.
Those were the best videos by any traveler on TH-cam.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Muyil was very calm and relaxed we really enjoyed this part of Tulum!

But that's more than big enough.
wow, is awesome this video, the narrative and edition are perfect, welcome to Mexico.
I love to see your adventures and stories. You are a gem.
Great professional video on the Mayan influence in Tulum. Your work is very impressive.
The closing statement really got me 😢 wow you’re amazing I’m short of words, stay blessed
We must understand that in order for us to incorporate it into our being we have to Synch in with the Earth and its connection to our spirits and align.
what an awesome video. Love ancient history of the indigenous.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Absolutely love her accent. Great video!
Great video! Very entertaining and very informative! You are a beautiful soul.
Nice video, been to Talum 22 yrs ago,it will be forever in my heart
I think more people would seek more authentic Mexican experiences if they were not worried about their safety. Mexico needs to get that under control.
Wow love the production quality of this video. Thanks for diving deep into Mayan culture. Loooking forward to my trip to Tulum.
Thank you! I hope you have an amazing time 😊
Great segment
First time there was 2005 , still a sleepy town, talk of development . Glad you were able to experience it and not from a mega resort pool bar
Cool channel!!🙂
Thank you 🙏
@@Malini.Angelica go 2 israel;;;;;
Very nice presentation of Tulum .. I lived the hidden side of tulum for almost two years and loved every bit of it. well done
So nice isn’t it!

Best video yet. So glad to see another side to Tulum
Thank you Jan, there is a very authentic side to Tulum and you just need to know where to look 😊

Okay, I'm in . . . I really appreciate to all-round quality of this video and the way you present the conflict between the local culture and the invasive commercialization. Thank you for sharing.
Lived in Tulum Centro for six months. Paradise.
Thank you for taking us thru the road less travelled! 🙏🏼
This video is made very well. It felt like I was right there in Telum. I really enjoyed seeing the sights and culture. Very interesting and relaxing video on a beautiful location.
Thank you so very much for planning our next trip to Mexico!
You got me! Excellent work!
Great video. I miss Tulum. One of my favourite locations. No where else have I felt so relaxed.
Thank you for the very informative video. We have visited Tulum main ruins once and Coba but would love to explore more of the Mayan culture.
