I was in shock the first time I saw the stages in this game on the Japanese version. Reminiscing on my childhood playing the U.S version; I felt completely ripped off
My dad still likes Contra no matter what.

Why kill off P2 when recount is a thing? How is this optimized? I call malarkey.
Because sometimes it’s faster to unload the 2p sprite with a death to lower lag, to manipulate the sprite limit or to prevent it playing slow animations. It can save a quite a few frames over a run.

The whole game is an interpretation of the feelings Player 1 and Player 2 has for each other and the fights they have to go through to find peace. Duh.
