- G.I. Joe Classified Series is going strong, but it looks like Marvel Legends is on the verge of a major comeback with one of its best rollout of figures in years. Already, the Hasbro brand has revealed or released enough figures to comprise a very strong Top 10 of the year.
I break down what's helped lead to the change and what the rest of the year holds in store for the ML brand.

Marvel Legends is absolutely making a comeback! If they keep releasing this kind of quality and giving us things that we actually want, they'll be back on top. They still have a LONG way to go before they catch up with Classified though. They have to keep up this kind of release consistency with 1) CHARACTERS WE WANT 2) with QUALITY sculpts, paint, bucks. If they fall back on corner cutting and doing the same characters over and over again, they'll be right back in the hole they're trying to climb out of. We need characters who need representation. Count Nefaria, classic She-Hulk, Retro Iron Man with the big boots, and Whiplash needed figures! We got Retro Iron Man before, but let's face it, he was TOO SMALL compared to other Iron Man figures, and needed a re-do badly! Count Nefaria looks tremendous! Whiplash looks awesome! Now we need to see some more classic heroes and villains who haven't been represented (or represented properly)! I mean, we need a re-do on Constrictor and Klaw. Both of the previous versions aren't at all classic looking, and just aren't good. We need the UFOES! Stingray! A new Tigershark! Attuma! An actual GOOD Namor figure. The remaining Inhumans! Original Crimson Dynamo & Vanguard from the Soviet Super Soldiers/Winter Guard! Original short-hair Rogue with white streak in the middle, in her original villain outfit! Ms Marvel.Warbird in the black, lightning bolt costume with the hip boots! I'd love a better original Dazzler too! Something closer to the comic book version with a better buck! We need blonde Valkyrie with the black costume, metal boob plates, bare legs & sandals! The classic Defenders version! That version is WAY overdue! Where's Jack O' Hearts?? We need a new Madam Masque! I'd love a Swarm figure! We need a better Madam Hydra too! Their last effort disappointed a l lot of fans! Yellowjack needs to happen soon too! It's ridiculous that he hasn't been done in recent years! He's becoming the new Antman in terms of figures in need of a re-do! At least they finally got around and gave us a decent Antman. Took them long enough, but the last one was nice!
They have really made a ton of headway over the last 12 months. And with their approach lately, it sounds like we could be in for getting more of your list knocked out.

I will defend the Namor figures. I am pretty happy with most of them, but his side characters are badly missed for sure.
You can defend them, but I'm not a fan of any of them. I want BETTER ones. The head sculpts have all been rather off-model to the classic Marvel Namor, as far as I'm concerned. You're right about Namor's support characters needing figures though. Hulk's side characters too. Doc Samson, General Ross, Betty Ross, Rick Jones--a lot of them deserve figures.@@jwolf8371

We need a New Red Guardian. Civil War was a WHILE ago. They need to do better completing teams in a timely fashion. 5-7 years to build a team is no good.

I’m cautiously optimistic. The most positive sign I’m seeing out of 2024 so far is consistency. I’ve said before that I’m happier with consistent base hits than occasional home runs and frequent strikeouts, and I’m seeing lots of base hits so far in 2024.
The releases have been very consistently strong so far this year. I'm pleased with what they've put out for 90% of this year's releases.
I definitely believe that 2024 is gonna be a HUGE year for Marvel Legends.. I've already picked up the Sabretooth/ Logan & Patch/Joe Fixit 2 Packs as well as the Deluxe Angel.. Jack O Lantern .. Tombstone & X Men 97 Cyclops..& i have Cable.. Wolfsbane.. She Hulk..Count Nefaria & SHIELD 3 Pack on pre order so far..& they haven't even BEGUN to reveal the Secret Wars 40th Anniversary figures yet...& I almost forgot that Man Thing & the Wrecking Crew were rumored by Rectangular as well 👑
Oh, I can't wait to see what we get from the Secret Wars line. Hopefully it's better classic versions of the Wrecking Crew.
They did say in the last stream that they were kind of expecting the Captain America movie to come out, which is why there's so much Cap/Falcon/Shield/Hydra stuff to sort of tie into whatever the movie wave would be. I'm not a super retro collector, but as a huge She-Hulk fan, I'm excited to get that Buscema/late 80's Avengers look for her! If you really want that particular Avengers team, I think the A-Force set She-Hulk is much closer to that costume. I'm also looking forward to the eventual F4 repaint that we'll probably get next year alongside the movie.
Secret Wars stuff was one of the things that was coming out of the leaks, and if that means we finally get a Beyonder figure (maybe re-using classic Luke Cage parts?) I'll be incredibly happy.
Yeah, the Cap delay definitely helped out a ton on that front.
I was always tempted by that A-Force She-Hulk, but she had that old articulation that was a pain to pose.
We're talking the first Secret Wars though, right? Not Secret Wars II.

