Hi, Karen. You are just finding your sewing voice. I can’t quilt in spring and summer. I can’t soap in late summer. Nothing is wrong. You are just mastering your craft. That’s why your makes are sew exquisite!❤
Anmaree, that's really interesting and helpful to know we all have this down period at specific times for different reasons. Thanks for sharing. You are appreciated 🙂
You’re not getting rid of me that easy maam😂😂😂 hate that you are on pause with sewing but I want to introduce you to one of the most amazing Sewist of TH-cam world…her name is Karon Eutor❤ she is one of my top five Sewist. I love her gift so much I psycho watch her videos so when she is not posting I just do a rewatch🤣❤️🤣. She has an eye for details..I mean this girl can spot a tiny piece of thread🤣🤣 and with that level of custom sewing, she needs time to think through what she presents. I heard her mention that she prefers certain seasons over another and I respect that but if I ever get a chance to meet her.. I would say “your favorite season is happening somewhere” so SEW❣️ 😂 I will wait with great excitement to see what she comes out with after the sew pause… it’s going to be ah-mazing❤❤
Maxine, you never cease to amaze me with your feedback. You are hilarious and always bring some sunshine into any situation. You are so appreciated as you support my work, and even during sewing failures and flaws, you still encourage. It's nice to have folks who support and encourage others as it's helps to grow, unearth, and develop whatever little exists😀 I was laughing so loudly at the little thread comment and knew it is definitely my issue. I own it🤣🤣🤣
Oh goodness, Marie. I am happy you are here sharing my sewing journey. I am so excited for your return to sewing. That's a long break, but I am sure you are happy to be back making lovely pieces.
Karon, you are not alone, I also shared I am having issues getting my “sewjo” back, I saw on Carmen Salome’s channel she’s implementing a 30 min daily sew, I may not do it everyday but I started just going into my sewing room and planning, I know each one of us is different I just wanted you to know you’re not alone, when you’re ready it’ll happen….you are an amazing sewist and all your makes are beautiful! I always look forward to see what you have made, have a great week!
Charisse, yes, it seems we all have this experience. I am happy you have found a way yo adapt during the downtime. Love Carmen's suggestion, but I can't start and not finish, so I will have to find another way. Thanks for watching, and I truly appreciate your time🙂
Karon, I enjoy listening to you talk about your sewing plans and fabric loves! Those two blue and yellow prints...wow! I can just hear them singing! When you pick up your sewing again, your makes are going to be gorgeous, as always!❤
I agree... I heard the melodic tunes of the fabric too😀 I am hoping to sew a shirt to begin the sewing flow. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts.
Karon, you are not alone! I just got my sewjo back. I didn’t feel like sewing for about 3 months. I wanted to but for some reason couldn’t. I like watching all of the TH-cam channels that I enjoy including yours and that helped me get started back to sewing. The month of January I’ve sewed 5 knitted outfits. Four dresses and a top and skirt knit set. I love sewing with knit fabrics. They are usually quick sews. You’ll get back to sewing and enjoying it! Always enjoy your videos 🪡👗🧵🥰
Hello Sharon, I know how that feels, and I am happy that you have resumed sewing. You git alot done in January. I appreciate you watching and sharing your thoughts. Happy sewing 😀
All beautiful fabrics! Looking forward to what you will make with them. I hear you on being torn between investing in good fabrics and trying to keep the budget under control! I would alternate sewing up these new fabrics with using fabrics from the stash? That way you can stretch it out until the next big order, and maybe if you see the stash garments as wearable to toiles for the "good" fabric, the end result will be even better? Especially for the coat, I would do at least a quick muslin to check the fit and length so you can alter the pattern before cutting and get both the blazer and coat out of that blue wool. The red wool looks so amazing, it really would make a nice heirloom blazer, so I personally would use the trim on the inside (like your grey coat) to make it more versatile. Love how you are trying to use the patterns on hand rather than jumping in a buying the latest. Best of luck and keep sharing!
Thank you for the suggestion on using the trim on the inside, similar to the grey coat. I love the idea and will keep that in mind. A muslin is definitely a must for these pieces. Yes, the red wool is my favorite, and this haul is going to require many muslin trials prior to cutting the fabric. Thank you so much for watching and sharing your feedback. I appreciate it.
Hey Karon, I love your pattern selections and sewing plans❤ Be patient with yourself🙏🏾😊 I hope your "sewjo" returns very soon because you do great work🙏🏾❤️💃🏾
Hi Karon, you amaze me every time. It’s okay to have down time. But to get motivated have you considered making something from your scraps? Perhaps a collection of cosmetic bags or sunglasses cases. Be kind to yourself, all of us go through no sew seasons.
I will learn to adjust. I usually sew nothing during this period, so I am doing better. I felt it was necessary to tell you guys what was going on just to be transparent. I respect time taken to watch my videos, and I take nothing for granted. Well, this time, I purchased a bit too much and got overboard a bit. No purchase for a long time until I get it together 😀 Thanks for watching.
I totally understand about your sewjo. You shared some of the most beautiful wool fabrics, thatI have ever seen. My hopes are that you get motivated and excited soon. It's wonderful to watch your channel, just top see your thoughts about sewing new garments. Definitely on the quality over quantity, it never disappoints.
Hello Deborah, I appreciate your kind thoughts and your time taken to watch. I like other sewers' love fabric and like the idea of quality classic pieces. I hope to get some sunshine soon as that does make a difference. I appreciate you!!
I’m glad I’m not the only one who salivates over fabric online!😋🤭😂. I’ve never heard of Prime Fabrics before. If I were making something special and had the time to fit a muslin I’d splurge on some of those gorgeous fabrics! Stylemaker is usually my go to for quality fabrics. You have selected some lovely pieces for sure. Sometimes we just have to wait out the loss of our sewjo. It’s been so gloomy here in the Midwest, I feel like some much needed sun 🌞 will get me inspired! My next project is the Frankie Polo by Love Notions in a butter scuba.
Donna, you are right. We have had terrible weather in the Midwest and need some sunshine. Hopefully, you are getting some today. Yes, I do purchase from Stylemaker Fabrics as well. Let's see how I do with this batch of fabric 😀 Thanks for watching and stay warm.
My sewing desire drops during winter too. I made some pajamas using the closet core Fran pattern. Fairly easy for me, but an interesting make. For me, it’s not allowing myself to get overwhelmed with plans when the light is short so I only plan a couple of makes, and may take a 2 day sewing class. Very much enjoying your videos!
