This is very timely since I was writing an ansible playbook on removing snaps just last night
Great video, very easy to follow along with clear and concise instruction and direction. I must subscribe, thank you bro!
Such a smooth voice. I almost went asmr trance during oh my zsh
Excelente trabalho, adorei as dicas sobre como remover o snap 👏👏
brilliant work, thankyou so much.
You're very welcome!
THANKS-- GREAT VIDEO!!
Lovely guide for those that want to rid of snaps from their Ubuntu install. Though I think the whole taking a while to load an application is dependent on someones setup, as for me, it's near instant that the app launches.
Agreed.
Really really thanks bro.
Great stuff
I use lubuntu and i tried the same steps but at the end there is an installation notice from snap-installation-monitor (Finilizinf installation of snaps, please wait...) and it show after every boot, How to stop it?
can you make a video on how to backup the steam game on Ubuntu and how to restore it on another Ubuntu PC?
Great guide with every single step to make it failsave and persistent!
It is a bit redundant though, there still seem to be duplicate appstores and snapd can just be uninstalled and removed inside apt, without masking the service.
Also the firmware updater is missing, GNOME has a flatpak for that, not sure about apt.
Installing Flatpak instead would be a good idea.
man great!
KSK, brilliant, easy to follow
Thank you so much
Hi @kskroyal I followed your video to uninstall snap packages. But can you give a recommendation of mailing app as thunderbird was installed.
I personally remove snap related stuff. You can install mail app as DEB package later if you want.
Hello
Thanks to your video
but on big question : Why canonical install snap on ubuntu and don't remove from newer versions ?
Snap is their own project so they include it with ubuntu
I cannot import my bookmarks and data from chrome using mozilla snap version
Good video, currently i use firefox as deb and did not remove snapd. Where is the benefit of removing it?
If yu didn't set the priority as outlined, any updates to FF will be to the Snap version.
hey can tell me, how to minimize windows in hyprland? (hyprdots)
See this guide: wiki.hyprland.org/0.22.0beta/Configuring/Uncommon-tips--tricks/
Timeshift doesn't work for me. After making a snapshot it does not appear in the list in the gui even though disk space has been consumed by storage of the snap. How to fix this ?
It should appear if the backup was successful.
thanks a lot sir , can you share to us the best screen record for ubuntu?
OBS
I need a big help. I am trying to connect my windows to my linux distro i.e Ubuntu for file transfer. But having tried multiple configurations and the easy installation guide process, I was still unable to connect to it. For the record, I installed the SSH server and is actively running, Tried To bridge the Connections between my ethernet and my Wifi and Lost the Internet connection, Disabled Firewall and checked for all other things that could potentially block the connectivit y between the Host System and The Guest. Can you tell me how to proceed from here? I am unable to find any more ways to solve this issue. Thanks in advance!
You can make the SSDs visible on Linux, so you can drag files to and from.
This is the easiest way to make these transfers.
Hey! Very useful instruction! Thank you for what you're doing for all ubuntu users. I'm having an issue with removing firefox. First, I tried your command, the result was: failed to remove snap "firefox"... Here is the whole thing from my terminal: $ sudo snap remove firefox
error: cannot perform the following tasks:
- Remove data for snap "firefox" (4209) (failed to remove snap "firefox" base directory: remove /root/snap/firefox: directory not empty) After that I tried another approach: $ sudo snap remove --purge firefox
error: cannot perform the following tasks:
- Remove data for snap "firefox" (4209) (failed to remove snap "firefox" base directory: remove /root/snap/firefox: directory not empty)
Could you please give me a hint what went wrong? And how I can handle it? Thank you, bro!
I want to learn nix os but reluctant because want dual boot Ubuntu or Kali. If it isn't straight forward easy could you do tut for that?
will try.
@@kskroyaltech I am just going to see if not simple enough. I've acquired an old laptop. Wanting to learn Nix OS for Cardano. Just seems so so daunting
THANKS
Thanks
The problem I'm having is the CTRL+O and CTRL+X is not saving the last step or allowing me to exit the terminal and I'm not seeing another way to save and exit. Thanks in advance.
CTRL +X , for save ( y )
Hey! I have installed Ubuntu but I have some problems related to their scroll speed and mouse cursor. But more with scroll speed. How do I fix it?
