My first run ever I was an overweight and inactive 23-year-old. I lost a 2-mile race to an 81-year-old. I was looking at his back the entire time, hit the gas at the last 400 and I could not catch the man, he walked away from me. Inspired me for the rest of my life. Now at 37, I'm running a 20min 5k at 95kg.
My mum is the same age as Richard, she’s in good shape for her age walks everywhere, line-dancing, palates and a bit of badminton. It’s never dawned on me to see if she would like a crack at Parkrun, I’m definitely going to mention it to her.
That was me (Cheryl) who said “Love the videos”, and I loved this one too! Well done, Richard! Fantastic achievement! I was surprised to see you down in Dover, Harry, as I’m Hampshire based and have spotted you at races around here but that morning I was going to Belgium and just had to get my parkrun fix in first!
What a legend Richard is! Thank you for highlighting his awesome running. It's been a delight to run with him on several occasions over the last year. Also hooray for Judy's PB on the same day!
Well done Richard and Harry. I’m 70, runner for 4 years, and my best 5k is just sub 42 minutes. My goal is to break 40 minutes. I live in Houston so I’ll have to wait for next winter with a temperature under 45 degF. Any higher and I sweat too much and slow down. I love running and getting in the groove. Feels great when that happens.
Harry, this was so fantastic. I started crying when you passed Richard’s family for the first time and I thought I was a goner until that kid fell (complete with sound effects) I laughed so hard! You have such an aptitude for great storytelling. What an achievement for Richard, I’m glad you captured it, and that he was able to share the moment with you and his family (and then with us!).
Awesome video Harry. My wife and I love watching your videos and we always think it's a shame you don't post more regularly as you are putting out such great stories and messages (although we also appreciate the time it takes). What you must do for people's fitness and mental health, it would be cool if the NHS partnered with you and recommended your videos as a starting point for people's first steps towards being healthy, both physically and mentally. Again, great work mate.
What an inspiration Richard is! At 72 myself this is what I need to keep putting in the training as it can be a bit daunting watching all the other videos on TH-cam that show the whizzy youngsters. Great video, thanks!
Once again a very emotional video, The Jog on family proves us once again that no matter the age, there is always a goal we can attain with the help of friends, and find joy in running. Congratulations to Richard. Thanks again Harry.
Now, that was inspiring! 🎉🎉 Golly, I was just pleased to run 3.19 km in my neighbourhood the other day. Took me 30 minutes! 😂😂 but, I didn't stop, and I haven't run/jogged for a while. I'm a frumpy 53-year-old mum with flab to shift!😂
Harry; you mentioned that this video was coming and what an inspiration it is! I have on Sunday 21 Apr '24 a 5km "volkslauf" and after 4 months of training @ 80 to 90km a month, am hoping for a good time ,commensurate with my 73 years.
@@thisisjogon After a drive through freshly fallen snow to get there, clocked a respectable 27:06 for the 5K in Gießen. Armed with the advice to start slowly, where I was overtaken left right and centre, got my own back after km 2 passing one after another until I reached an older looking bloke in front. ca. 300m before the finish, managed to sprint past him and one other . Turned out that he was my only competitor in the M70 group so I won! Overall position 42. pleased with that . Thanks for the inspiration.
Congratulations, Richard!! 🎉 You are an inspiration to us all! Thank you, Harry, for all you do for the running community. I live in the U.S.A. and can feel your energy all the way over here!
I love that you support everyone of all ages and all levels. Some running channels can feel like they’re only showing runs that are out of my reach, but ones like this show me anything is possible ❤
Ha ha - I have just started running at 68 and did my first 5K since my twenties yesterday, taking 34 mins 30 seconds, which would apparently be slower than 98% of male runners, though slower than 77% of runners my age; well, we have to start somewhere! Good on Richard! - hope I can do it at 82 if I reach that age!
Only just seen this video, but just want to see what an absolute inspiration Richard is, what an incredible positive mindset he has. And massive thankyou to Harry for bringing this video.
Just watched this vlog. Loved it and subscribed to your channel. I will be 70 next birthday and have been running since age 31 so i understand setting new goals as we age. How may i get an orange Jog On shirt?
Hello - all the JOG ON kit (including the top) is available on the website: www.thisisjogon.com/shop Thank you for watching and taking an interest in my videos, it means a lot Harry
In my area there’s a seventy something year old lady (I can’t remember her name I think it’s Eva) and she runs 30 minute parkruns, which is extremely close to the world record, she once got 99% on the age graded 😱
Everything we're taught about aging is garbage. We all have to be reminded there are SO. MANY people in their 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and yes, 100s, doing things like this all over the world.

Thank you 🧡
If I could choose between breaking a record now or running at 8 minutes per kilometer when I'm 82 years old, I would choose the latter.
Damn good point

Wow!!! 20 min 5k weighing 95kg is impressive!!!

Fabulous!
I thought I was doing well when I began jogging at 64, but that was inspirational. Thank you Harry, once again.
Thank you Dave, wishing you all the best
I recently re-completed 2c5k after surgery. I'm 44. I can't run that fast. Richard is inspirational.

Amazing
Will there be Team Edwin shirt merch coming soon? x
If there was, we’d probably sell more than the JOG ON top itself
#TeamEdwin
Other people: I hope I can run at 80.
Me: I hope I live to 80

He's been running longer than me.
We often mention them but it can take a keen eyed follower of the JOG ON social channels to spot the briefest of mentions