Super happy with my Angel figure. Tombstone is a work or art. Wish he had been given the ball joint waist that Luke got, but he looks amazing. Nefaria looks crazy good. And I love the cape over the collar on Whiplash! Excited for a lot of these sculpts!
Glad to hear you're enjoying Angel! I was curious about Tombstone's articulation. They did such a great job executing Whiplash's look.
I've been noticing a marked improvement ever since the Mindless One wave. Since then, we've gotten window packaging, an increase in accessories (like for Shield 3 pack, Lady Bullseye), we've gotten more new tooling (Power Princess, Chry-Starr, She Hulk, Iron Man model 20), and fair pricing (Drax and Moondragon for $55: 25 + 30 for a deluxe sized BAF).
I feel like a year a two ago, they would've gouged us on those prices, we wouldn't have gotten as many accessories, and it would've been another repaint on Vulcan or Sunfire. And because of all of this, I've been buying more Legends this year than I did for the last 2 years combined, and we're only in Q1 so far. I've noticed they're putting in more effort to make a product that is more appealing, and it's been enough to hook me back in again.
Good call. That and the Beyond Earth's Mightiest subset seemed like a nice turning point for the line. Nice to see more folks are feeling good about the line again.

I feel like the last couple years hearing about figures going on deep clearance and massive overstock was really a blessing. It was a wake up call for them and it showed they can’t just produce sub par figures and expect everyone to gobble it all up.
I wonder. Whatever the cause we're definitely benefitting from this shift in quality!
Third and final reply! lol! Where I'm at with Marvel Legends as of today: I think they are doing their BEST figures rollouts since 2018's Marvel 80th Anniversary stuff! They're killing it, offering things that I actually want to buy! Sure, they just have to cater to the '90s kids, I know that, but older fans like me who read '70s & '80s books are getting treated as well, and it's about time! I even like the X-MEN '97 figures, and the Wolverines--but if we don't get a nice, pinless brown and tan Wolverine figure soon, I'm going to flip-out, Hasbro! lol! You can't celebrate a year of Wolverine without one 'cuz that version is the definitive Wolverine look for generations of fans!
I'd love some classic Hydra Agents too with their older '60s/'70s uniforms. The skin-tight green bucks are just way too generic looking. To cheesy-looking We need the kind of uniforms that Toybiz did for their Hydra figures! Those outfits looked great!
My kingdom for a classic Adam Warlock & a Pip, the Troll! New Mutants ever gonna get made? So many characters lack representation because Hasbro spent years and years giving us the same characters. It's time to finish off teams, and fill out the rosters, Legends! It's time to re-do those who really need do-overs, but more importantly, it's time to give us characters we haven't gotten before!
New listener here you do hit up some good topics about marvel legends, 2024 seem to be killing it on the first quarter. Man to many preorders to keep up with. I’m a fan of the mutants and for them to hit up core characters and not just focus on popular ones is amazing. MCU seem to die down a little it’s good to see comic figures get some loving

All good points Jeff. I agree that the recent downturn of MCU properties is helping to get Hasbro to refocus on comic book figures. Not mad at that at all. I AM a little worried what will happen once Deadpool/Wolverine, FF and the new X-Men movies drop. Those properties might re-invigorate the market and cause Comic Book figures to take a back seat again. But for the moment, I'm definitely happy with what they have been revealing.
Even just this little break is allowing them to knock out some very important and major characters that could be pushed back a year or two just because of an influx of movies. Hopefully the FF movie will allow us to get some overdue FF villains.

Thanks for your efforts on this video Jeffrey. I am a very disillusioned Marvel action figure fan. The reason for this state is due to the inconsistency in ML's quality. From my perspective the high watermark for ML was Galactus. Since then, there have been too much ML product I have passed because of quality. Unwanted characters (or variants of), little paint on the buck, lesser quality plastic that either prevents articulation or simply breaks, character selections, and increased prices have contributed to this disillusion. I used to love this line, yet they've demonstrated over the last couple of years that Hasbro ML is resting on their laurels while their competitors (Mafex, Diamond Select, Revoltech etc) have improved.
Regarding the IM wave - I agree that She-Hulk, Nefaria, Whiplash, and the Golden Avenger needed representation, however neither She-Hulk nor Nefaria are characters related to IM. ML had an opportunity to present an IM retro wave. Replace Jen and Nefaria with Firebrand, Mandarin, Brothers Grimm, or even the Melter and now there is an IM wave. Why can't ML figure this out in 2024?
Nefarious is Madame Masques father. It's not close enough for an Iron Man line, but he does have some connection. Wish Firebrand with all new fire effects, Melter with effects, Living Laser with effects, and classic Ghost and chase clear/white variant were included

