Back to basics tutorial demonstrating how to make an Oxford style cushion cover complete with invisible zip. As usual there are many ways to make even this simple cushion and there are (usually) no right or wrong ways. In fact sometimes I might make Oxford cushions in a different way depending on the client's specification or the fabric type or pattern or even the availability or design of the fabric.
This method is just how I prefer to make them most of the time and because the zip needs to go on the back I like to use an invisible zip. Invisible zips can be tricky things to sew so hopefully this will give you a few pointers on how to insert them in a fuss free way. Again, there are other ways to do even this task; some people like to part sew the seam at each end leaving an opening for the zip. That's fine too, whichever way you find most comfortable.
As always, if you have any questions or queries please just ask.

You can divide the back piece at any point to create a seam for the zip. I personally choose to put mine near the edge but whatever you decide, add half an inch (1cm) to each of the short sides. In this case the pieces were 22" wide then the big piece was 20" long and the small piece 3" long.

Thank you so much! Such clear helpful instructions, not only this video but all of them. I’ve one question about making a pillowcase. Is there a sort of formula about what the hight of the cushion will become after putting the filling in?
Ps I’m very happy you mentioned cm!

Absolutely beautiful, I am learning so much from you. Thank you so much :)
Hard to believe this is a velvet fabric. What kind of mix is this?

Hi there, I'm very pleased you're enjoying the videos. Yes, it's a very fine, short pile so it's not immediately obvious that it's a velvet. There are lots of digitally printed knitted 100% polyester velvets on the market like this now. The detail of the printing is exceptional.

Hi Frank, I remember you asking before about a tutorial on the industrial machine and it is on my list but it's a long list I'm afraid so I can't say at the moment when I'll get round to it. I will try and do it soon. Jx
