    I have a baseball hall of fame graded rookie collection and last month I wanted to buy the 1965 catfish hunter rookie card in a 6. A Psa 6 was listed for 120 dollars. And as a Psa collector I prefer that. But I found a bvg for 60 dollars. Bvg is Beckett slabs for anything under 1980.
    As someone who just collects I bought the 60 dollar cheaper option. Beckett and Psa have the same grading standard so to me a 6 is a 6. And In just collecting I think it’s important to get the best value

    I don't understand why, by now, SGC doesn't have more of a resale value. They should. The grade tough. They have been around a long time. Their quality cases. All good stuff. Fine, don't be neck and neck with PSA (which I wouldn't mind), but they should be right there, just a hair below, a lot closer than they are. On a side note, I have a $30 PSA 90-120 day order that is at 60 days and about to ship back. They seem to be getting much quicker. I believe they opened their Jersey office to grade now, so that should help as well.

    Glad people are making videos about this. Turnaround times and actual, honest grades are why I send most cards to SGC. Sending to PSA is literal gambling. 90% of the time I can predict my SGC grades, whereas PSA I might get a 10, or I may get a 7, for absolutely no reason. One factor to consider for many high end cards is that psa conducts pop control. A card will get a 9 or 8 at psa while it can earn the 10 or 9 it deserves at sgc. As sgc grades each card objectively in isolation without self-interest. This will affect selling price differences as well.

    Cool video, but realistically you won't sell 10 orders of SGC that fast. SGC grades faster than any company, but the time it takes to sell them should also take account. When I sell PSA, I don't have to really do anything. People come to my table, want the card, and then it's sold. When it comes to SGC (only speaking about modern), I feel like a car salesman where I have to explain why it's a good slab. I still get multiple people every show asking if SGC is a new company. I still grade a few cards with SGC, but very limited. I submitted 300 cards to psa where they took 18 months to grade, but I sold them all. I have SGC slabs from the time I sent to PSA and i still have them.

    Could also do the same thing timing wise with PSA - you would have a lag between first order arrival and sale, but if you submit more orders before you receive the first one back - you make the exponential profit from PSA vs SGC and can do the same amount of volume as you are stating from SGC once the first order comes back. You are getting roughly 2.5x your profit using PSA, which is certainly worth it. If you have to money to flip through psa and be consistently sending orders while you wait - once they start coming in it will be a much more profitable business model. I do like this video though, thought provoking for sure. Thanks!

    • @richardbianco9674
      @richardbianco9674 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      your initial upfront costs would be way more if you aren't waiting for cards to come back to recoup that money first. So yes possibly in the long run, you could make exponentially more. The big flaw in that theory is the cards themselves and many examples of this exact thing happening. Card gets sent off when psa 10s are selling for lets say 1000, 4 months later that same PSA 10 is now selling for 400. So the gamble waiting has cost you money, not made you money.

    • @G23sports
      @G23sports 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@richardbianco9674 Yea for sure there are other risks involved when waiting that long! It's not a perfect equation and the market could always change (up or down) for particular cards. If we keep the sample size large enough though, sending to psa continuously and having submissions constantly coming back would pay off way more in the long run with those average margins. You do need more money/inventory upfront - but once you start making the first sales for that extra exponential value and have more graded cards coming in shortly after, you catch up to the SGC model pretty quickly and eventually leave it far behind.

    • @richardbianco9674
      @richardbianco9674 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@G23sports 2 years ago I would of wholeheartedly agreed. Not anymore. Sgc has gotten steadily closer and closer in price to psa. With 10s from both bgs and sgc matching or passing psa 10s. The card market now knows psa 10s fall somewhere between the other 2's 9.5 and 10 grades. Where the card itself also influences more. We've all seen psa 10s that wouldn't of gotten 8 or 9 anywhere else. Sure they've tightened the grading up in the last few years but even then I've seen some terrible looking 10s. And those do have price reflect that.

    • @G23sports
      @G23sports 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@richardbianco9674 then why the very drastic profit difference in this example? The vast majority of psa 10s outsell the competition. That’s just how it is unfortunately. I actually agree that the other grading companies are better and have more consistent and accurate grades. However the market is still clearly paying the large premium for psa slabs. I send my PC Cards to sgc and anything I’m selling goes to psa for that exact reason. I’ve even been very profitable buying sgc and csg - cracking out if not a 10 and sending in, or sgc or csg 10 - send into psa and for crossover service and get a psa 10 and make hundreds more than what I paid. I’ve cracked sgc 9.5 and sent to psa, got 10s - and over doubled my money. I did with with a lot of Zion and Lamelo to be specific.

    If you are grading to sell, you need a PSA 10 (good luck with that) and also get the card(s) back in quicker time to get it out on the market for sale. Once you get 9 or less, it's toss up with any other grader as far as pricing. But, the thing is PSA doesn't offer quick turn times for an affordable price, so why bother. Get your card back quicker and make a little less and turn cash constantly. Get off the PSA teet once and for all

    SGC has made major leaps in the grading world. They are above bgs in my opinion they could fix there label on the slab a little and they could make major gains towards psa if they keep there pace up.

    I like getting my Pokémon cards graded, if you're looking for more value as a reseller then PSA is the way to go but they are considerably more expensive, if you're looking just to get your cards graded at a cheap price than SGC is the way to go especially if you're shipping through bulk and with the new Pokémon special offer of $15 per card compared to PSA's $25 per card.
    So if you ask me which is better, I would probably say personally SGC but then again that’s just my opinion, if you ask me, which is better for you then I would say it’s up to you and you decide who you want to go with

    just an fyi, you forgot to include that you have to pay another 100 yearly to get that $30 per card with psa. surely this doesn't matter much if you submit enough cards but something to consider. Interesting video otherwise as I have been trying to decide who to send some of my cards to. I think psa might be better for high end and sgc is better if you plan on selling the cards pretty quickly. I have some off center cards that look really good otherwise and want to grade them regardless, but I have a feeling I might get a worse grade with sgc knowing that they can be a little tough on grades with cards that are off centered or have print errors.... Might end up going with sgc just for the quicker turnaround and to have some cards slabbed without waiting around to get them back!

    Funny fact, an sgc 10 will ALWAYS crossover to psa while a psa 10 WON'T the other way 🤷‍♂️ its simply a matter of time before sgc takes over, value wise. The collectors have been watching this trend for the last couple years. Also the biggest factor in all this is the way psa grades. They are the most inconsistent and have a real problem catering to their "top tier" clients and making the rest of us play pop control. Why would real collectors roll the dice with psa when we know sgc will be impartial and fair (mostly anyway) if I really need something in a psa slab it will be done through crossover moving forward.

    SGC is the vintage grader... I don't care for them with modern cards. PSA maximizes your profits as long as you can hit a 10. PSA hands out 10s like candy. BGS was at one time the gold standard... but their management is lazy and thinks their name will just carry them forever. They are falling behind and there's an argument to be made that they are the #3 grader now behind PSA, then SGC. If they aren't careful... they might find themselves #4 behind CSG.
