My boy loved his mat and did really well with it but he wasn't rolling up in his and the toys responded to movement and not just grabs. Thank you so much for mentioning the play mat as a regret!!!! I am on baby #2 and every time I go to the store and see a playmat I get somewhat guilty and think to myself am I depriving him of something by not giving in and getting one. This made me feel so much better and confident in my decision not to get one!

I started mine the day he came home! You can start by flipping them over for 15-30 seconds when you’re changing them and increasing time from there, introducing a mat, etc

My baby (not yet rolling) loves his play mat. He loves this one snail that has a ball in it that you can roll and it makes noices. Since he's 2 1/2 - 3 months he's trying to roll it and he just doesn't get tired of it. I can park him there all day. I think the trick is to get the right one. His grandma got him one for her home and he's super uninterested in it.
My almost 3 month old LOVES his playmat. He lays on it and bats at the toys and just smiles and coos at it. My 4 year old hated his and I wasn't going to buy one but someone bought my baby one and he happened to love it. Every baby is different.
Same for my 4 month old daughter! She actually has the pink playmat that's linked in the description box. It's the only place I can put her down lol. It keeps her entertained for a long time! My friend got the boy version for her son who is a week younger, and they play side-by-side lol
Same thing with my son . well now hes crawling and dosnt stay on it that long but stil likes to play with its toy or when he is tired just lay there and rest a little . Its a must have for me .

Fun fact about growth and development in babies, is that they love high contrast visual stimuli because their eyesight is not great until about 10-12 months. so they can see the high contrast a lot easier.
Kobi loooooves his OBall. He also actually loves his playmat too, but he had a smaller one when he was 2 months old, and now he has a big one with stuff dangling as well as stuff on the mat so he has something to play with when he rolls over (crinkle paper is his FAVORITE)
Rather than the standard play mat, we went with the Infantino Play Gym and Teepee :) It's plenty big enough to roll in (and out of lol) and once my son outgrows the hanging toys I can remove them and he can use the teepee as a fort :D

Love your more minimal approach to baby things! Thanks for the video. So far, my 2.5mo has loved the Lovevery play mat and it's been 100% worth it. I think because it's somewhat customizable throughout their stages, it makes a difference. She loves the B&W cards we attach and she loves batting at the ball and rattle. It's also super sturdy and they can't get wrapped up in it.

They make a dog toy just like that ball. I bought one for my golden retriever and he loved it for the same reasons you said baby loved it! He started with it as puppy and now is full grown and still loves it.
I got my bumbo used as well and to get the straps all u have to do is go to their website and fill out a form and they will send you the kit for free u pay no shipping or anything. It was part of the recall issue they had a few years back :)

Hi! Something I remember from when my little sister was a baby was a play mat buttt not like the dangling time. It was a big quilt that had different colors and textures and sounds. Even at 6 years of age, I remember enjoying sitting down with my then baby sister.
I highly recommend the Lovevery play gym (play mat)! Its awesome! Its large and each edge has a different pattern with different sensory pieces. And the company is awesome. We had a house fire and lost everything for our 4 month old. Someone noticed the gym in a photo and sent it to the company and they sent me a new one with a sweet note. And it has a tent to use later on.
Yes love every is awesome. Although I don't have but I have sent them and what it comprises of. I have twins but I can not afford it. I don't mind if someone helps me with this. Used or new. We would really appreciate.
Hi Natalie! First off, I love your channel. I’ve been watching the boys we’re little babes. My son’s are three (almost four) and almost six months (our pregnancies were neck to neck). I really enjoyed your weekly updates with Haley! I just wanted to let you know, (not trying to bring any hate) but a bumbo is not a safe seat for babies to eat in. Especially baby-led weaning. It dips down so the are sitting straight and it is a choking hazard! I learned that in a BLW course! Just want your babes to be safe :)
We got a skip hop play mat it's brilliant. I agree other mats are bit useless. This one is large flexible toys can be pulled down a also the arch can be used on the tummy.
My son didnt move around for like the first year, so he actually loved the play blankets. Its so interesting to see what kinds of different needs our little adorable humans need. :)

The play mat was a MUST for us, and we started using it at 6 weeks (long before my baby could roll or get tangled, like you say). It was a great place for him to practice focusing on objects, explore body movements, and have alone time. He found his hands for the first time, rolled for the first time, and grabbed a toy for the first time all on his play mat.
I love my popyum bottles. These are the best bottles for late night feedings. You can put the formula and water in the same bottle and mix them when ready. This bottle has been a lifesaver at church or the mall.