Nefaria has been a constant Iron Man enemy by proxy of the Avengers. He's been a part of the rosters basically every time they tangle with Nefaria. Also, She-Hulk has a cartoon connection with Iron Man so that link is fine with me. I do still want to see The Melter!
I think Marvel Legends is definitely making a strong comeback. They have been picking up steam since last year. Picked up several this year.
They have been on a nice roll so far this year!
IF we ever get classic Graviton, original costume Wonderman, Mantis and Swordsman, I'll be very satisfied with my Avengers line-up.

I WAS pretty much getting out of ML but they've been pulling me back. The new Scarlet Spider, Jack O Lantern and Angel are waking my inner fanboy up again. And at the same time, my interest in GI Joe Classified is fading. They've covered almost everyone I want so I can see an end on the horizon. A few more Joes (I rarely buy Cobras) and I'll be pretty much done.
I admire that your Joe wishlist is almost done. I can think of an easy 40 that I still want before I have to start reflecting on if I missed anyone.
As marvel is my favorite fandom ever . I’ve collected legends for a long time and after having just about every brand in 1/12 scale in hand . Legends gets number 1 in my book . it’s my favorite to pose , obscure characters , army building , overall price , easy to buy online nowadays .( since everyone is into other lines now . Thank god 🙏🤣 (sick of scalpers )
But this my favorite and I’m a die hard marvel fan . Every line has its ups and downs

I love the iron man retro cards but I feel like now with the awesome card backs, I’m gonna have to buy doubles. One to open and one on card lol

Of all the suspected/possible retro lines to come out of ML, for me Iron Man and Ghost Rider are the most anticipated and wanted.
On a quick side note: Found a McFarlane Wonder Woman but have to trek it out to MD to get her 😢😂

I've been looking at the pics of Count Nefaria on the Pulse website and I realized that it looks as if the yellow cord for his cape is a separate piece. It looks unconnected. If that's so, then I predict a real problem with quality control. If his cape attaches ONLY with one of the standard tiny pegs, it's going to be constantly popping off. The pegs tend to be too shirt and also attached at a weird angle (like on Vision) and they just don't hold in place. I'm hoping I'm wrong, but knowing Marvel's infamy for poor quality control, I'm betting this is going to be an issue. It also looks like the cape is going to hamper articulation in his right arm significantly.
I hope that won't be the case!
@@LylesFigureFiles Same here, though I strongly suspect it will, given how it looks. I'm thinking about a work-around now, so if it turns out to be an issue I can share a work-around with other fans. I wonder - there are people selling cloth replacement capes for various ML characters. Maybe they can make one for Count Nefaria. Hmmm.
X men 97 is 🔥🔥🔥🔥.its been confirmed there doing 3 seasons so far so hopefully we will get a lot my figures from that line

Marvel did do a good job but they really need to cut down on the constant reissues of the same figures over and over ex: the Wolverine anniversary wave we didn’t need all these varies iterations of Wolverine, they could have done Bloodstream and Roughhouse, Elsie and Albert, Sabertooth and that chick whose suppose to keep him under control,a Shiva
I hear you, but I guess they just didn't think they had enough confidence those figures would sell on their own -- at least those not named Sabretooth. Plus, this was a cheap and easy way to celebrate Wolverine's anniversary.

