  • We replaced the water pump and thermostat when we replaced the timing belt on my Toyota Camry 5SFE engine (1992-2001 Toyota Camry). We show you where to position the jiggle valve on the thermostat in the thermostat housing.

@@frugaldiy1 Thank you. I struggled all day, but I'm not even halfway done. Every step had stoppages. Alternator connector shattered. Couldn't figure out how to loosen the pivot bolt on the power steering pump so as to loosen the belt. Finally got it, but it took forever. Couldn't figure out WHY the passenger side motor mount wouldn't come out, and after about an hour of struggle and prayer, realized there is a NUT on the bottom. Doh!
Took out all the bolts for the upper timing cover, but the thing still won't come out. Gonna try again tomorrow.
I have a Toyota, a Lexus, and a Honda (all from the 90s). The HONDA is so much easier to work on, than either of the other two. Days like today, make me feel like the engineers purposely were out to get me. haha
      Cheers!

Thanks. This is a great video. Very easy to follow. Great camera work. Really appreciated the torque settings & also the Toyota way to do this job.

In one part of the video I see the valve cover is off a bottom pulley, do you have to remove those too ?

Thanks for video. Just got through replacing my thermostat. Noticed got a slow drip drip at water bypass pipe where it joins thermostat housing. Another job for me I guess. Might as well replace timing belt also. Do you have a video showing how to remove the timing belt etc?

Hi Robb. I have not yet edited or published the video for the timing belt replacement. But, I do have videos on my channel related to the removal and replacement of various parts related to changing the timing belt.

@@frugaldiy1 Thanks. After further investigation appears my water pump OK. What I require is replacement of the O ring and metal gasket that attach at the end of the pipes that go into the thermostat housing. You cover this also in your video. Parts ordered, approx $16.

It sounds like you have a good handle on the issue and how to repair it. I'm rooting for you and hope all goes well, Robb!
