Gilda was one of a kind, her different characters on SNL were hilarious. I know what Gene was saying when Gilda would take out her anger on Gene, what she told him is exactly what I saw so many times and explained to friends and family members of my patients. I am a retired oncology nurse, the patients were so vulnerable, filled with fear and anger and of course all the physical side effects, the pain and nausea, they did not want to take that out on their caregivers, but a spouse, adult child, dear friend they could let it out knowing that person loved them and would always be there for them. How happy I am to have been able to enjoy all the laughs Gilda brought to the world, and how sad she passed too soon.
I relate to Gene a lot when it comes to losing a spouse after battling illness for years and only being together a relatively (and unfairly) short amount of time. Watching the documentary that came out this year was really beautiful; it brought me to tears at multiple points. Though I don't think you have to go through losing a spouse for that to be the case. He was a wonderful person.
I think Gene was a product of his generation and knows how to compartmentalize. But what this is is honest, raw and real. Relationships are so complicated. This was one.

You made my childhood so happy and full of laughter young Frankenstein blazing Wonka to name the top ones your artwork was wonderful you crafted a character will the audience in mind , I think, and I always loved to tell people about you two and how much someone can be in love not just love Thank you Mr.Wilder and Mrs Ratner for making me smile in happy and sad moments you guys could always bring a smile not just to my face but my heart and mind laughed as well and that's rare you genuine presence is so refreshing unlike other great actors/comedians you always seemed to appreciate the other side of entertainment,,,,the rest of the world thanks for all you did
The fact is, he moved on. It's good that he got over the loss and found happiness with someone else. If you can do that when a loved one dies, that's a good thing. They wouldn't want you to live on in pain and sadness.
@@jedijones That's not how grief works, especially in the loss of a spouse. I just lost my 29yo wife last year at only 28 under strangely similar circumstances (we were together about six years, the last two of which she was very ill and in constant decline). You don't move on. You can move forward sure, but there is no moving on. That loss is always part of you and it will color every moment going forward. What you make of that is up to each person. I agree that he was able to find happiness with his second wife, and that is a wonderful thing (something I can only hope for someday), but to say that he got over the loss is just not how it works. You won't know until it happens to you, which I pray won't be for a very long time.

You're looking at it all wrong. Cancer doesn't drop from the sky. There is cause and effect in the Universe. I totally related to this..made me bawl. My Mom died of ovarian cancer 4 years after Gilda.
