  • Say goodbye to FLATS! In todays video we test to see if we can FILL a BMX tire with EXPANDING FOAM!
Now this is not some ground breaking news. This is done with many tractors, lawnmowers, etc to prevent flat tires. Long story short we see if we can do this with BMX tires. IF you guys enjoyed this video then DEFINITELY drop a FAT like and FAT subscribe

I foamed my wagon tires. I got much better results by pulling the inner tube and drilling holes at the 12,3,6 and 9 o’clock positions. Keep putting enough in that it comes out the other holes.

Definitely this is a skill lol. Most importantly wear gloves. This stuff is almost like super glue on the hands. Yea im thinking just a little at time in each whole slowly beause it expands significantly! It also leaks out of the hole. Try adding one hole at a time in succession as well. Maybe 3 or 4 maximum holes. Yup makes sure the inside of the tire is open and no air inside im thinking too.

You need to drill very small holes around the tire to release the air so it fills evenly

I know this video is pretty old but I figured this may help someone who is currently looking into doing the same thing! I foamed my wagon tires and I made four holes on the same side of the tire! But the most important part is you need to take the tube out! You don't want the tube in there! You're going to also want to spray just a little bit of water in each hole, this will help the end result have fewer air bubbles in it as well! You're going to have an overflow! What I did was I let it come out of the holes for a good minute or two, then I plugged all but one of the holes and then wrapped the tires in plastic wrap (because it kept pushing out the bolts lol! Andi didn't have tape strong enough to hold them in place! I felt that plugging three out of the four holes helped it expand more to the tire instead of towards the holes as in it was denser without the risk of big air pockets
! Also WEAR GLOVES!!!!!! If you get it on yourself or anything you can use acetone to remove it before it cures! Make sure it is safe to do so for whatever material you're going to be applying the acetone too! You can also put some into a large zip lock baggie, toss the straw and nozzle into the baggie with the acetone and shake the hell out of it and use a qtip or three to get all that foam out of the nozzle and straw then use those qtips to add some to the spout on the can or just drip a few drops of the acetone in the hole of the spout on the can itself and you will be able to reuse it instead of it being trash!

If you end up revisiting this you should take a clear balloon and fill it with some of the foam and tie it off and just see what it does when it doesn't have that contact with the air. Then after about a day you could poke a hole into the balloon and really understand how the expanding foam was working in your tires after you popped them.

What about putting foam in a deflated tire and then pressurizing it with air? The added air should cause the foam to fully expand inside the tire. I think you would have to determine how much air per can of foam is needed to allow full expansion. The foam manufacturer may have the answer.

HAND CLEANING TIP: When you get foam on your hands rub them on dirt or sand to first make it stop sticking then use lacquer thinner to remove it while you rub it off with sand or whatever you used. Same thing as with oil based paints, first rubbing your hands in some grit to absorb the material does make the solvent do its job easier. Thank me later.

to have the foam work right you have to drill a hole on the opposite side of the valve stem so all the compressed air will escape and not have the foam spray everywhere when you pull the can off the valve

    • @ericmartin6657
      @ericmartin6657 2 ปีที่แล้ว

That's right I learned that from my own experiment with spraying foam in my moped tire. As you have to either drill holes in the tire or spray in the tire as it's off the rim so I can completely dry first.

The point is air interacts with the tires material which is rubber contracts and expands as need it, that’s why we use it in the cars industry as well, so far nothing is been able to replace that technique yet, but hey I get the point, try new things, discover new things, that’s the way things happen, great video thanks.

I'd explain what went wrong but you already figured it out at the popping of the tire when it went flat, the liquid foam mixed with oxygen and started expanding! if you could fill it up without mixing any outside air how you did with the front tire, it would work as a good fix for getting your bike home after a flat the problem is that you got it to work in one tire but not the other and you were lucky to get that. I tried the same thing but I wanted to test the outcome for the average biker. I went to twenty bike shops and had each one try it on two tires each, knowing that each one of these people have changed hundreds of bike tires as a profession and out of fouty tires I got seven to fill up the tubes on the bike without messing it up in one way or another. so it's a good idea in theory but in practice it needs a better way of getting the liquid in after removing 100% of what's already in the tube AND not letting any outside air mix in while filling it. Did you remove "ALL" the air from the tubes when you did it or was there a little left in there? I had to manually remove what was left of the air by sucking it out with aquarium airline tubing stretched over the air intake of the tube before I filled mine and that kept it 100% liquid until i poked it with a nail and it filled it back up in only a few minutes but when I stabbed it with a knife it took close to an hour and it foamed out all over the place and you could feel the difference between the foam and the air while you ride it.

In the 90's you could get foam-filled tyres that were also in neon colours, advertised as "puncture proof". A British comic advertised them with a half-page strip re-using the American advertising material, which was set in LA and about kids able to go and get help after an earthquake even though there was broken glass all on the streets. It was basically a foreign language to British kids, of course.

I would lay the bike on its side spin the wheels frequently and let it dry for about 45 days to be sure it's cured. several years ago they had foam tubes I installed on a bike it left it pretty rigid but I don't see them anymore at the box store I'm going to have to look online and see if they still sell them.

The moment I saw the thumbnail for the video I knew you would have this problem... The issue is that expanding polyurethane as you thought is air cured, I had to make a model of a cell when I was a kid so I thought the easiest way to do it would be to get a bouncy ball, fill it up with expanding foam then cut a quarter of it away like a diagram in a book, after 2 days it was still liquid inside, what you could do like I ended up doing is cut the hole out to begin with or cut the tire into a string, then clamp one end, hang it up and slowly do squirt after squirt though you can only do layers less than a few inches deep at a time so that would take you rather a long while to fill the tire up then just bend it into place like the pool noodle tires. you could also try to put a can full or even a quarter of a can full into the tire, let out all the air, then pump it up full of air and let it sit for 20 min then repeat the process letting the air out then re filling it again and that might let it cure. Good luck!!!

the foam works in things that don't spin at high RPM.. I have done it to my snowblower tires..Been 4 years without a flat on my snowblower.. where you went wrong was not putting vent holes in the tire so the foam can expand and fill the tire.. I did 4 holes.. 1 every 90* around the tire ..That way it allows the foam to expand evenly in the tire.. no flat spots.. The foam needs air contact to actually expand and cure..putting it in a sealed tube wont cut it...

I’m watching this becuz I’ve had the same idea the only issue with inside the tire is will enough air get to it to cure 100% and gotta also know the max to put in becuz it does expand so match but it’s gotta be stiff enough especially for long term it be a great replacement tho that foam would only be a prototype idea would have to make your own expanding foam that cures more stiffer and just as light maybe flexi seal be another idea

Rub a decent coating of Vaseline gel on your hands before you work with sticky/messy products. The gel creates an oily barrier on the surface of your skin, nothing will stick. Then just simply wipe it off, apply again if need be.

Try using flexible foam then another silicon caulking filler or flexible clear caulk its expensive $9.00 per tub probably need 10 tubes.
