He is an American born. He is not Indian, he is American. Nothing to be proud, you should feel sorry because India can't not turn in to developed nation though it has vast national resources and area. Most most the people in India don't have proper sanitation and corruption is well spread in India. Which is a a big problem.

Abhijit was born and educated in Kolkata (previously Calcutta) until his under graduate degree from Calcutta University and he then went to JNU at Delhi to do his masters degree before heading to Harvard. India has produced nine Nobel laureates and in many areas is at par with developed nations and even surpassed them. If you google you will find India's achievement while grappling with some problems arising out of that huge population but nevertheless people enjoying world's largest democratic government.

Education in science is necessary if we want to be a developed nation . No Indian university is in top 100 in QS ranking of world universities. Few handful of Indian institutions such as IISc, TIFR produce quality research. Education in science and business is very important.