I would agree with the playmat for that age. My baby liked it around 2-3 months. I bought a very simple one that was on sale. He just liked laying there and looking up at and batting the toys. He was a little late to roll so that wasn’t a problem. Not being able to grab and chew on the toys was his biggest frustration. I also agree sofie 💯 percent! Something about the rubber and squeaker! My must have is a jumperoo! We started it at around 3.5 months. He is 6 months now and he can jump for hours!

I found the Bumbo seat an absoluteust-have with all 3 my babies...makes a wonderful seat for them to feel part of what's going on around them and also makes a great feeding chair when sitting on the floor.

omggg! It happened to me the same thing with my play-mat, afterwards we bought those that are actually pretty big and you can make them bigger, like a puzzle, so that is wonderful
I agree that playmats are not a necessity item. My 5month old does fine on larger baby blankets/quilts on the floor instead. My lo didn't take to the Bumbo seat. She was born with a bad neck torsion so she still finds some forms of sitting uncomfortable. She enjoys standing more so she has been loving an exercsaucer instead.
babies can't really see a lot of colors when they are newborns or even a bit older they see in high contrast whites and blacks which is why it is super stimulating to them
Bentley was 6 months on the 26th of October and he loves the crinkle paper, teething rings you put in the fridge or freezer, his jolly jumper. I have a fisher price sit me up frog seat I use to feet him in. We use the love to dream swaddle, when really tired as soon as his hands are in it his eyes roll back and his asleep in a few minutes. He doesn’t roll yet but I will be lost when he does because he loves his arms up like that and they say don’t use those swaddles once baby can roll.
Babies love black and white because that are the colours they can see clearly. Everything else is just a blur. Black and white are verdy defined colours. Thats why babies like them, because they can see these colours very well. :)
Hey Natalie! I’ve watched your videos since the boys were born and absolutely love watching! I just wanted to give you a heads up about the Bumbo and baby led weaning. I did BLW with my now 14 month old and loved it. I took a class on the topic before we started, and the instructor was adamant that a Bumbo should not be used for BLW. She said that it doesn’t provide proper alignment for chewing and swallowing. Now, I haven’t been able to find any professional recommendations on the topic (probably because there’s not a lot of “official” recommendations about BLW in the first place) but the info made sense to me. When first starting out, the safest place is said to be a high chair with foot support. I hope it’s ok that I share; I just wanted to let you know because I had no idea that the Bumbo wasn’t ideal, and I definitely had planned to use it before I got that info. Thanks again for sharing your sweet videos! ❤️
Jen C thanks for the heads up! We only use the bumbo when feeding her purées. (We’re doing a hybrid of BLW and purées with Hailey.) I don’t think even makes sense from a messiness standpoint but totally makes sense from a swallowing- mechanics safety standpoint as well!
Natalie Bennett oh yes, the mess is a little tough. But my daughter eats *everything* now. Some of her more “exotic” favs are spicy curries (some that even make my eyes water), sushi, brussel sprouts, and sardines. Things a lot of adults won’t even touch, haha. My husband and I are adventurous eaters though, so we’re really proud of her. Hailey will do great!