I think that the Ghost Rider Haslab was a definite wake up call, but as we have seen with Namorita and the Psylocke/Wolverine and others, they are still not releasing the definitive version right off the bat, they are still holding things back. Sometimes they might of course, and it's probable that some of these were already in the pipeline before the Haslab and they had to go with it. But I'm still not giving them a pass quite yet, as I think the Hasbro financial problems is going to end up limiting their ability to produce C List characters and they might start taking a page from McFarlane and just produce the money makers only. (Mind you, I'm ecstatic for Nefaria, Whiplash being released, and I hope this means that they are seriously considering Dragon Man and DreadKnight...and maybe even a proper Laser)
I think they've been able to get more comic book figures out thanks to no movies. I don't mind the two-pack logic. They probably wanted that Wolverine back in rotation and Psylocke Mandarin made the most sense for it. At least they put the work into that sculpt and didn't just do some lousy repaint cause it was easy.
@@LylesFigureFiles Agree about the Psylocke being a high quality figure. They did put the effort, but it's still not the figure the fanboys are clamoring for. And it does match up with the Wolverine so that works. I was just being pedantic about them putting the definitive version out.
Mind you, I like collecting, so I'm fine with them just putting out good versions as long as they imply they'll get to the definitive eventually. (My problem with McFarlane was that they never implied that they would get to the definitive version as they kept putting out artsy farty bs versions of the characters, with legends, you at least feel like they will put out the proper version, but they still are not doing it on first release)
Count neferia should have a body builder buck, not a skinny one. He became jacked when he got his superpowers. He looked more like Thor than Vulcan.
I guess they could have used the Hercules mold since it's cleaner than Thor.
Hasbro is off to a good start this year. Lots of good classic comic book character instead of all that ugly derivative MCU stuff. Count Nefaria, Ikaris, She-Hulk, Angel, original gold Iron Man if we discount his first appearance in TOS #39 when it was ugly gray), Whiplash, Ka-zar, Zabu, Nick Fury and Dum Dum Duggan, Lilandra...I hope it keeps up! Personally, I despise the MCU movies (the earliest ones were ok) so I hope they don't make many movies this year - that way we'll get more comic book classic waves. And as usual, Jeffrey, gotta sign out with - "I want more villains!" LOL!

Absolutely not. When you compare them to GI joe classified, valaverse action force, or Jada toys street fighter, hasbro legends still gives you less for more money.
You still get less in terms of articulation, paint, and accessories compared to the brands I just mentioned. There is more reuse with legends, there are more QC issues, and the price is still always higher. They care more about quantity of releases instead of the quality.
They don’t have to be the best line to be a good line. In terms of legends being an industry leading line, that’s never coming back.
I know we all love Jada's SF line, but I don't know if it's fair to bring them into this since they've done, what 4 total SF figures so far this year? They take a measured quality over quantity approach, which is working for them, but one wave of MLs this year eclipses their SF output so far.
@@LylesFigureFiles yea exactly. Jada cares more about quality and hasbro cares more about quantity. If quantity is what’s most important to you, then sure legends maybe the best line of the year. Hell they’d be the best line very year if that’s how you measure it.
They are still offering an inferior action figure in every single category objectively than every other line I mentioned.
If you want to measure the “best action figure line” objectively maybe just do a simple margin calculation. Out of the 4 figures that Jada released, how many do we consider to be amazing releases? Let’s say they’re 4/4, I think we can all agree on that. 100% of their releases this year have been objectively good. How many of hasbro’s 20+ legends released are we considering objectively good releases? The answer will vary from person to person, but if I’m being generous, I’d say maybe 50%. How many legends have you bought this year? How many are worth buying?
Well Hasbro needs to finish these teams they started years ago, like Thunderbolts and X-Force.
I'm hoping Wolfsbane means Feral will be arriving soon. The Thunderbolts still have a lot of work to get completed.

Hang on! He appeared in this form in Avengers #164 in 1977 so only 47 years ago. You're trying to make me feel old! LOL! Yeah, it'll be 60 years ago as of December 1964 when he first appeared in Avengers #13 (just 4 months before I was born) . God, time flies. Oh hell, I guess I am old. Old-ish?

If they can leave the goofball MCU figures alone because the Shang-Chi wave only sold for the BAF,and the Eternals are clogging up Ollie's. The comics and cartoons move,but these latest movies don't push product.
Disney makes them do the movie figs. It's not up to them.
The movie figures do fine if the movie is good. The No Way Home figures sold well. It's just this Multiverse phase has not got many collectors or fans excited at all.

1. Stay consistent
2. Give us figures we been demanding
3. Extra accessories
4. More Army builder figures
5. Continue with haslabs
6. No more single jointed figures.

Hate to be "that guy", but there is a major deco error on Angel. The white of his chest just stops at his breastplate, but it should continue up the front of his neck to the base of his jaw.

I personally don't think any of the lines are the best per say . But ML are better than mcfarlanes at least . Mcfarlane doesn't even make enough figures to meet demand . 🙄 He acts like action figures are base ball cards

@LylesFigureFiles yeah well, meanwhile the MCU was trying to finish their story, but there were a lot of supporters crying about how things were going with the last phase. Apparently, the MCU figs needed to be put on hiatus, and the final boss stepped in to help make that happen.