Hello Ruth. I guess most of us experience a slower sewing period during the winter months. I have tried to do a little and go with my mood as I don't want to get overwhelmed and lose the quality of my sewing. Thank you so much for sharing, and I appreciate your time!
I love the fabrics you will be using. I told you that I’m struggling right now also. I plan on doing some sewing on my quilts this week. I hope you can sew soon. I look forward to your next video, whether you sew or not. Hang in there Karen 🩷
Hi Lori, yes, you did. Hopefully, you will be able to get some work done on your quilt. This weather, I believe, is not helping to improve things. I appreciate your time watching and sharing your feedback. 😀 Thank you!!
Loved your video! Question - the yellow jacket/blazer hanging behind you - what pattern did you use for it? Looking for a pattern with that fit! Thanks in advance!
I suggest or recommend Metro Textiles based in NYC but online fabric store. They have woolens and always have discounts like right now at 50% off. I like quality fabrics as you do but I cannot afford SM AND P fabrics. Living in GA I don't need woolen fabrics just for coats. Lol. Do peruse Metro though, because their fabric is excellent quality without breaking the bank.
Awesome news... I appreciate the recommendation. Who doesn't like a discount or good price on fabric. I will check out Metro Textiles, but I believe I have enough wool for now. Thank you so much. Yes, Georgia weather doesn't need wool. You have mild winters.
I love all of your fabric choices and the pattern pairings. I also love the new Vogue release and am waiting on the Simplicity sale to purchase Vogue 2000. Thank you for sharing and I know everything you touch will be beautiful.
Karon how do you think people that sew for a living get it done when they loose the effort to sew. I have wondered that for years. I love your plans and your choices. You have an eye for quality. Thanks for sharing. I think your sewing plateau is just part of the creative process many people deal with in many fields.
Karon, that is a great question. I am curious how they function, but like many in various professions, when experiencing burnout, you take vacation or keep going but not giving your best. I can't waste fabric, and sewing is no longer enjoyable if I sew when I'm not inspired. I will take it in strides and try to enjoy the downtime. Thank you so much for watching and understanding the challenges.
Karon, I used to sew for others. It was a profession and a gift I was able to lean on during challenging times. The creations weren't always earth shattering, but the enthusiasm of my clients was worth it in the end. For most of my clients money wasn't a concern so they purchased the best quality fabrics. Having quality fabrics to work with kept the joy in my craft. I did take several breaks throughout the years when I felt myself getting close to burnout. Unfortunately, those were times my sew-jo completely disappeared. After a three year hiatus, I have returned to sewing only for myself. Karon, take it easy on yourself. Your work is admirable Eva Monroe (she talks about the name of the supplier on her YT channel of the same name) talks about a company located in France that offers quality fabrics. Maybe check them out. I will not be purchasing any fabric this year as I have amassed a wonderful collection of fabric through the years and it's time to work with it. Perhaps, visiting a fabric district should be in your future plans. BTW-the name of the high collar on your jacket is called a "storm collar".
I go through this in the summer. I think a project like making a co-ord set gets me going because I use patterns I already know and it feels more accessible. I think Unsewcial sewed up that same Viki Sews blouse from your intro. If the money you’ve spent on your high quality fabric has you apprehensive to sew, try making a toile for the coat first.
Yes, it can be a bit rough during this time. I will be making a linen shirt this weekend to help me through. I did watch Unsewcial's review. Thank you!!
Hi, I have never tried quilts but think they are creative and time-consuming. I will think about it as an option. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me!!
I have lost my sew- jo somewhat. I have a top that I just need to set in the sleeves and it’s done , but I just can’t get it done. I am trying to use fabric from my stash because I have so much. I think that’s why I’m can’t get my act together. I get so excited to sew when I have new fabric. I can’t wait to see all your new makes. Happy sewing😊
I am guilty of that, too. I should be using what I have instead of getting more, but I have a fabric problem 😀 Thanks for watching, and I hope your sewing momentum returns soon.
Hi Karon! I am listening!😊 I can't seem to find my sewing vibe also. I always have to size up, grade up, and it's frustrating. Mainly because I don't think I know what I'm doing. 😅😢😅
Yes, Zelda. It's that time when I seem to not know what I am doing 😀 I am giving it a break now as I feast my eyes on beautiful fabric. Not that I need fabric, but it is fun.
You are an excellent seamstress. I love your ideas for patterns and fabrics. I've also lost my sewing vibe for this winter. I sincerely need to get my vibe soon..... to many projects on my table just sitting to be sewn. 😊
Daisy, you are so kind. I am sure you do beautiful work as well. I am hoping your sewing vibe will return soon because that table needs a break from the fabric😀
It is completely normal in my opinion that we loose our sewing vibe for whatever reason. Like you I find inspiration in colour. I love the blouse you are wearing in your video could you please tell me which one it is? Have a great week. ❤️😊🇨🇦
You Sew Beautifully! Sometimes the "sewjo" takes a back seat for a while. In the meantime. look for outfits that compliment your figure and colors that do the same. You're going to be Alright!😍😍
Yes, the downtime is best to rest, recover, and rediscover garments and ideas that may suit my body. Thank you so much for watching and sharing your thoughts. I appreciate it.
Hi Catherine... great suggestion on the pockets. I have some and will practice. Yes, I, too, learned from a subscriber who shared her knowledge about wool sateen.
We all lose our sewjo from time to time. I watch videos like yours to inspire me. If it’s really bad I just start a tried and true pattern and that gets me going. The fabrics you have chosen are gorgeous! BTW, I bought two pair of the sneakers you recommended and I love them! They are so comfy! I live on Long Island NY and when I go to the city next time I will be wearing them! Thank you!
Hello Susan, I appreciate your support, and I am truly humbled by the thought that I provide inspiration. Yes, those fabrics are beautiful. Awesome to hear you bought the shoes and are happy with your purchase!!! I will be using mine while on vacation later this year.
I think you are being to critical on yourself, your sewing skills are amazing. I would bet there isn't anything you can't make, as sewest we see every little mistake and I doubt anyone else would even see it.