Both my kids love that piano too! And yes, my husband and I still randomly sing the songs from it! Funny how different babies are, I found the Bumbo to be totally useless--both my babies hated it!
I'm going to have to disagree with the playmat. My baby absolutely loves hers and later it converts into a ballpit which I'm pretty sure she will love aswell.
I think the reason your little girl is enjoying the play and white book is because newborns only see in black and white. So essentially really that book is grabbing your daughters attention because she sees those colors already. We think that dressing our babies nurseries in bright colors is great to mesmerize them and grab there attention but really it does the opposite. Those colors look muted and grey in the eyes of newborns. Until they start to grow and develop more that is when they start to see more colors in the world. I believe a TH-camr I watch found an app that actually shows the user exactly what baby sees at certain ages. So the app basically shows the world in the eye of our babies. I don't remember the name of the app but I'm sure if you google it you'll find it.😬
My in laws got a simple play mate with just the dangle toys and he loved it now we go on 4 years sis is here is 4 months and loves it as well she doesn't roll yet but is scutting only on back

My lo didn't take to the Bumbo seat. She was born with a bad neck torsion so she still finds some forms of sitting uncomfortable. She enjoys standing more so she has been loving an exercsaucer instead.

babies can't really see a lot of colors when they are newborns or even a bit older they see in high contrast whites and blacks which is why it is super stimulating to them
Bentley was 6 months on the 26th of October and he loves the crinkle paper, teething rings you put in the fridge or freezer, his jolly jumper. I have a fisher price sit me up frog seat I use to feet him in. We use the love to dream swaddle, when really tired as soon as his hands are in it his eyes roll back and his asleep in a few minutes. He doesn’t roll yet but I will be lost when he does because he loves his arms up like that and they say don’t use those swaddles once baby can roll.
Did the the fisher price frog seat work ? I am planning on buying one for my daughter.
Babies love black and white because that are the colours they can see clearly. Everything else is just a blur. Black and white are verdy defined colours. Thats why babies like them, because they can see these colours very well. :)

Hey Natalie! I’ve watched your videos since the boys were born and absolutely love watching! I just wanted to give you a heads up about the Bumbo and baby led weaning. I did BLW with my now 14 month old and loved it. I took a class on the topic before we started, and the instructor was adamant that a Bumbo should not be used for BLW. She said that it doesn’t provide proper alignment for chewing and swallowing. Now, I haven’t been able to find any professional recommendations on the topic (probably because there’s not a lot of “official” recommendations about BLW in the first place) but the info made sense to me. When first starting out, the safest place is said to be a high chair with foot support.
I hope it’s ok that I share; I just wanted to let you know because I had no idea that the Bumbo wasn’t ideal, and I definitely had planned to use it before I got that info. Thanks again for sharing your sweet videos! ❤️
Jen C thanks for the heads up! We only use the bumbo when feeding her purées. (We’re doing a hybrid of BLW and purées with Hailey.) I don’t think even makes sense from a messiness standpoint but totally makes sense from a swallowing- mechanics safety standpoint as well!
Natalie Bennett oh yes, the mess is a little tough. But my daughter eats *everything* now. Some of her more “exotic” favs are spicy curries (some that even make my eyes water), sushi, brussel sprouts, and sardines. Things a lot of adults won’t even touch, haha. My husband and I are adventurous eaters though, so we’re really proud of her. Hailey will do great!

Both my kids love that piano too! And yes, my husband and I still randomly sing the songs from it! Funny how different babies are, I found the Bumbo to be totally useless--both my babies hated it!

I'm going to have to disagree with the playmat. My baby absolutely loves hers and later it converts into a ballpit which I'm pretty sure she will love aswell.

I think the reason your little girl is enjoying the play and white book is because newborns only see in black and white. So essentially really that book is grabbing your daughters attention because she sees those colors already. We think that dressing our babies nurseries in bright colors is great to mesmerize them and grab there attention but really it does the opposite. Those colors look muted and grey in the eyes of newborns. Until they start to grow and develop more that is when they start to see more colors in the world. I believe a TH-camr I watch found an app that actually shows the user exactly what baby sees at certain ages. So the app basically shows the world in the eye of our babies. I don't remember the name of the app but I'm sure if you google it you'll find it.😬
My twinboys also love Sophie! Another toy they really enjoy is " captain calamari " by Lamaze.
My in laws got a simple play mate with just the dangle toys and he loved it now we go on 4 years sis is here is 4 months and loves it as well she doesn't roll yet but is scutting only on back

Yes. Some of them have been recalled. I checked the number on mine and I have one of the ones that are safe. The ones I linked are also not the recalled batch.
