At 19:25 I think that’s caused by the way the game runs the water simulation. This is just based on my observations while playing this game but I think whenever moving water encounters a wall, it gets reflected back. And if the walls are close enough, they amplify and create an even bigger wave which essentially becomes occasional surges. Pretty annoying that it always floods the riverbanks whenever a drought finishes and water rushes back in towards your dams.
I learned the hard way. You are fat better off doing as little as possible with the water. My next play through im going to use two different water sources one for power and one for farming. Trying to control the water just causes floods and chaos
@@joewaun894that's one way to do it, however, I'm way too stubborn for my own good, so I terraformed the entire river to experiment on ways to control the water from flowing backwards (that's what causes the tides). This happens when you restrict a large volume of water, and then drop it on a shallow river that's damed, the water goes at high speed to the dam, and if the dam doesn't allows immediate flow, part of it will slam with the wall and flow backwards. If you switch dams with floodgates and lower it when the draughts end, the flow will continue forward, then you slowly rise the gates and the surges will be minimal, the second way is to deepen the river, and the last third way is to create a super deep buffer zone on the back of the river so that surging tide has a place to "fall" to. The tide is usually half a block tall, so a 2 or 3 block deep river will never flood because of that.
@@joewaun894ah, I think I wasn't clear enough with the third one, by buffer I mean to dig a hole in the side of your river and block the access with a levee or a floodgates, that way when the water surges to your settlement it'd try to go to the lowest point, that being your ditch, bonus points if you use it as a pool for showers or something 😂
The badwater discharge is actually useful for keeping the badwater running all the time, as it can be used for energy production. I think it works like that only in this faction (the other one has wind power for droughts).
You could just dynamite some channels into the mountaintops and install floodgates to divert the badwater away from your settlement - so the icky stuff flows on the other side of the mountain.
@@MartyMcCI'm sure he knows how to play fairly optimally by this point but that doesnt exactly make a good video where everything is easy and handled quickly and efficiently.
Okay so on that damn that's after the spinning wheels your Power Wheels, instead of putting dams put floodgates, so during wet seasons you can just drop a floodgates all the way and you'll have a full water movement right And when it's the drought you just raise the floodgate to hold water
12:46 Technically LogPumper69 is still working his wood, planting it deep somewhere nice and wet, spreadin his seeds, mans got grooves All about that mindset
If you put dams at the edge of the map, at the end of your river, you can retain more water during droughts. The downstream area can then be used for farming too.
I've also found it rather easy to contain badtides on most maps. Just create a reservoir near the Source and dynamite a way out of it to the edge, with sharp drop down. Main floodgate on one end, emergency floodgate towards map edge. Most of the time emerg gate is raised fully, when badtide comes, you even have a little time for being distracted before you drop it down. Sadly doesn't work on maps like the craters, where water comes out of the bottom.