I can't give Hasbro Marvel Legends too much credit yet. Things like pinned joints need to be laid to rest. Also stop packaging figures that are desired with figures they know are undesirable. Let them stand on their own and see which one is still hanging around for end of year clearance. Many collectors dont want to buy Wolverine to get a proper Sabretooth or Lilandra. Stop delaying production of characters fans have been vocal about (screaming for) like Green and Yellow Banshee, Daken, Mephisto, Mandarin, Young Bucky Barnes, Feral,Vengeance Rider Series., War Bird, Harry Osbourne, and Destiny. Also stop setting release date for $600 - $1000 worth of product to drop all on the same day and within 2 week of the other brands. Reduced the quantity and focus on quality to increase collectibilty. Stop moving release date by more than a month so collectors can better plan and budget preorders. Im also all for Marvel Legends avoiding Walmart and Target all together.
Warbird and Destiny are rumored to be coming this year. I'm with you on the budget hits with everything coming at once, but that's more of a Hasbro thing than a Marvel Legends specific issue.
@LylesFigureFiles I agree it's Hasbro calling the shots on releases, but it seems Marvel Legends is the IP, which is most aggretious and released the most figures annually.
I fully acknowledge the criticisms the line receives and I actually agree with quite a few (but not all) of them. But even with those faults, I still think the line is genuinely great and I genuinely believe that Marvel Legends is arguably the most overhated action figure line. At the very least, there's no line that can compete with Marvel Legends in terms of building and fleshing out the universe of the IP it represents. There's no other line out there that regular gives us C-listers and even D-listers. And as a hardcore comic book nerd, I really appreciate that.
Oh yeah. The line has earned some of the criticisms, but I definitely think they've turned a corner with the 2024 releases. I want far more than I did even by June of last year. They're fleshing out teams and working in some needed villains as well as providing necessary updates to some figures.
every single iron man the showed this past week comes with virtually zero paint. I agree the sculpts are nice, but they look completely unfinished without paint. The first appearance iron man looks like a block of cheese.
For the IM figures what kind of paintwork do you want to see on them? This Mafex Iron Man (on my affiliate Amazon -- amzn.to/4akzyJk) has a similar paint allotment as the ML version. Same thing with the Marvel Select Silver Centurion: amzn.to/4cUSQqH
@@LylesFigureFiles I’m saying that the iron men should come with a coat of gold paint. Like the 80th iron man for examples all the gold areas of the figure came with gold paint, not just molded gold plastic. The recent ultrons that came out are a good example. I think it was the Ursa Major ultron that came fully painted head to toe with silver metallic paint. Compare that to the recent ant man wave ultron. That one came with no paint at all and it looks terrible because of it.
Nope there is not one fig i want in that last wave of iron man and i just canceled my sabretooth and logan 2pk because im not paying that for the one fig i want .Especially since they will probably double dip sabretooth and release him again in a single pack . Not much to love in marvel legends for me these days .

@LylesFigureFiles No, but I visit them for work regularly, so it helps sometimes. It's scary how quickly they sell some things, and how slow they are to restock. Leaving money on the table at its finest.

Now that they gave us Ikaris from the Eternals, we need to get a Karkas BAF! He'd be perfect for a BAF, and if they did him like Kirby did him, he'd look amazing! Would love a Thena too! The SHIELD flying car would be a fantastic vehicle release. Yeah, Legends doesn't do much in the way of vehicles, but if they can do a VAMP for Classified, they can do a SHIELD car for Legends at a similar price point. I'd love a Fantasticar, but that's maybe better suited for a HASLAB, but I'd dig it. We still need a truly classic Ben Grimm figure with the right brow, and without the modern teeth look. "Classic" needs to BE classic. All of nothing on that. Don't need a "classic" Thor with a modern hammer, and a "classic" Thing with modern looking rock shapes and teeth. And Hasbro...John Byrne's version of the Thing isn't "classic" Ben. It's vintage, but not "classic"
Hasbro will be better situated when they no longer make toys for licensed IP. Having control of the products you make, not having products that are associated to the success or failure of movie franchises will be key to making Hasbro more successful. But most of the success of figure sells is due to loyal fandom. Transformers movies haven’t been the best but fans sell out transformers, ghost buster toys all the time. So it’s probably more likely that the fans of marvel legends and black series are no longer interested in the products made. What would be interesting is if Hasbro could get the invincible toy license and get rid of marvel legends and black series. Let Mcfarlane get the marvel legends license everybody loves the figure technology he uses, the art on the boxes and the prices ranging from 20-45$ that might be the way for marvel legends to go.
Marvel Legends figures are still selling out/selling very well. She-Hulk is a best seller on Amazon right now.

I think they may have it! Transformers and Star Wars Definitely won’t. But… G.I. Joe is still holding steady this year in my opinion! But yeah, Marvel Legends are COOKING THIS YEAR! 🧑🍳 🍳