You're in Nebraska 🥶. I am in Ohio. You do sew that well! All of what I have seen is beautiful. ❤
Zelda, yes, cold Nebraska. Ohio is also cold😀
Very kind, thank you so much🙂

You know that knit wrap DVF pattern will definitely go on sale!! Love all your sewing plans :)
I'm anxiously waiting for it. Thank you for watching 😀
For the summer the yellow and blue silk for the top will go great with your yellow blazer and white pants.
Good catch, Debbie! I didn't notice until you pointed it out. Another winning addition to the collection 😀
Thank you for watching and sharing.

Dear Karon,in winter we got less energy. The blue wool fabric with the fabric from your stash get along very well and l long to see what you'll create.
Yes, you are correct, Catherine. I need some sunshine.
I agree, they blend really well😀
Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts.
That red wool, oh my. I look forward to your make.
Yes, that red one takes the cake. I will do several muslins before I touch it.

Have you thought about adding simple quilts to your fall plan? It’s a nice change and may help with you sewjo. It can be addicting though…
Hi, I have never tried quilts but think they are creative and time-consuming. I will think about it as an option. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me!!

Gorgeous fabrics and goods parings. The red one is the top, it has to be so soft and warm.
I think so too! I am excited to actually see and touch it.

Hello Diane, yes we do experience burnout at times. My top was made using Vogue 9299. Happy sewing and thank you for watching!
Stay warm.
I think that coat collar is called a funnel neck collar
I appreciate that information. Learn something new every day. Thank you
You Sew Beautifully! Sometimes the "sewjo" takes a back seat for a while. In the meantime. look for outfits that compliment your figure and colors that do the same. You're going to be Alright!😍😍
Yes, the downtime is best to rest, recover, and rediscover garments and ideas that may suit my body.

Never heard of wool sateen. Will look for it.
Get a piece of wool same weight to play with the pockets.
I think you sew beautiful clothes
Very kind of you, Diane. Thank you!!
I think you are being to critical on yourself, your sewing skills are amazing. I would bet there isn't anything you can't make, as sewest we see every little mistake and I doubt anyone else would even see it.
Veronica, I believe you are correct. I am trying to focus on the achievements this year while improving the things I can.
Less time being critical of myself can only improve the outcome.
Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts 🙂
Okay Karen. I had never heard of prime fabrics before. So now of course I hold YOU fully responsible for all of the consequent debt I and your other subscribers incur from their site. Prime fabric is too gorgeous to resist despite their prices :-( . YOU alone are responsible. 🙂
Hilarious... we are in this deep together 😁😁😁
Don't do too much shopping, please.
NEBRASKAAAAAAAAAA?? What are you doing out there? 😅😂
😁