See this blog: www.baeldung.com/linux/mouse-scroll-speed
Press the dpi button on top of the mouse, it changes the mouse cursor speed.
well with using preload there is not much a need of removing the snaps and moreover there are many software that are exclusively available to snaps (not considering third party packaging)
Right. So I try to avoid snap but recently I wasn't feeling well and the postman install looked a little convoluted so I just snaps it
Hi, being a beginner to this Linux, I have installed ubuntu MATE, If I proceed with the above mentioned steps in my system, Do I get any issues? Please someone help me.
Atleast try I don’t think so you will face any issue
Back up with time shift and give a try.
Took a long time to come to my perspective but if new and get frustrated with deep dives and errors, you can use synaptic manager. I can't count the times over the years that I did fresh Ubuntu install because I tinkered to the point of jankiness. There's no way around errors at some point. Just remember it's important to find balance, whether with using snap or whatever to use the OS for utility or just to learn the OS itself
And I mean this to say that you want to progress to learn not only through errors but actually learning Linux itself(fundamentals!)as ksk says use time shift
there is no file for ventura
Why would you install Chrome and not Firefox from their official deb repo?
I guess to avoid snap from installing it? I think that is not needed, as its already disabled.
if you run sudo apt install Firefox after deleting snapd, APT will throw an error. That's why I followed manual pattern like adding keys, configuring apt with Firefox repo, and making prioritize ..
Hey can you make a video in grub rescue error it happened with me I have updated windows 11 update and after restart it’s showing my grub rescue problem basically I am having triple boot I cannot explore Linux how to solve this problem
Bro windows updates sucks. Just turn off those updates when you have linux alongside windows.
Microsoft releases every day new updates and the way they manage updates is 🤮.
When I have linux alongside windows, the first thing I do is to turn off windows automatic updates.
@@kskroyaltech I was thinking the same thing for solution
@@kskroyaltech so do I have to disable Linux update too?
Only Windows
@@kskroyaltech what if I installed Linux on my external ssd and using it also in external ssd so when my external not connected to my laptop still I shouldn’t update windows?
Use Debian 12 Gnome and customize it❤ for how don't like ubuntu recent activities
Isn't firmware updater an important package?
yes. Until and unless you are contained with the current firmware and doesn't want your system to be updated later on, you should keep that snap
I didn't see its useful for me. I never used this feature in ubuntu tbh. This is a new feature added to 23.10 build on wards if I am correct.
it's NOT working on arm64 ⚠ , someone have any idea please??
Let me test out myself.
Bro how to enable it after removing it please make a video on it!!
Just restore the backup .. Everything is back again.
Can you try rhino linux
Will try.
Why not just use Vanilla debian?
Ubuntu gets the latest gnome desktop first
You forget one thing because if you
Install a package in the terminal then it
Will install it as a snap i had that experience
You also need to block snap it self
3:30 he already gave the way to prevent it
Yep that's why I marked snapd to be held by APT. You also need a preference file to prevent snap from installing again. Watch from 2:57 to 4:30.
Just switch to Debian! (Or to Linux Mint
Bro why don't you make script for it it will be cool
Good idea.
You might as well use something else like arch or fedora or Debian.
Arch is not a good system to use if your new. Sometimes people want to USE what they know. For those not new and want Ubuntu this is the way to go. I don't want Fedora or Arch. This works well if you follow the video perfectly.
The alternative (and safer) solution would be to just install Linux Mint.
Also, go straight to Debian.
@@fixer1140
Garuda 🎉
Linux mint lacks gnome desktop... I personally feel like cinnamon is not for me
The biggest prblm of Mint is its doesn't come with KDE or GNOME by default.
@@fixer1140 Or that, yes.
Doing this CAN break your system I did this and Ubuntu crashed after a month or two. DO your homework so you know how to fix when it give the error message and crashes.
i have no problem with snap
That's fine. On modern hardware snaps work fine.
I don’t think removing snaps makes Ubuntu great… gonna need to do a lot more.
I use arch btw
Not safe
HOW is not safe ? We just removed Snap that's it.
MUGA!
BS
Yea snap sucks, bye bye snap
I'm not a snap fan but I'm not a Trump fan either.
