I agree the fact that the e brake won't come off unless you use the gas as well as the clutch is a good learning feature as it does stop you from just using the clutch to move off which so many learners do which is too slow. But could you not use the auto hold feature (button just below the e-brake toggle)? it holds the car if you press the brake fully when the car is stationary. The only issue i can find with these e-brakes is sometimes especially if you're going down a hill if you give more gas it will suddenly jolt you forward as the e-brake is released Edit: just got to the end of the video where you explained about the auto hold. I do like the fact that you explained how to use the e-brake without the auto hold and would definitely recommend learning how to do this as it is more like using an actual handbrake which you may have to do at some point and also the auto hold can fail sometimes, it has done in my mk7 golf
I have the Kia Niro hybrid, with adaptations. Auto hold vs EPB...Auto hold keeps the rear brake lights (which I didn't realise initially) on whereas EPB doesn't. Personally I'll allow use of the Auto hold function but suggest using the EPB once another car or two have stopped behind us to switch off the brake lights.
Tbh I only use the electronic handbrake in my car if i am waiting a long time at a red traffic light. It saves keeping the foot on the brake pedal for a long time and putting friction on it. It also gets the foot on the accelerator pedal ready for when the lights do change. I guess it all comes under planning ahead!
My instructor had this type of handbrake so when I passed last month I’d never used a manual handbrake so my dad had to completely teach me when to use it how to use it and how to do hill starts with it!
I hate them electonic parking brakes. I find them so small I end up taking my eyes off the road to locate it. So glad when my instructor got a new car with a proper hand brake 😂
I know of two people that hadn't a clue how to do a hill start in an older car with a 'proper' hand brake because the car they'd learned in had had some kind of auto hold.
This is why I think instructors with these types of electronic handbrakes should only teach learners to at least push the button down on a hill start so that it is close enough to pushing down a manual handbrake. It would then become another part of the process.
I got caught out the other day by a Renault van I'm currently driving. I didn't come of the clutch enough on a steep hill and rolled backwards. I can't remember the last time I did that with a "normal" handbrake
At 5:10, the car behind you should have waited for the car in front to pass, right? The car behind you didn't have the right of way as you were parked on their side. Then again, it's hard to tell the distance between cars on video.
@@EmilysDadd I hope you're not saying you use both feet for the two pedals. You should really be using only the right foot for both pedals in an automatic since you never need* or should press both at the same time. What you don't want to do is panic and press both at the same time when you're trying to urgently stop * unless you are racing on a track and you know what you're doing
@@Addlibs My point was really that a car only needs 2 pedals .... ie auto over manual any day. BUT ... for the past 30 yrs I've left foot braked in my autos & have never pressed both pedals in an emergency stop! 😉
Sometimes your pupils don't know how to use your car,as they have never been in it,so it's no fair to fail them.i wouldn't have a clue with the modern cars
British obsession with hand brakes at every. single. stop. is driving me crazy. Just press the brake pedal. Way faster than fiddling with some phallus or flippy switch next to you
I know, right! I learnt to drive 25 years ago (and relearning now), and back then it was handbrake handbrake handbrake handbrake, but I think these days they teach it a bit less. You made me chuckle with the "phallus or flippy switch".
When you think about it in many cases a hand brake shouldnt be overused it will weqt and tear fast and one day when your footbreak doesnt work your handbrake might not be so efficient .
My instructors car also has an button handbrake and i cba to push it everytime im at a stop. Much easier to use the brake and jump to the biting point to move off to avoid rollback
leccy parking brake ..... the answer to a question that was never asked. Nothing could have been more simple than an old fashioned handbrake ... EPBs cause more problems than they solved
Well well well, where's my congrats at Pin‼️😂 About damn time I passed. Funny thing is I drove worse than last time due to not driving manual for a year or so and whipping about in an electric instead.. (kids, I don't recommemd switching between the two before ur test, regen braking throws u off like nothing else lmao) And of course on the first test I failed for something you shouldn't be able to fail for.. Guess in the comments! *To be continued*
I have the opposite problem, my instructors car has an automatic handbrake so when I try drive with my partner I just panic over the manual one. It’s impossible to roll back in my instructors car, I set the gas then lift clutch and it just goes. I find myself relying on the automatic handbrake on hills so my clutch control on hills isn’t great, which makes me panic in my partners car since I struggle enough with my partners clutch since it’s so high compared to my instructors. 31 hours into driving on all sorts of roads with my instructor but panic driving around quiet roads with my partner out of fear of rolling back🥲
I passed my driving test 1st time yesterday, all thanks to your videos and the Ultimate Driving Course! 🥳🥳
electric breaks are nice and all but nothing beats the satisfaction of pulling off with a manual handbrake smoothly on a steep hill 😂😂😂😂
Passed my drivif test today thank you for these great videos
Congratulations mate! Enjoy that license and please keep safe! Best wishes 😊
Lucky. 😢

Auto hold maintains break pressure - it's not a case of it activating if you press it down hard :)

Hill starts with a manual handbraks are very easy
@@Sir.T they are now I know how to do them 😂
Hi do you not use auto hold? Makes it soo much easier then using the electronic break every time stopping at traffic lights
agree 100%
Better yet, just hold the brake pedal and be in neutral. No wear no fear no fiddling with knobs and sticks

What car does he have what the model
Hope she passed her theory now.☺️💕
Episode twenty four of this series including the putting in petrol video.
Why dont you turn on auto hold?

Where hand break on press button
Nothing beats a Manual car, i would never go Automatic lol.
It does if you commute a lot in a busy city
It would have to be a very special car for me to get a car with 3 pedals again .... 2 feet ... 2 pedals lol

Love electric handbrake no more pulling up damn handbrake
Phoebe is a good driver, but it does feel weird she got confused where to stop behind the cycle box with how many hours she's done
